Judging by what I’ve observed—and practiced—at Luckyboys and others places, the incremental red notes the guys collect in tips are becoming an ever increasing share of their overall income. They realize that they can easily cover their daily living expenses (food, transportation and time with friends after work) by sitting with a handful of customers and sharing small talk and some physical contact for short periods. It’s a win-win for all concerned. The customer gets a nice experience (and the opportunity to interview different guys), the bar gets the drink income and the boy gets tips—and a possible off on a return visit. No, it doesn’t provide same same financial punch that a ST offers but it does cover some costs. Waiters long ago figured this out and acquire a more consistent income along with the possibility of the occasional off. And for me at least it’s a lot more entertaining than scanning through the on-line offerings.4 points

Absolutely right. What the boy does with the money is nobody's business but his own. I can't think of any job where how much the payee should receive is based upon what the payer thinks he will do with the money. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I don't understand farang who spend a lot of money just on airfare alone going to Thailand, stay in nice hotels, enjoy good food in expensive restaurants, drink as if the world will end tomorrow, and then try to justify giving as little as they can get away with to the boys. And meanwhile the boys are the reason these same farang go to Thailand in the first place. If you don't want to pay these boys 1000 to 1500 baht, which is a hell of a lot less than you would pay anywhere else, for what they do for you, then stay home and masturbate to a porn site.4 points

What do boys do with their money?

Most of the guys I know send money home. It really doesn't require much of a mental effort to think about circumstances the guys come from. Young guys from Cambodia are the children (or in some cases grandchildren) of Khmer Rouge survivors. Imagine the circumstances in Cambodia when they were born 22-25 years ago and that their families live in even now. I know many are sending money home to build the first livable homes for their family and are sending their younger brothers and sisters to school. If you take some time out from the pleasure domes and get to know some of the Myanmar guys, you will find out much the same. Many guys are from villages where even now there is no electricity. Spend some time talking and you might find out that waiter serving you spent his time as a stateless Akha family, quite literally foraging for food in the forest. The same is all true Laos guys and the Vietnamese guys. I (and others here) know a Laos guy who came from a family with no land, so he actually bought a home for his family. A lot of Laos guys will remember when their villages first got electricity. I think all of us who the spend the time really hanging out with these guys, in non-sexual situations even (gasp!), respect them and their commitment to family. The idea that they're going to say "no, I'm not going to send my mom 2,000 baht this month because I'm going to invest in a mutual fund" is just nonsense. Setting aside money as savings is a luxury these guys and their families just don't have. Definitely they're young guys. They want nice shiny phones and some nice freshly-torn jeans. And there are some guys (a few) who even have motorbikes, etc. I certainly don't begrudge them that. I have a lot of sympathy for what they put up with, so let them have their joys. People who spend -- objectively speaking -- a lot of money to fly around the world to come to Thailand or Cambodia or wherever to PAY to have sex with young guys who otherwise wouldn't want to have sex with them really cannot claim some sort fiscal prudence superiority. Not everyone has extra cash to be generous with their money. But there's no excuse not to have generosity of spirit.3 points -

I think you are getting too far afield here! the place has been operating for 7 years no problems and is listed as a spa with massages. there is no signage on the outside of the building. prostitution is legal in brazil but no one but the prostitute can make money off it, so the spa’s cut(or sauna’s) they can say is for room rental/entrance fee which is what the saunas we are all familiar with do. the point of my post was to tell everyone about the spa and the guys working there not a in-depth review of how they operate/make their money etc! Just what we customers can expect when we go there!(every business in Brasil pay off the police, i know the saunas pay roughly $400.R/wk2 points -

That may have been the case years ago, but it hasn't been that way for a very long time. These days the boys are lucky to be offed at all. It's a little difficult to get offed if the bars are virtually devoid of customers or the customers that do come no longer spend as much money as they used to due to the strong baht. That's one of the reasons so many of them have turned to the apps in hopes of getting a few customers here and there. Times have changed in the bars, and for the boys the changes have not been good. Most of the boys are lucky if working in the bars brings them enough money to barely survive. I doubt there are any boys anymore who make 1500 x 25 = 37,500 a month. It just doesn't happen. Even in the "golden years" of the bars, it rarely happened to other than the few most popular boys.2 points -
Many are sending money home not only to their parents and grandparents but also to their own children. Many gogo boys do not tell customer about their own kids as they know some find it off-putting. It’s not unusual to have a child when he is 16-17 years old in Thailand. I learned recently even a twink has a kid back home.2 points

I too find the convenient cynicism of a minority of punters disheartening. I learned a lot from P when we met in 2003 and from his friends, too. Firstly, that the imperative- both religious and social- to send money to parents was overwhelming and that some guys would prefer to go hungry than fail in this responsibility. Secondly, that the guys looked after each other and so if one was going through a bad time in terms of "offs", his friends would take care of him. It may be that things have change on the scene now and I suspect that some of the more popular guys in the big Bangkok bars where Chinese clients are dominant are doing very well nowadays. However, in the period when I was a punter, the one way out of the industry and the achievement of relative comfort was to find a falang (or falangs) who' go the extra mile in terms of support.2 points -
Cambodia Warns of Coup
splinter1949 and one other reacted to reader for a topic
From Bloomberg News Southeast Asian Neighbors Detain Exiles Cambodia has sent troops to its border and called on neighboring countries to arrest exiled dissidents after accusing them of plotting a coup, just as the European Union prepares to decide on maintaining trade privileges that are keeping the Southeast Asian nation’s biggest industry afloat. Malaysian authorities on Thursday detained Mu Sochua, vice president of the banned opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, at Kuala Lumpur airport following a request from Prime Minister Hun Sen’s administration. The Cambodian leader, in power since 1985, has promised to “use weapons of all kinds” to stop a group led by top opposition figure Sam Rainsy from returning to Cambodia on Saturday, the country’s independence day. Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha ordered customs to deny Sam Rainsy’s entry due to the “rules” of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. On Thursday, he posted a picture of himself packing his bags as he prepared to board a plane from Paris to Bangkok. Both he and Mu Sochua have been in exile for four years. Cambodia has dispatched the military to “maintain peace and stability,” government spokesman Phay Siphan said, adding that the arrests would be “positive” if true. “The Cambodian government has informed all Asean nations that those people are organized crime,” he said. “They are leading a coup d’etat, so the Cambodian government informed all Asean members. And they all decided together to keep peace stability, so those people have become persona non-grata.” The detention comes shortly before Europe is expected to issue a decision on whether or not to pull Cambodia’s preferential tariff status due to its deteriorating rights situation, a move that could devastate its economy. The EU is Cambodia’s largest trading partner, accounting for 45% of all exports in 2018. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-11-07/southeast-asia-helps-hun-sen-round-up-dissidents-pressuring-eu2 points -
I was planning on doing just that, but then read two posts warning that all/most/too-many of the cocks in those shows are silicon/rubber fakes. I guess that's not so.....? Are these daily shows? Schedule-wise: in addition to the regular show, or after/before? Only in Moonlight and Dream? I guess by the time the lady was done sampling, she was short 1000 baht (-:1 point
-
If you looking for a big cock, you should go to big cock show at Luckyboys where 11 boys will display their goods and take off underwear too. At Moonlight, if you sit at front row seat, you can touch all of 10 big cocks as the guy would kneel down to invite customers for the feel. I have seen one Asian woman touching all of them last month.1 point

The muscular popular one did told me he can make onwards 120k baht a month on high season. This of course includes multiple long time and multiple day trips he went with customer that month. But yes this is probably top 1% of the boys there, in other word toward the end extreme. On the other hand, one very popular latin/europe rentmen told that he got 6 customer in one of his best day here, while charging usd250 an hour. So yeah, like any other work, the popular super hot ones in the prime time can definitely earn a fortune.1 point

I've said this before- maybe even on this very forum- but one of the abiding memories of my first time in Bangkok, was dropping my wallet in Blue Star (where Dreamboys used to be) and of a waiter running down the soi to return it to me. I've never had a baht stolen in over seventy visits. Of course, I take sensible precautions.1 point -
I tend to ignore them in friendliest possible way and certainly don't let them be involved in my decision making process, I prefer to call prospective guys myself. But I'm not their enemy and few times / BBB, Screwboys , Moonlight / I find them very helpful i.e. ' you boy not here today but if you want I call him at home to come bar" , one at BBB was instrumental in convincing boy he should not to be reluctant to go with me because I'm good guy. So keep mamasans at bay with help of 50-100 baht tip and firm statement ' I like girls better ", works for me1 point

In gogo bars they generally aren't wearing enough to conceal the loot and in host bars, as others have said, this isn't usually a problem. You are more likely to lose money through confusing red 100 and purple 500 baht notes in a dimly-lit bar, or even by forgetting you gave 1000 and receiving change for 500 - which is why waiters often make a point of telling you what you handed over, to avoid arguments later.1 point -

hot action with the boys INSIDE the bar?
Will7272 reacted to thaiophilus for a topic
No, nothing like that. The atmosphere in Nature Boy is a little less formal than the Twilight (now Patpong) style bars. There was a conversation (paraphrased) (I have already invited near-naked boy over from stage and bought him a drink) Me: you sa-moke me? Boy: Here? Me: Here. Boy: OK but you pay bar same same we go room. (All this was of course in the interest of trying everything once. So now when anyone says "have you no shame?" I can truthfully answer "no" )1 point -
to mamasan or not to mamasan
vinapu reacted to DivineMadman for a topic
Answer yes. Both are true. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Personally, I don't involve mamasans in any of my decisions, but I do make a point of trying to be nice to the mamasans (with the exception of a few at Lucky Boys who I just aggressively ignore). I would get a guy's attention and have him sit for a drink and then find out if he's right or not right for me. Waiters can also help get a guy's attention to sit with you, but I've usually found the guys very attentive and looking to me for a signal to come down. Repeat that process two or three times if necessary. Occasionally I suppose it's expensive because it might involve buying a few extra drinks and little thank-you-for-sitting-with-me tips, but I just don't ask a mamasan for a recommendation. Anyway, after a while at a bar I think you sort of know who you at least want to try to talk to without any input from anyone else. [Personally, and this is probably just me, I find it a bit off-putting and demeaning for all concerned when a mamasan scrambles around the bar to grab different guys to parade in front of a customer.] But to each his own, and I suppose if you are shy they can help. Mammasans try to insinuate themselves into the process because that's their job. No hard feelings any which way. Having said that, they can make the lives of the guys who work at the bar better (or worse). So, particularly if you want your guy to look good for his boss and maybe get a tad bit better treatment at a bar, it helps to cultivate a mammasan.1 point -

I can devide the boys working on the bar scene to 3 main groups : 1. Temporary job - the boy is doing this as a part time job has another regular job,or he's a student or between jobs till he finds proper job or finish his studies. 2. Poor background- the boy come from poor family without proper education or skills and choose to work in the sex industry hoping to make good money . 3. The lazy - The boy is very lazy can not work in regular hard working job and looking for the easy good life the option to make in a short time with a client the amount he can earn on 3 hard labour days on regular job is appealing to him.1 point -

One off a day would make him well off. I have known lads not having an off for 2 weeks ish. Four offs a week would be seen as very livable but hard to achieve for many. The men I know are similar to this: rent, maybe 3 men to a room at 5,600 a month total. Food, maybe 3200 a month. Taxis might be 3000 a month, as cheap rooms may be far from work. The non Thai lads need 2000 to do the visa run. Help for the family at home when they can. Police fines can be a problem eg. for overstay. Health costs for non Thai men. Smoking, tattoos and casino for some may be the 'wasteful' expenses but I can hardly talk with the money I spend on men.1 point -

Different kind of Bangkok Happy Ending
splinter1949 reacted to paulsf for a topic
A couple of weeks ago I needed to do a visa run. Decided to go to Hanoi for a few days. All packed ready to go. Grab a taxi in front of my condo. No traffic, quick and easy ride. Friendly driver. Arrive at airport, get to check in counter, and then realize, No Wallet. I lost it in taxi. I had no idea as to which company I used. As panic sets in, I sit to try to figure out what I'm going to do. Had $200 US , debit card, one credit card and drivers license. My passport, other credit cards and a little cash in my backpack. It was my 30th day and I need to go. Nothing I could do about wallet. Had a nice weekend in Hanoi. Saved a lot of money I might have spent. Could always do credit card advance. Back to Bangkok hoping I might get lucky and maybe left wallet in Condo. No luck. Cancel cards with banks. My bank got replacement debit card to me in 5 days with UPS, Last night about 5 pm, knock on my door. Condo worker says taxi here. I said, didn't order taxi. Language issues. He pulls out his wallet and says taxi. Hit me, taxi there with my wallet. Went downstairs and sure enough, there is the driver holding my wallet. Wow. Everything still there, including cash. I gave him big reward. Now he was all smiles. Nobody standing around spoke English, so couldn't get story. Today condo worker I know speaks English talked to security guy. Driver found my wallet when he got back to Bangkok. He did know where he picked me up and I was only going for a few days, yesterday he was in my neighborhood. My drivers license with picture was in wallet, so he asked security guy if he knew me. I'm the only non-Thai living in the building. Knock on door and got it back. Taxi drivers get a lot of bad press in Thailand, so it is really great to have a really good taxi driver story. He really went above and beyond and has my deepest Thanks.1 point
