I had a LTR for about 10 years with a handsome guy from Udon Thani who was working at Jupiter when I first met him. We eventually parted ways, amicably. In essence, I think, the problem was that it was also LDR (Long Distance Relationship). I was living in Thailand when we met, and we saw each other regularly for several months before we decided that we were each other's "fan." I left the country about 18 months later. We had never lived together during that time. He said he couldn't because he wasn't out to his family and didn't want to lie about his living arrangements. What if they called and a farang answered the phone? How could he explain that? After that, we carried on long-distance for another 8 years while I was living and working in other countries in the region. I would go to BKK quite often, up to 6 or 8 times per year, and he would come and stay with me at my hotel for the duration. I briefly owned a condo unit in Pattaya, which he renovated for me. One year I took a long leave and we spent a month there together, the longest time we were ever under the same roof. What I got out of the experience overall is that a long distance LTR is possible, but at some point you actually have to be together in the same place permanently, rather than letting it go on indefinitely. Otherwise, the separation leads to growing apart. That was my experience, anyway.7 points

I suspect that, for a few of us us if f not for many, the long-distance nature of the relationship is a plus. P is very Thai, rooted in his culture and religion as well as his family, while I am very much the urban Londoner whose interests are very different. Equally important, P is 36 and I am 72. I have no desire to live permanently in Thailand; I investigated the possibility thirteen years ago and, wisely as it turned out, decided to stay in London. Nor would P be happy here; he'd be friendless and far from his family. Three visits a year, each of which is an adventure, travelling in Thailand and Asia together, keeps the relationship fresh. For the remaining nine months, we have LINE! And yes, I miss him badly. I fear that, one day, the journey may become too much for me. Until then, carpe diem.3 points

I've enjoyed reading your thread, @asnstudent. The vicarious experience of re-living my newbie days has been bittersweet but pleasurable. With regard to Arena and other places of its kind, I learned after a while that I don't necessarily have to do things their way. For instance, I've never liked the sit-and-point method of selecting a masseur from a lineup. After a few years, I decided to take a new approach. I walk down the line and say hello to everybody up close. If I particularly like someone, I shake his hand. If he has a firm grip, that's a good sign for me. When I get to the end of the line I turn back to the guy I want and lead him up to the mamasan.3 points

Asking advice from Americans in the forum

Boston could be nice for a day or two. It's a nice small manageable city. Some interesting historical walks you can take showing famous places in the history of the fight to overthrow the cruel British tyrannical overlords. I especially like to go to the tavern where, they say, the Revolution began because a British soldier failed to tip a tavern maid. Boston is nice, but you might find it a tad boring? Highly recommend Provincetown. Lots of ways to get there, including a ferry to/fro Boston. It's a quaint-ish old New England town that is just chock full of the gays. Very fun. You go there and relax for a few days. Lobster salad sandwiches by the harbor. Very open and welcoming gay scene. If you really want to get your gay on, you could go to Fire Island. You can get there by train from NYC. Fire Island Pines for glamour and pretty boys. Cherry Grove for less elitist gays and more lesbians. I don't know about hotel availability. Expect they would be expensive. You spend half your time on the beach, half your time tracking down an Ecstasy connection and the remaining half of your time dancing and fucking like a bunny. (Yes three halves, because, as everyone knows, time slows down on MDMA.) People really love Philadelphia (and you can get there by train from NYC). The Maine shore is lovely, to drive along. As a gay you would be required to visit Ogonquit harbor. But unless you want soulful selfies of yourself with ocean waves crashing along the rocky shore in the background, not sure all that interesting.2 points -

Sex is definitely a hobby and one of my favorites. My husband says my sex drive is too active. I tell him, "honey I've done everything in life the way I was supposed to. College and a thriving career." At this stage in my life I'm entitled to fuck all day and night if I want.2 points -

If you like entertainment, nowhere beats Las Vegas - not even Broadway. I dont mean the gaming tables but the absolutely stunning shows by Cirque du Soleil. These permanent shows in specially built theatres in hotels are nothing like the touring shows that have sometimes come to Asia. In fact they are vastly bigger, technically amazing and the best entertainment you will ever see. 'O' at the Bellagio. 'Ka' with its vertical fight at the MGM Grand, 'Love' (to the digitally remastered surround sound music of The Beatles) are absolute must sees. There is also one to Michael Jacksons songs called 'One' at the Mandalay Bay. You can book tickets on line. You can even take in two shows in one evening. Hotels can be pretty inexpensive and eating is also cheap and very good. Youll have to put up with crowds but it is still a place that will stay in your memory. If you are not returning via the Pacific, you can probably still get a good price on a return ticket to Las Vegas from New York. There is also an amazing show at Wynns by the original creator of some of Cirque du Soleil shows, Le Reve. It is a circular water based show - so dont sit in the front rows! And of course there is the free fountain shows at the Bellagio between 3pm and 8pm. If you are a bit flush, book a helicopter tour over the Hoover dam and actually into the Grand Canyon with a glass or two of champagne when you touch down in the Canyon. Make sure you have your camera with you. If not, there are plenty of coach tours.1 point

CURE FOR THE GAY MAN'S LONELY BLUES
flipao reacted to BlkSuperman for a topic
A CURE for the gay man’s, “LONELY BLUES” Ever get gravely bored, sit back and think to yourself, “damn is this what life is about?” if so, then it’s probably your fault and things will never change until you change. What I mean is, most of us don’t put ourselves out there or in situations to meet new people and have new, exciting experiences. I’m know I’m extremely blessed to have a wonderful husband I can travel, dine, eat with and do countless of other things, but before I met my husband I was very active in a lot of gay clubs and activities. When I say gay clubs I don’t mean the clubs you go to at night to hear loud, obnoxious house music all night long. Those kinds of clubs bored the shit out of me. believe it or not, when I would go to those clubs, even though I was surrounded by lots of people, I felt very alone. The type of clubs im speaking of are gay sports clubs. In Miami we have a ton of these clubs. These clubs reach far beyond Miami though and you probably have them in your city or state and just never heard of them. Ive been a long time member of the Miami gay tennis and softball clubs. They also have gay bowling, volleyball, kickball, flag football and gay swim leagues. Before I met my husband these clubs helped fill a void that I desperately needed to be filled. Ive made lasting friendships and close bonds with many of the guys in these leagues. Before you stop reading because you feel as though youre not athletically inclined to participate in these sports, give me a second and I will tell you why you don’t have to be athletically inclined to participate in any of these leagues. First of all, each league has different divisions. Lets say for instance, you are not the strongest or fastest in the aforementioned sports. It doesn’t matter because they can put you in a division that you would perfectly fit in and is more your pace. The A division is usually for the gay guys who could probably play the sport professionally. The D division is for novices and are played at a much slower pace. If youre body wont allow you to participate because of a bum knee, back or any other ailment, then you can volunteer for one of these leagues. They are always looking for board members and people to volunteer at LOCAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENTS. I always play the sports so ive never volunteered, but if you ask me the volunteers have the most fun because they get to meet everyone at these local, national and international tournaments. These tournaments are lots of fun because during the tournaments the governing board have sanctioned events at gay night clubs, a members home or at a park. There is food, drinks and a shit load of comradery. These teams are usually sponsored by many of the local gay bars and they have fundraisers at these bars to raise money for team uniforms and travels. The fundraisers are a blast also. These events have afforded me the opportunity to meet a lot of nice people and forge friendships that I never would have had I not joined these leagues. A lot of times were lonely because we chose to build walls instead of bridges. In my humble opinion, the gay softball league is probably one of the better leagues to join. They have the most amazing tournaments. If you don’t believe me just google gay softball league in Miami, California or atlanta then you will see just how widespread these leagues are. Also google HURRICANE SHOWDOWN. This is an AMAZING TOURNAMENT played up in ft lauderdale each year during thanksgiving weekend. If you don’t put yourself out there to meet new people and start new friendships then you only have yourself to blame. These leagues were organized by gays in order for us to meet people just like us. I decided to write this piece because my husbands shift has changed at work and now he leaves at 3 p.m. and works until about 11 p.m. this leaves me home alone for 8 hours until he returns. when Im home alone I do get the lonely blues, but I have solace in knowing my hubby will be home by 11:30. What about the gay guy who doesn’t have a husband coming home to them at night? These clubs cant guarantee you will find the man of your dreams, (although I know many guys who have actually met their husbands in one of these leagues), but trust me on this one guys, THESE CLUBS WILL HELP CURE THE GAY MANS LONELY BLUES. Especially, if you go into the league with an open mind and a calm, humble spirit. LIFE IS LIKE A PLATE OF FOOD. IN ORDER TO SPICE IT UP, YOU HAVE TO ADD THE INGREDIENTS TO SPICE IT UP!!!!!! P.S. I also bought a Playstation 4 to help kill time when the hubby is away!! Lots of fun! Be well, fellas!!!!!1 point -

Who is your Dream Team choice to beat Trump?
AdamSmith reacted to tassojunior for a topic
I'm keeping optimistic on a wildcard combo of Bernie, Tulsi, Yang, even Bullock in some combination. Warren a little bit too. But I don't see the groundswell like Bernie had in 2016. Biden and somebody special is even a possibility evidently, though I can't see him as a winner. If the "Dem" wins it has to be someone more independent with a huge tidal wave of support of support for real change. Surprises happen, just like Obama in 2008 and Bernie in 2016.1 point -

Last week end in Rio was terrible : rainy, windy, cold (15°C). Not only you cannot go to the beach but, due to rain (and to soccer games), only few garotos in the saunas. Monday was slightly better and Tuesday in 117 was great. Sun was back, temperatures back to 20 / 26 °C. Met 2 great bottoms in 117 yesterday. Both great kissers, great suckers - one is called "boca de veludo" (velvet mouth) - power bottoms, friendly, very good looking ... only in Brazil !1 point

Good thing too. There have been a number of Major Assholes over the years, but they seem to get drummed out of the corps before they ever make it to Colonel. I dimly recall a Brigadier General Asshole who served briefly on the Southern flank, but he was such a raging bottom that OZ had to cashier him before all his troops deserted. If we ever do manage to attract someone with more than one star, you can be pretty sure he’ll pop up in the Politics Forum, so check there when you find yourself ready to deal. In the meantime, please feel free to send me a private with any other asshole-related questions.1 point

On almost every trip I use that approach of booking some hotels well in advance and some just before departure including some bookings when I'm already there and showing at the door without reservation so can say I did some research on the subject and results are the same like yours - very inconclusive. Apart from high of highs season like second half of Dec , first half of Jan and week around Songkran there are always rooms available so no danger of sleeping on the street or very expensively when arriving without reservation but I did notice very few spectacular last minute savings although they do happen but usually in higher end places and are very short lived. ( few years ago just before going to bed I got e-mail from one of our members that Raya has spectacular discounts on Expedia , I'm glad I acted immediately because in the morning offers were gone and it was something like 45 $ for huge Executive room with breakfast for 2 which rarely goes for less than 90-100 $ ). On another hand if somebody feels strongly about staying somewhere ( or definitely NOT staying somewhere ) my advice would be to book as soon as acceptable price will be available to avoid disappointments. If one doesn't really care as long as lodging is within desired area and price range than last minute bookings may produce some savings Additional perks like free breakfast appear more often well in advance than in last minute offerings. Thing to watch is free cancellation as often for 2-3 $ more we can have that option, handy is something better will present itself ( my case in Tarntawan in Nov 2013 when I cancelled earlier made booking and booked the same type of room there for enough savings to bother ) Another one is to look at all offers of the place as not necessarily cheapest one is the best, sometimes for literally few $ more one may get better class room with free cancellation and free breakfast instead of bare bones non -refundable offer in ' superior' room . (As we all noticed 'superior ' in many places means " superior to sleeping on the street" )1 point

while I agree that Khao San is a tourist magnet I always wonder what is the pull of the place other then desire of young travelers to be in a company of their own kind. Like people are traveling all the way from say , Germany or USA to meet other Germans / Americans . Very little local color , no prime attraction nearby, inconvenient to get to and not very attractive part of town , honestly I'd be happy if somebody explained what is the reason for a place being such magnet1 point

Those numbers are diminishing rapidly as the above breakdown shows. And the banners on top of Kos show only 30% of Americans approve of the GOP, and only 38% of the Democratic party. The parties are relics that still de facto control our government.1 point -
