I met up with a friend last night for some gallivanting around the city. As he is only in town for a few days and we have similar tastes, the bar choices were easy. We started at Screwboy and had a nice time. There were several cute guys there, not too many customers and no pressure at all to buy someone a drink. However, I did find a cute Cambodian I liked and had a drink with him. He was sweet and conversational. We then went over to Fresh Boys (I think that was the name. The 2nd Floor bar near Screwboys) and they had a plethora of cute guys. There were many that caught my attention and an old mamasan from Pattaya I knew so I had fun. We then went to Lucky Boys. There must have been 50 guys on stage and also some stunners. This place was popping with talent. My friend picked a few guys that he knew for drinks and I knew he was set for the night so I left. I would have had a guy that I wanted to meet for a drink for the mamasan from Screwboys told me to visit SuperA Boys and I did. I am glad I did. I had a great time. I had 5 guys over for a drink. The cost was 150 baht per drink so very reasonable. The boys were all 19 and obviously pretty new from their demeanor. They spoke no English and were from the local area. I enjoyed one especially. But, it was late so I tipped them all 500 baht as I enjoyed my time there and left. While waiting for my Grab, 4 of those boys jumped on motorbikes and left. I guess my tip was what they are looking for and they got it and moved on for the night. This told me that perhaps if I want to see one again, I'll go early and meet one before he disappears. There is no death to the gay scene in Bangkok. It has changed and it is different but it is still fun, enjoyable and everyone can find someone they like (if they like males).2 points

Forty years of travel- Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, even the USA (once)- and my moments of fear have been few. A gang of feral Israeli Border Police in Palestine (Silwan), a wrong turning in my car in West Kingston, Jamaica, during the JLP-PNP disturbances in 1973, an unwise encounter with a handsome Nubian felacca captain in Luxor, Egypt and with an interested policeman as I disembarked an hour later... ....that's all I can think of. And I regret none of those visits. I raise the issue of Brazil on a gay forum because of its poisonously homophobic government threatening our community specifically, though there are anti-racist issues there for me as well. I agree with z909 and Paulsf; there are risks when we travel and there are risks when we stay at home. More Britons are killed by accidents in the kitchen than on roads or on planes. Carpe diem. And as far as Thailand is concerned, seventy plus visits and my only moments of unease were encountering a pack of soi-dogs in Chiang Mai (and I'm a dog-lover) and a ride on a motor-cy taxi driven by a barely-pubescent kid who had yet to learn the meaning of fear. We are indeed fortunate to have discovered Thailand.2 points

I finally booked my flight to Brazil. I searched for my tickets using Google, Skyscanner, momondo, hopper, kayak, BT-travel store and Fare Boom which owns BT-Travel Store. But the best flight I could get was with United Airlines with one stop in Texas. It also allowed for 2 checked bags. Many of the other cheaper airlines didn't allow for checked bags and dependability is an issue. I am also sure UA will communicate in a language I can understand. The tickets ran $1,175.00 RT from Philadelphia. Once I get off work (Early) I will run to the airport to catch my 5pm flight. Today I think I have narrowed down my Airb&b stay in Rio. The local hustlers all suggested I stay in Ipanema near the beach. They told me the Copacabana area is nice but I would have more fun in Ipanema. The place I selected is close to the metro, the beach and not to far from Copacabana area. Once I get the place booked I will share it's information. It looks modern and comfortable for $50 USD a night. This weekend I spend to much time talking to guys on Grinder, Jacked, Planet Romeo and Hornet. I often had to use my translator to understand them but a few spoke english. I found that using my android phone to chat is best. The translator app works in all the chat apps and I am getting the hang of quickly replying in both english along with Portuguese translation. I got caught up in looking at the guys and found myself deep in the rabbit hole going from one hot and sexy guy to the next. Many of the hustlers are truly trying to seal the deal once the conversation starts. Oh, yes we are talking about hustlers. I have talked to the non-hustlers too but they seem to want to cling to me when I want to paint the town red and use up my box of condoms. The place seems to have an endless supply of hot and handsome hustlers. I was in Brazil August 14th to 26th, spending the first 2 days in Porto Alegre, the next 6 days in Rio and the final 3 days in Sao Paulo. There are 4 guys in Porto Alegre that I have known for a number of years that I usually see there and Mezziniu has been one of my favorite saunas since it’s opening in 2006. I met up with the soccer coach at the hotel, when we met 12 years ago he was a 19yr old working at Mezziniu but within a year got signed by a semipro team. He is one half of the famous cousins I previously have posted about. He spent the afternoon and then dropped me off at Mezziniu. It was slow on Friday with maybe 15 guys and 10 or so customers. But I met up with a blonde buff guy and a 22 yr old Venzuelan guy who is a friend of Victor who used to be the massuse at both Pointe and 117 in Rio previously. Victor gave a good recommendation and he was right! Saturday the soccer coach came over again and spent the afternoon. About 5:30 I went to Mezziniu and it was already very busy. Saturday nights are their big night! I met a hot 23year old and had a good time with him and then Victor came up to me and said he was getting off work at 9:00 and had a hot friend he knows I would like and could the three of us go to my apartment? I said sure, as I trust Victor's judgement, plus he really wanted to be fucked by this guy! at 9:30 they showed up and his friend was 23, lean, nice dick, great kisser, and we both fucked Victor! I went to bed about 1:00 am and had to be at the airport at 9:00 am for my flight to Rio! Sunday when i got to Rio I didn't go to the local saunas but went to one a hour away in Niteroi that is only gay one day a week! Met up with 2 sets of cousins there and had a great time. Monday I went to Lion's club and it was very busy. the place is huge and very nice! I met up with the 2 brothers from Niteroi and had a really lot of fun. Tuesday I went to 117 and they were packed like they are every Tuesday but 80% of the guys there were the same muscle guys I have seen there for the last 4 + years! I didn't do anyone, but talked to a lot of old friends. I then walked back to Lions Club which is a short 5 block walk from 117. John the former bartender from Manhatten rios was there and working as escort. I had been with john before at 3:00 am at a party last spring so I knew what to expect and it was as good as I remembered! Weds, my namorado was back in town so we lthe next 48 hours together and then on Friday I left for Sao Pauo! Friday night was packed at Lagoa! I was talking to Rudolfo, the owner who I had just been with at Lion's club the night before when I spotted a Vgl, 24 yr old black guy with the most handsome face I had seen in a long time! He appeared to be waiting for Rudolfo and I to finish our conversation to make his move and start talking. After a drink we decided to go to a room and he was amazing although he thought i was a bottom and i thought he was and it turned out we were both tops! He had a Big beautiful dick! He said “two tops can have fun”! He was right! later I went with another guy who was ok but i would not repeat. Then luckily i made the best decision of the whole trip! I decided i was really tired and instead of going to one of the clubs i went back to the house Alone!! The house has a front yard and gate and at 6:00 am I woke up to what i thought was someone calling out my name from outside! I went downstairs to the front door and looked out and there at the gate was my namorado from Rio! He decided to surprise me and got on the earlist flight! So we went back to bed until noon! Then we spent the next 3 days enjoying SP! Just 4 weeks before, we had been in Mexico for 2 weeks together, for the 3rd time in less then a year, and we were together 24/7 the whole time there and only had one argument! He may be the one, but i am going to take my time deciding! i am back in Brazil October 24th to November 4th1 point

Rio de Janeiro mayor tried to ban Avengers comic book over gay kiss

“The mayor of Rio de Janeiro ordered law enforcement agents to raid the city's International Book Fair and seize copies of a comic book that featured 2 men kissing. The festival's organizers took him to court and won.” Two Men Kiss in a Comic Book, and a Mayor Orders a Raid https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/07/world/americas/rio-gay-kiss-comic.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share By Manuela Andreoni Sept. 7, 2019 RIO DE JANEIRO — The team of law-enforcement agents deployed by the mayor to “defend the family” descended on the international event and scoured the grounds for their target: copies of a comic book featuring two young men kissing. “Books like this need to be packaged in black plastic and sealed,” the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Crivella, said in a video posted on Twitter. The agents, he said, were ordered to seize all copies of the comic book from the city’s International Book Fair because it had “sexual content for minors.” As it turned out, the police came up empty on Thursday in their two-hour search for kissing comic characters, though they did find “lots of books,” Col. Wolney Dias, who headed the raid, told the newspaper Folha de São Paulo. The raid also kicked up lots of backlash for the mayor — from festival organizers, publishing houses, comedians and, finally, the Brazilian courts. On Friday, a judge barred Mr. Crivella from further seizure efforts or any attempt to withdraw the festival’s permit, a ruling that was partly overturned on Saturday. The comic book in question, published in 2010 under the title “Avengers: The Children’s Crusade,” shows the superheroes Hulkling and Wiccan, who are boyfriends, kissing. The book, which had sold out by the time the agents arrived, tells the story of Wiccan’s efforts to control his reality-altering powers. Festival organizers tried a bit of reality altering themselves on Friday when they took the mayor to court, winning an injunction against efforts to bar the book. The judge cited the organizers’ constitutional right to free expression, but his ruling was partly reversed on Saturday when a second judge said that gay and lesbian content for children should not be publicly displayed. The brushback was more colorful outside court. The comedian Felipe Neto, one of Brazil’s most popular YouTube stars, said he would distribute thousands of books with gay and lesbian characters at the festival. The books, he said, would come with a red label saying they were “inappropriate for backward, retrograde and prejudiced people.” Then, on Saturday, the publishing house Faro set up a stand at the festival under the banner “Books That Are Forbidden by Crivella” and featuring a host of volumes on issues involving gay and lesbian people. The stand became a selfie magnet, the newspaper O Globo said. Mr. Crivella’s order also served to remind local newspapers and TV stations of other things the mayor could be doing, like fighting poverty. The local unemployment rate hit 15.3 percent in the first trimester of this year. “Crivella, This Is What’s ‘Inappropriate,’” read the headline in the newspaper Extra, atop a photo of a homeless woman and her children sitting on cardboard on a sidewalk. The mayor, who is also an evangelical preacher, was unbowed. In a video posted on Friday, Mr. Crivella said he was trying to protect families. “This can’t be induced, be it in schools, in a book, or wherever,” the mayor said, apparently referring to gay and lesbian issues. “We will always continue to defend the family.” But the mayor “forgets there are quite old Supreme Court decisions that say same-sex families also deserve protection,” said Rodrigo Azambuja of Rio’s public defenders’ office, which had joined with festival organizers in their court appeal. “Under Brazilian law,” he said, “all families are equal.1 point -

Definitely a bad idea. But there are any number of good reasons why someone might be interested in these things. Not pollution, not worries, knowledge! It might be an interest in the history of "our" community. It might be curiosity about changes of bar style or policy. It might be any number of things. And there's an old saying about those who don't study history...1 point -

You'll be glad to hear that according to my ( NHS employed and based on an NHS ward daily) BF they ARE now clamping down a lot on medical tourism and people turning up trying to get treated FOC. Apparently they DO check immigration status and entitlement now as a matter of course BEFORE any treatment is carried out. I think in cases of medical emergency the treatment is still carried out no matter what the persons status etc, but for things like child birth ( where mothers were flying in before hand and then turning up heavily pregnant to get both free treatment and perhaps more importantly VISA /Passport rights for their child THAT too seems to have been tightened up - about bloody time eh !1 point -

The rise in the number of Indian tourists in Pattaya has been interesting. For a number of years, there have been new venues aimed at the market but, during the last year os so, the rise has been significant. One thing I notice is that they are not family groups but groups of friends, usually (it appears to me) in their late twenties to thirties. . A few visible in the gay areas but not many. It looks as if these guys are leaving their wives and children at home to enjoy themselves! The Chinese tourists that I've seen in both Pattaya and Bali are group-travellers- often very large groups. This means that small changes in the market are quickly visible.1 point

I thought it was just me. I’m glad to read there’s another poster who has issues with the dim lighting at Sauna Thermas. I enjoyed my week at Thermas, and I’m making another one within the month. Howeve, those of us who have trouble with adjusting their vision to dark spaces will have a tougher time of it. I prefer well-lit areas, especially when it comes to selecting someone who I need to be visually and physically turned on by for a romp. I totally hate dark rooms for that very reason (and experience has taught me that the less physically appealing the prospect, the more they prefer dim lighting). It took me a few days to adjust to the lack of lighting in the cruise areas and the bar areas of the sauna. Even the stairwells were dark. However, after the rough vision adjustment, I enjoyed the sauna. Outside of Brazil, it’s the best of its kind. And yes, the UN variety is a plus.1 point -

While the crime rate is high, it’s mostly in the big cities. Rio and São Paulo. Brazil is as beautiful a country as there is. If you visit other coastal cities the crime rate drops. We are all used to the lack of crime in Thailand, but in most of the rest of the world it exists. I live in Ft.Lauderdale. I wouldn’t walk on the beach in Miami or Ft.Lauderdale late at night for safety reasons. Chances are if you go to Brazil it will be a much shorter trip than you do to Thailand . Yes, you’ll probably make a few adjustments for safety. But if you have the opportunity don’t miss out on the incredible beauty of the country and some of the most beautiful and sexy people around. Rio beaches are an amazing sight. Just use them daytime, not nighttime.1 point

For A.S. An interesting read... https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/its-time-to-create-a-conservative-ecosystem-that-doesnt-welcome-racists It's time to create a conservative ecosystem that doesn't welcome racists Liberal commentators will always say conservatives are just a bunch of racists. This is a lie. But conservatives need to do a better job convincing the racists that it's a lie. A handful of conservatives, including quietly influential figures in important conservative institutions, were outed last week by leaked emails as participating in a pro-Hitler, nakedly anti-Semitic, and plainly racist email list. While liberal journalists are prone to inventing racism everywhere, this was no invention. The article in Splinter by Hannah Geis was no smear. It was serious and fair reporting that ought to cause conservatives to ask what we are doing wrong. John Elliott, formerly of the Institute for Humane Studies and Intercollegiate Studies Institute, was a central figure in the story. IHS and ISI are respected and mainstream conservative institutions. Thousands of conservative and libertarian journalists and activists have passed through them. Hundreds of them received mentorship from Elliott. I’ve been friendly with Elliot for a decade. He’s brought me in (and gotten me paid) to speak to students at both organizations. My first reaction upon reading the Splinter story was horror that otherwise sane-seeming people in the United States hold Hitlerian views. (For what it's worth, Elliott apologized for the emails and said he no longer believes those things. I pray that’s sincere.) “According to one former mentee,” Geis wrote, “Elliott opened up to those he deemed ‘red-pilled’ — a term used by white nationalists and so-called ‘men’s rights activists’ to refer to someone who has been awakened to their cause.” So my second reaction was: At least Elliott never suspected I was red-pilled. My third reaction was: Great, now liberals are going to paint everyone who’s gone through IHS, ISI, or the Daily Caller as racists. But my fourth reaction was the unsettling one: Why the hell did racists seek homes in conservative and liberal institutions, and why the hell were young conservatives easily won over to racist views? Snide liberals will chuckle and say something like, “Because conservatism is racism.” But the snideness and falseness of that answer shouldn’t deter us from mulling over the question and doing something to make clear that conservatism and racism don’t mix — that if your red pill looks anything like Elliott's, you're really not welcome here. Again, none of this will stop the bad-faith or hate-filled folks on the Left from calling us all bigots in the pages of Bloomberg News or the Washington Post. But it will serve at least two good ends: First, it will make it clear to diehard racists that they’re not welcome over here. Second, it will protect impressionable young conservatives from being wooed by them. What’s needed is not mere “outreach” to black, Hispanic, or Jewish voters. Conservatives ought to make elevation of African Americans, immigrants, and religious minorities so central to conservatism that all dedicated racists will be thoroughly repelled. If we can't make them stop calling themselves the “alt-right,” because they won’t want to be associated with us, we can at least disgust them with such a focus. Why? Mostly because it’s the right thing to do. Conservatives don’t give it enough attention, but one of the greatest evils in the U.S. today is rank racial inequality. The median income of African Americans is below $31,000, which is less than half the median income of white Americans. More blacks are imprisoned in America than are whites, even though there are nearly five white people here for every black person. There are a thousand points of data like this, all confirming that being an African American means living with the odds stacked against you. Do you remember playing video games that allowed you to set the difficulty level? Imagine if you could set the difficulty level for your life. The data all suggest that being an immigrant or an African American means setting a much higher difficulty level than being a white guy. To accept this reality doesn’t require one to declare that whites are all vile racists or oppressors. It doesn’t require agreeing that the U.S. is fundamentally a white supremacist nation. It just requires the sincere acceptance of two premises: First, that all humans are created equal (the official teaching of the U.S. founders and all Abrahamic religions), and second, that blacks and Hispanics have far worse outcomes in the U.S. If both of these premises are true — and they are — then things in the U.S. still aren’t fair and can be improved. And if the game is rigged so badly in the U.S. that thousands of young men are shot on the streets of Chicago, that tens of thousands of black babies are aborted every year, that hundreds of thousands are born out of wedlock, then isn’t that a crisis that deserves attention? Conservatives ought to make it a priority to fight for the fundamental dignity and equality of racial minorities who have been denied that dignity and equality. It will require overcoming decades of injustice, and so won't happen quickly. We won't disabuse the Left of their self-satisfied smears and conceits, but that's not the point. Conservatives will be able to take solace in the fact that we're fighting the good fight and pissing off the racists.1 point

Very wise words, Divine Madman. I couldn’t agree more. One of the toughest life lessons is learning to see shades of grey. After you start seeing shades of grey, you realize that just about everything in life is shades of grey. I agree with you, DM. There is no conspiracy to make farang life in Thailand miserable. In fact, it just might possibly be true that, just maybe, it’s not actually about us. Strange idea, isn’t it, that other people exist, see things through the lens of their culture and experience, may not think the same as we do, may have other priorities besides our precious little selves. Oh, the humanity!1 point
