In Grindr or Scruff, at least in Rio, there is an increasing number of guys who claim to like "maduros" or "coroas"or "50 +" ie older gentlemen. During my first trips to Rio, back 10 years ago, these ads were very rare. They are now common and are basically of 4 types : - the garotos de programa who are identified as such in the ad - the garotos who are in fact garotos de programa but who do not identify themselves as GP and try to find an older gentlemen who will think that he is not a guy next door and not a GP - the garotos really liking older gentlemen, who are of course a very small minority. They are not expecting anything else than finding a boyfriend or starting a relationship with someone older. They are not looking for money. Since my first travel, I met around 15 of these boys and am still in contact with a few of them, even meeting some of them, for dinner or more, when I am in Brazil - the crooks. This is a new category which seems to be growing and I know that there is a gang of these boys operating in Rio and Sao Paulo. They will meet you and then blackmail you, rob you and put pressure on you to get money. Below are some of the precautions I take to try to identify the boys who genuinely like older gentlemen : - I make it very clear that I am not looking for a GP and I am not prepared to pay for sex (normally the guys from first 2 categories above stop chatting) - I make it clear that I am not (only) looking for sex but want to have discussion on subjects such as politics, travels, languages, art, music, ... - I try to use internet sites which are specialized in bears (and therefore avoid Grindr or Scruff or be even more careful on these general sites) - I check if they know the places where older gentlemen and younger guys who like them meet together (ie La Cueva in Rio and ABC Bailao in Sao Paulo, or internet sites such as ursosderio, or sauna such as Carioca in Rio or Sauna LeRouge 80 in Sao Paulo) - Some questions raise a red flag, in particular the question "are you alone in Rio ?" or personnal questions coming too early and not naturrally during the exchange (on job, ...) - Some attachments also raise a red flag : a too good looking guy -almost a model -, nudes of open asses or huge dicks sent very early in the exchange, ... - I always meet in a public place first, never in my hotel or apartment. I normally arrive in advance in order to see who is coming, if he is alone, is he looks like the pictures which were sent, etc - I never ever go to a boy's place. It is an unknown environment and you never know whom you are going to meet. In addition, a movie or pictures of your meeting can be done ... I remember the story of this american guy who recently in Rio went with 2 guys he met in the street and with whom he had drinks. He was threatened to be thrown from the window and his head and torso were already out (his shouting made the neighbours call the cops). BTW the 2 guys were working in 117. I saw one of them in 117 a few days after the incident. The other is banned from 117, certainly for other reasons. In addition, it is impossible to know what is going to be3 points

Your chances of getting mugged in Rio are much less than your chances of getting attacked in this forum.3 points

My solution, at least up to now, has been to write a trip report and post it. I learn from the replies and comments. Then I take all of that I start to plan my next trip and to look at the calendar and see when that can happen and maybe a trip after that. I keep in touch with forum members who post comments but dont' detail much of what they see. And sometimes, international crises intervene favorably. Example...I've been planning a late November trip, I was also going to be in Hong Kong for the US Labor Day Holiday. The State Department sent me a warning about that...so, instead of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, I'll change plans in the airport and have a five day visit to Bangkok. I'll check things out for November and savor the extra visit.3 points

As you may know, I was long ago banned from that other site for daring to speak the truth. All for the better I would say as much of it has been overrun by a clique of crazy right (white) wing conspiracy believing loonies/ There was a colorful character there (personally known to me) LeonTrotsky/aka "SexyAsianStud" who finally told Ms.Fawkes himself to STFU and kiss his ass. Someone FINALLY Tells Guy Fawkes to STFU

Many years ago, when my lust for Benjamin Nicholas affected the stature of my rock hard erection, I offered frequent contributions at Hooville. I, too, was stunned by the number of right wingers on that board, especially in admin. Sources tell me that the old, bald queen known as Epigonos, also known for his (gag-me) deviled eggs, has no difficulty spewing his Republican views if he corners you at the PS pool party. I would have enjoyed smashing an egg in his face if he ever tried that with me. I love talking politics with smart, informed people, but I tend to avoid political chit-chat on the internet. I don't recall Hooboy's politics. I tried to ignore Daddy's posts as much as possible, but I suspected he had strong political opinions that leaned toward a mix of Republican and Libertarian, a weird mix for sure. Add to that his love of sci-fi, and you got a crazy cake for sure. Cooper the mod was an admitted Republican who claimed to enjoy placing dollar bills in a male stripper's ass crack. The picture in my mind of a White, cheap, fat, classist subjugator was always quite vivid. So I never hesitated to mock him, and I got banned for it. A personally proud moment, for sure. I have a number of friends who vote Republican, but they're all heterosexual businessmen. NYC Republicans are their own breed. They're often selfish and greedy, so paying less taxes is their singular voting issue. They're not much interested in culture wars. I don't have any close gay friends who are registered Republicans. Never have in all my years in NYC. I'm not quite sure how I would make a close friendship like that work. I'm glad I haven't had to give it much thought. I don't understand why any gay man would vote Republican, even if he's filthy rich. The way AIDS was handled by the Republicans in the 1980's was bad enough. The party's consistent homophobic, anti-gay policies, while many were sucking dick and taking hard cock up the ass in secret, is way too much damaging hypocrisy for any community to forgive and forget. In NYC, I'm often reminded of the expression, "self-hating Jew." I suppose there is also such a thing as a "self-hating gay." There are plenty of studies available on the internet that look at why people vote against their own interest. Examples are evident in my own Midwest family. Some parents are hard-core one way or another. And they raise their children to think in the same manner. Brainwashing the kids, and it works. Thankfully, my parents believed in free-thinking, so they did not try to control our minds. My dad voted for Ronald Reagan, but he also voted for Bill Clinton twice. My parents were registered Democrats, but they weren't always loyal to one party. Racism plays a large role, but that's for another thread. I do hate the racists. Recently, my gun-loving Republican cousin had to put her mother into a nursing home. In time, her mother's assets were depleted, and she faced two choices: pay out of her own pocket or sign her mother up for Medicaid. When I tell you that my cousins are all staunch Republicans (they hate anything named Clinton), "crazed right winger" doesn't even touch the surface. Of course my cousin signed her mother up for Medicaid. With a few homes and a few boats, the thought of spending personal money was too much to endure. But here's the kicker: their red state was reluctant to accept Medicaid expansion in the ACA. Eventually, at great hoopla, their Republican governor accepted it. If it hadn't been for President Barack Obama, whom they hated, there would have been no option to put her mother on Medicaid. I would love the opportunity to throw their hypocritical bullshit right back in their faces, but I have limited time left in my life and I'm too disinterested in fighting with assholes. I want to spend the last third of my life in the peace I create, so I decided to cut ties without telling them. I bought property in Italy, so it's very easy to escape family functions. "Sorry, I'll be in Italy."2 points -

Oh no...another thread about crime and muggings in Rio...while the homicide rate decreased of a 18% YoY. I'm gonna repeat myself ...besides people getting robbed 392 times a week...STOP PUTTING A HUGE TARGET ON YOUR BACK, acting like a tourist, or doing stupid things like acting as a rich person (brazilian or not) while you're in areas at risk. If you don't do stupid things you'll not get mugged. The only time I got assaulted was i guess 3 years ago, while sitting on Copacabana's beach at night...I deserved it as a lesson. This is not something valid only in Rio or Brazil (where the crisis is still hitting hard)....it's still valid in every big city, with some rare and extreme exceptions. But i want to spend a couple of words about 117's place....Rua Candido Mendes outside 117 is not dangerous until you don't pass the Swiss consulate which is 4 or 5 buildings upwards from 117. The route between 117 and the metro is safe even at night, until you walk staying close to the buildings. The robberies and the muggings which occurred to the garotos on the last times occurred in Rua da Gloria, on the road side which faces towards Flamengo; and in Rua Hermenegildo de Barros, which is the road above 117, where Ubers usually do a U-turn and where many garotos park their cars and motorbikes. True, these guys are complaining, but ask them why they think they got robbed and they'll all tall you they did a stupid thing. One was walking on the road side of Rua da Gloria and got stopped by two armed guys on a motorbike, while wearing a huge golden necklace and walking with his iphone on his hands wearing earplugs. Another one was having a Facetime call while walking in the night. Another one was counting the bills at the corner... Another one (which is one of the former) got beaten down because he tried himself to beatdown the assaulters. Too bad it was a 3 vs 1. Got lucky they didn't have a knife or a gun. Don't think that the thieves don't know what's going on in saunas (can be 117, 202, Lagoa....and so on) and how much money is coming in and out from it. Last week I was forced to interrupt a brief holiday in Europe and to come back to Sao Paulo, because thieves incredibly broke into my apartment (and 2 more on the same building). Curiously the same thing happened to a friend of me in NYC at the beginning of July and 2 building workers, got injured too. Around 8 years ago I was sitting "alone" waiting for a late night bus in Dublin and playing with my mobile phobe...which got stolen from a young kid. Oh and then there's a friend of a friend of me in the UK, which got seriously injured by acid attacks. (and for some reasons....i feel like it's easier to die in a big EU city due to a terrorist attack than to die in Brazil due to an assault.) The short version? Act as a local, don't do stupid things and in the case that shit happens, don't do the Rambo.2 points -

Daily I visit this forum and read Gaybutton and Sawatdenetwork as well. Daily check ChristianPFC blog if there are new entries and every so often ShamelessMack's one as well . About twice a year a read again all my trip reports here. Yes , also watch Thai porn from time to time and pretty regularly watch again one of GHtaimove movies as well as Bangkok G Story- a lot of aerial vistas of Bangkok in those . Pass by two Thai restaurants daily and sometimes eat there. Have friend who visits Thailand regularly on business , usually in different times than me so he brings fresh news, unfortunately not from boys front as he is heavy on soi Cowboy and Nana. All that keeps me buzzed up about things Thai. Can't say I spent time planning next trip but think about it plenty and then there's spark and bookings are done. Uneven nature of work duties makes some months out of bounds , on another hand there other where getting time off is no issue even on very short notice , but of course money is. I did not notice any withdrawal syndrome because I know that at one point of year I will go, hell or high water. Long flights are no problem but jet lags are with 2 and 3 rd after arrival the worst. Before trip I don't make any plans to see particular boys because I learned over years that almost always they are not available/ interested any more / don't look attractive as before etc. so better not to be too disappointed2 points -
Do You Like Indian Food?
Alexbbb reacted to Avalon1849 for a topic
I do! I haven't had any in several years. Today - 15 August - is the anniversary of India's independence in 1947. So several weeks ago I suggested here at the nursing home that we have Indian food today. Didn't happen. So I cancelled my dinner here and ordered Indian food from a local Indian restaurant and had it delivered. There are a number of Indian staff here.1 point -

I got back from a two-week trip to Thailand and have felt a deep postpartum ever since. I miss the food, the street life, the boys, the sense of adventure, the shows, the massages -- all of it. In an attempt to soothe myself... I have re-read everyone's sexual escapades on the forum. I have watched every Thai porn vid on Pornhub. I've tried to recreate Thai food on my own. I've cruised the boys in Thai Town in Los Angeles. I've gone to the cruisy Korean spas, in an attempt to replicate Babylon. However, I am still missing Thailand dearly. Are there other websites, video sites, places you go, things you do in order to hold onto that special feeling?1 point -
From the Bangkok Post Thanks to the extended MRT Blue Line, one of the most fascinating parts of the capital is now within easy reach Saphan Han is one of Bangkok's oldest surviving bridges. It's not clear when it was first built, but the bridge has been reconstructed at least three times: during the reigns of King Mongkut (Rama IV), King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and King Bhumibol (Rama IX). The one shown in the black and white photo was the version built under King Rama V. Like the world-famous Rialto Bridge in Venice, it was lined with shops. The current concrete version dates from 1962. Most Bangkokians are familiar with the name Saphan Han, but not many have seen the actual bridge, since this part of the canal had been fully covered by a market for decades. The shops were removed a couple of years ago as part of an urban beautification project. The area you'll be reading about in this article is only around 1.2km². Yet, it's packed full of fascinating things to see and do, from Wang Burapha, Saphan Han and Sampheng, to Phahurat, Saphan Phut, Pak Klong Talat and Ban Mo. To help you get a better picture of this section of Bangkok's old town, let's first define its boundaries. Starting in the north, where the new Sam Yot MRT station is located on Charoen Krung Road, the area extends eastwards to Maha Chak Road, and westwards to Klong Khu Muang Doem, the old city moat, with the Chao Phraya River marking the southern boundary. All this is easily walkable from Sam Yot station, so visitors are free to roam the area however they want to. But I'd like to recommend a route that spares you from having to walk back to Sam Yot. rom the station, follow the one-way-traffic on Charoen Krung Road to SAB junction, then turn right onto Chakkrawat Road. Wat Chai Chana Songkhram, Wat Chakkrawat and Chao Krom Poe, a 123-year-old herbal medicine dispensary, are just down the street. Between the two temples, where Yaowarat Road intersects Chakkrawat Road, lies the century-old Luean Rit community, which is undergoing major restoration. Once the project is completed, the area will be a new attraction in an already interesting corner of the city. But for the time being, Luean Rit is sealed and off-limits to the public. Incidentally, at the time of writing, on Google Maps, Street View depicts Luean Rit as it now is, surrounded by tall metal walls. However, as you move through the entrance to the restoration site, Street View shows lively scenes from before the residents moved out. It's like suddenly being transported back in time. Very cool. I recommend trying it before Google updates it. Back to our actual tour, from Wat Chakkrawat, cross to the other side of the street and take Hua Met lane, part of Sampheng wholesale district, to Klong Ong Ang and Phahurat. Along the way, be adventurous and explore all the alleyways. You might find some delightful surprises, as I did. The Thai public school a reputation for adhering to a strict rote learning approach to education. News about the this innovative project (and he one in the previous post) I find encouraging. From Channel News Asia Can ‘alternative schools’ revolutionise Thai education and improve children's capabilities? HUAY PAN, Thailand: The school children of Huay Pan are getting ready for their afternoon lesson where they will be taught about water. There is nothing particularly unusual about what their teacher has got planned for them, with one exception. The classroom will be the Nan River, a 740-km tributary that flows through their little village in one of the most remote parts in northern Thailand. Eight students aged between six and 14 swim to a clearing on the muddy riverbank. They sit in a circle with their teacher and discuss what they have to find out during the class. “Today, we’ll learn how to find food in the river. Do you see what your parents are doing in the water behind you?” Saranporn “Mon” Ratsiwo asks her students. “Fishing!” they all reply. “Your parents will be your teachers this afternoon. So, let’s find out what methods they use to catch fish and what else we can find in the water besides fish, shrimps and seaweed. There may be other things in there,” the teacher says to her excited pupils. The class moves into the river. Young children hold their parent’s hand as they walk on slippery river rocks while the older ones dash past with fishnets and swimming goggles. Hands-on experience in outdoor classes forms a significant part of teaching and learning at the Huay Pan Learning Centre – the only school that is easily accessible by the village children, who would otherwise have to travel up to 120 kilometres to get a basic education. Unlike Thai mainstream schools, the Huay Pan Learning Centre offers ‘alternative education’ to children from kindergarten to junior high school. Its curriculum not only covers the core subjects laid out by the Education Ministry but also incorporates lessons on issues that directly impact the village such as soil, water, forest and food security. Even more unusual when compared with mainstream schools, the Huay Pan Learning centre offers its students a say in what they are taught. Children get to choose what they want to learn and do not have to sit exams. Evaluation takes place throughout the academic year and marks are accumulated through project work. As for teachers, they are not lecturers but rather mentors who design an active learning environment and ask questions designed to trigger students’ curiosity. “Traditional education in Thailand is like learning in a small square room. But here, our students learn from first-hand experiences in their environment. They learn by seeing and touching real things, and that brings happiness to the learning process," Mon told CNA. I have read your posts over several years. Prior to the above-quoted post, I previously appreciated your level-headed statements. Did you not bother to read the evidence presented showing that the poster in question had reported the exact same mugging twice - once in October of last year and again in February of this year? That double reporting of a mugging, with exact same facts, put the poster's other claim of two additional muggings in the same month in doubt. To add to the doubt of the alleged duplicate muggings at the beach, the poster did not present any details of the two additional muggings he claimed occurred in the same month; February of this year (three muggings in one month). Copies of the poster's own prior postings to this forum from last year were presented as proof the same mugging with exact same details were reported in October of last year and again in February of this year (plus two additional muggings in February that offered no details). How could you have ignored the above facts and copies of the posters prior reports and write your inappropriate comment implying that we were "venting venom" against the forum poster? The tragedy (to use your chosen word) is that you responded to our posts without reading or acknowledging the facts. You owe three of us an apology for your inappropriate attack. To my knowledge, no one on this forum ever wrote anything doubting your own street mugging that you reported as happening to you on Avenida Atlantica some years back.1 point

Given proof of the poster's double reporting of the same crime (over a five months span) leaves little incentive to believe anything the poster writes in the future or anything the poster has written in the past in these forums. In addition to double reporting of the same crime more than once (plus claiming two additional robberies in February of this year), the poster bragged about having lived in Brazil for ten years and knowing the local language. Big deal! Many of us know the language and many of us have visited Brazil over many years. The poster's boasting about his ten-year residency and boasting of a language proficiency leaves the impression the poster believes his knowledge is superior to any other long-term visitor to Brazil. I think credibility of the poster is non existent.1 point

Apologistas for Rio de Janeiro crime, go f_ _ k yourselves. #1) I have lived here ten years. #2) I was assaulted RECENTLY, February 2019 on the sidewalk in front of the beach in Ipanema at about 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. Directly in front of Posto 10. I speak fluent Portuguese. I told the pivette I had nothing for him, as I changed from my tennis shoes to chinos. #3) No one came to help or chase the pivette #4) thenowner of the quiosque called me an ambulance, the police and the firefighters. For 20-30 minutes, no one came to help a tourist, and I heard the owner talking on his phone. He gave me two bags of ice. After the bleeding to my eyebrow reduced, I grabbed myself a taxi to Copa D'or in Copacabana, where I received three stitches. #5) Apologistas for the dangers that can take place in Rio de Janeiro, just stop. If it can happen on a Sunday afternoon, near the Ave. Vieira Souto at 2pm in front of a lifeguard station, in can happen anywhere. #6) The pivette got nothing from me, except a free escape, no one went after him, no authority ever showed, I took it upon myself to arrange my own care. #7) So to the apologistas.....stop already.1 point

What’s “annoying” is not that you had this harrowing experience — which everyone believes you did, who would not? — but that it happened FOURTEEN YEARS AGO and you’re still referring to it as some recent event. Do you have a more recent experience? If not, your constant continued recounting of this 2005 mugging outside of the Copacabana Palace does nothing for current travelers. If your point is to keep making a comparative analysis —- that there was crime in Rio then, and there is still crime, now — ok, Captain Obvious, you’ve made it. Rio is NOT a very safe city! Very few cities in Brazil are safe relative to some other parts of the globe. Now, do you have any current experiences in Rio / Brazil to contribute, or is it just that you will never return to the country because of that incident in 2005?1 point -
he is supposed to be straight although I always wonder how really straight are those guys who are going to bed with other guys, I know , money speaks but stil... Mekhin may be looking at 2500 short time although with age his looks may not be what it was before but he always was known for being friendly and attitude-free1 point

The average customer would have more money GOING TO 117 than the average sauna garoto. The average sauna garoto would have more money LEAVING 117 than the average customer.1 point -

Taxi rank? Nowadays, Uber will come door to door. Also the taxi apps will pick you up at the door as well. I’d recommend doing either if you’re concerned for your safety. I won’t discount anyone’s personal experience, because everyone is different and people are targeted for crime for different reasons. However, I will say that I’ve never had an issue walking from 117 to the Gloria Metro. I will now knock on wood!1 point -

There is a Dreamboys and a Dreamboys Paradiso. Same management, entrances are just a few steps from one another. Lucky Boys, Freahboys, and HotMale have all relocated there.1 point
