  1. Hello all. This is my first time posting after discovering this amazing community about a year ago. I’ve enjoyed reading all the trip reports, informative articles and even the reviews on local hotspots. I’ve enjoyed them so much that I even booked my trip to Bangkok in September. I will be there the entire month. Although I’m saddened that I couldn’t enjoy the famous soi Twilight, I’m excited to see what this new soi has in store. This will be my first time visiting the land of smiles and I’m equally thrilled as I am nervous to explore Bangkok. With that being said, if anyone is in Bangkok around that time and would like to show this newbie around, it would be greatly appreciated :) I’ve particularly took interest in the ever so famous Babe at Moonlight and while I not so sure about my chances are of offing him, I’m sure a glimpse will do the trick. But who knows? I might give it shot. Other places that are on my agenda include: Jupiter, Hot Male, Tawan and many more. As far as introductions go, my name is Nick. I’m 24 and recently graduated college with a business marketing degree. This trip is to not only celebrate this major accomplishment but to explore a part of the world I’ve never seen before and maybe experience some new things. I enjoy reading all of the trip reports and am excited to write my own very soon. I’ve got about a month left and the anticipating is killing me. This is all so very exciting!

  3. One is curious to know how ‘more’ detail can be shared than is already done here, every day.

For the weekends, maybe the market at Koh Kret. I have been there and it's fun - and a chance to ride the river boats: https://migrationology.com/koh-kret-day-trip-bangkok/ For an evening, maybe the Muay Thai at Rajadamnern or Lumpinee Stadum: https://rajadamnern.com/ https://www.lumpineemuaythai.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMImN-dsKfe4wIVRXZgCh0NdwRAEAAYAiAAEgJWDPD_BwE Believe me, seeing Muay Thai at a real, professional, stadium is nothing, nothing at all, like seeing it at one of the tourist oriented rings. Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre and the Jim Thompson House are very close together https://en.bacc.or.th/ http://www.jimthompsonhouse.com/ These last two may be of more interest to you than to your friend. Which brings me to a suggestion: offer him a day off to go off on his own and leave you to do the same. A whole week in Bangkok, and feeling obliged to keep you entertained may be quite stressful for him. Give him the chance of a break. On a similar note, do not assume that staying in a nice hotel and eating in good restaurants will be a treat for him. He may actually find that stressful as well, if he feels out of place there. Watch out for signs of that, and be kind. Let him choose where to eat sometimes and don't be surprised if it is a food court or street stall.

That would be great! Thank you! I think even with three weeks to explore there will still be much more to discover! Send me a message when you get back and we can plan something out. Also, I do think that there’s such a rush or thrill rather when it comes to the idea of offing boys.

  8. The oddity can be explained by the use of "yield management" (aka: yield control), a practice that has been in universal use in the hotel and airline industries for decades. The objective is to fill all seats on an a flight and all rooms in a hotel by attracting buyers at different price points. The discretionary buyer (most of us) can purchase tickets or reserve rooms well in advance so we get a good price. It solves the seller's need for cash flow and our need for a what we perceive as a bargain. But hotels in particular need to reach the widest audience and they are willing to pay third-party brokers (i.e., Agoda, Expedia) to list their availability. The brokers realize a commission (up to 20%) for finding buyers and handling the transaction. The price for the room or the airline ticket will fluctuate daily, even hourly as the management software attempts to keep attracting buyers. In addition, hotels grant certain categories of buyers (i.e., seniors, auto club members, locals) discounts off the rack rate. In addition to these practices, both hotels and airlines use consolidators who sell more deeply discounted rooms and seats without disclosing the name of the hotel or airline until the purchase is made. This article from Wikipedia sums it up fairly well: Yield management is a variable pricing strategy, based on understanding, anticipating and influencing consumer behavior in order to maximize revenue or profits from a fixed, time-limited resource (such as airline seats or hotel room reservations or advertising inventory). As a specific, inventory-focused branch of revenue management, yield management involves strategic control of inventory to sell the right product to the right customer at the right time for the right price. This process can result in price discrimination, in which customers consuming identical goods or services are charged different prices. Yield management is a large revenue generator for several major industries; Robert Crandall, former Chairman and CEO of American Airlines, gave yield management its name and has called it "the single most important technical development in transportation management since we entered deregulation.

  9. My roommate is 92yo, well educated, well traveled. He is multi-lingual. He has never married. He is into health and cooking and classical music.. He is an agnostic. There is a middle aged married couple (m/f) who often visit him. Recently the woman told him that "his friend _____ (male name)" had called them. But then corrected herself saying "Your partner ___" had called them. Last night he was watching a movie and thought Steve Reeves the body builder was in it but could not identify him. I looked the movie up on the imdb and it was not Steve Reeves that were in the opening credits but rather an actor named Steve Reevis. We have discussed famous gays in history and in Hollywood. Only thing is he was born in Iran and according to the country's former President there are no gay Iranians. ;-)))

Have you watched the movie Bohemian Rhapsody? It is about the rock group Queen and primarily about the life of Freddy Mercury, the lead singer. While I enjoyed Queen's music I was not into them as much as some other rock groups. I should have given them more attention. This afternoon I watched this movie and I encourage you to do so. I really enjoyed it. Call me a pussy but I cried toward the end. Give it a spin.

  11. Boys playing on their phones whilst in bed with you - I definitely don’t like this. One night after sex I was ready for sleep - it was about 1 am. I always wake up around the same time as if I was back home - that is between 7 and 7.30, so I needed to get off to sleep. Initially it was 90% dark with only a little light from the bathroom door slightly ajar. Suddenly there was glare from his phone and when I looked over he was playing a game - I think candy crush. When I protested he was offended and said it was too early for him to sleep. The night finished with me telling him to go which he did. You gave to realise they live nocturnal lives and their body clocks reflect this causing problems like the one I describe.

  12. Lord, so much. First, while I have been to Rio it was only once. When I take long trips I prefer Bangkok to which I have been 32 times. I will be celebrating my 70th this December in Santo Domingo. I go to the the island, at least, 4 times a year and have done so for 35 years. I once started counting trips and stopped at 130, having grown bored with the idea . Still, I do not claim expertise just experience. I started going to Santo. Domingo when El Conde was the Main Street in town. If you can imagine a narrow colonial street filled with cars, bumper to bumper.. as a Main Street. All those malls and highways and big avenues are new. In those days there were two operating male whore house hotels in the Colonial zone. The boys were self employed but were always there. Self contained restaurant, bar. I enjoyed that world until the places were closed down by the bitter, rabidly homophobic old queen of a Cardinal who has recently been, reportedly, forced to retire by the Pope. He was/is a horror of bigotry. All the talk about where one has stayed, the color of one's skin, matters of age, walking alone are not factual components of good advice regarding Santo Domingo. Atlanta? Sure, Atlanta has a black community. As I've written here before Dominicans consider themselves Spanish in a mixed race society. Discrimination may come from your skin but danger is a matter of what you have and what someone needs. Thinking that you are in an Atlanta like society is foolish and does not reflect Dominican reality; your skin color has nothing to do with safety. The minimum monthly wage is around $200 ( depending on size of employer ) no one really has a true unemployment rate and typical person is working 12 hour shifts. Poverty is very real my boyfriend is white and very poor. Those who give this advice are falling for the old logical fallacy called, " results bias". Because you have not been robbed, attacked, knifed - does not mean the streets are safe. ANY DOMINICAN can tell you they are not. Solacesoul is quite right. The only safe ATM in the colonial Zone , after the markets close, is the bank across from Independence park. It's indoor with a guard. To think otherwise is to fly in the face of crime statistics and the obvious need for special police in the Colonial Zone. They are better trained and better paid so they are less corrupt. When the main hustler bar "friends" was open drivers like the infamous but trustworthy Freddy, were always outside BECAUSE there were too many muggings at the end of the street right in the zone. All of us came by taxi or walked in groups - white black - Asian?? Does not matter - relative safety is in numbers. There is only one beach in the capital called Guibia. It was developed for the common people and is well patrolled but it is not a tourist place. Why anyone would be at Boca Chica late at night is beyond me. If you're safe it is because no one is there. Safety is relative, you are safer in the Colonial zone than most places but parks, side streets, places ill light and without people moving about????? No, it is not safe and any Dominican would tell you this. But, God yes, you can be safe you can exercise common sense but if you act foolish you might well contribute to the crime statistics . Most tourists are safe because reasonable people do exercise common sense precautions. I mean no offense Kevin 770 but I suspect you do too. Even if you bluster a bit about it - even black tourist's travel in groups more often than not. I remember a group from NYC who always came down, always rented a big van and travelled around - with their boys. One night, as every night, they pulled up to friends bar ( might have been Freddy's or Phoenix the names changed over the years ) and someone with a poor sense of propriety called out to the owner, Lawrence, "the African Queen has docked..." He was heard and the answering shout was, " damn right! My Mama raised no fool" I rush to add that this sense of safety is not reserved to black tourists - I sometimes travel with NYC friend who is Venezuelan by heritage - as white as I - who insists he is safer because he "looks Hispanic" - I always suggest he stay out of dark places so the muggers can see...........

  13. Those are signs of poor management, ESPECIALLY at these small properties. My "claim to fame" as a hotel GM was raising guest satisfaction scores and REVPAR (revenue per available room)...whereas many managers concentrate on ADR (average daily rate). Also because of my management style, reduced employee turnover...happy employees = happy guests (normally) Many employees are lazy and find it easier to say, book on Agoda, Expedia, etc... than to do the actual work or look for a manager to approve the lower rate. On average is a 20 % commision and waiting 45-60 days to get paid, front line employees don't care, however, a manager should.....I sake my head when a manager declines to honor the lower rate and says book online, smh

  14. My observations would be that even a younger (or younger-appearing) gringo would not be safe roaming around alone at night in certain areas of the Santo Domingo and the DR. I think what you’re suggesting might be poor advice for the less well-traveled. There are areas in SD like Naco that are like the Dominican Beverly Hills. There are also plenty other areas, especially in SD Este, where going alone and roaming around at night would be AYOR. Again, this is NOT appropriate advice to dispense to readers who are unfamiliar with the city or the island. I would agree that a black man of any age walking around at night in a predominantly black neighborhood south of Grant Park in Atlanta, during pre-gentrification, would not be very problematic at all. However, most readers here aren’t black men in their late 20s (or aren’t even purporting to be). So, their levels of risk — whether real or perceived — would be different from yours. After all, there are posters here who think it’s a grand idea to dress like a New England preppy and flash $5000 watches in the Colonial Zone! You have stated in the past that the rewards of the prison sex trips for you outweighed the risks, and that you also take the risk to get cocaine from locals in foreign countries — so clearly, your levels of risk-taking might be higher than the average reader or traveler here. Just to let you know, even my Dominicano amigos who roll around the city carry pistols for protection. BTW, there is a good reason that those “loud black queens” at Pacos that you discussed in earlier posts are always in a gaggle together. It’s because, even for them, there is safety in numbers. For those of us who often travel solo, we may need to be more circumspect. This isn’t meant to be a personal attack on you at all, in spite of how you may receive it. It’s that, as you said, we clearly have different perspectives and assessments of risk. I’d love to hear the perspective of someone like @paborn on this.

  15. If you're up for it, you can have a lot of fun at Siam Park City waterpark one day. Get wet With the new Blue Line MRT stations opening up, good old fashioned urban exploration is a bit easier for Chinatown/Old Town now. Also in the other direction entirely you can now get to the Erawan Museum by BTS. It's reasonably interesting and some nice photo ops. If your guy is even a little bit Buddhist he will usually appreciate a visit to Wat Saket/Golden Mount. Also, a selfie-worthy chance to make merit feeding the fishes at one of the river piers is always good and much appreciated. Oct. 13 is Ok Phansa (end of lent). Good day to make merit at a temple. There's a better-than-o.k. Thai restaurant called Steve Cafe & Cuisine by the river near Thewet Pier. Easy to get to by boat and then a short confusing walk, and there's a lovely nearby temple and cute little market so a nice opportunity to take a river boat and explore and have a good lunch. Steve Depending on when you're in BKK, there may be activities related to the Royal Barge Procession. The Charoenkrung Creative District gets better and more interesting every day. Lots of shops and galleries and especially cafes and restaurants to explore. Highly recommended. I enjoy Thai cooking classes as a fun daytime activity. It depends on how comfortable you and your guy are in a group activity. I really highly recommend Cooking With Poo & Friends. Poo

Ask your friend if he has any ideas, he will probably appreciate you asking his advice. Consider hiring Mac at Siam Roads for a day and ask him to plan a day for you away from the normal tourist sights. (my friend, a lady, used him for 2 days back in November and was very complementary about him) I would stay overnight in Kanchanaburi so you are not rushing things - take a trip on the river in your own small boat. If you are tempted by a trip to an Elephant camp do NOT take the cheaper options go to one that does not allow riding. I highly recommend Good Times Resort on the river

In bangkok itself, the new mall iconsiam would be great too. Some night, i like to go to jazz bar, or other thai bars that have live show. U can google the highly rated one from the many review sites to have some ideas.

Yup. As z909 pointed out, we arent staying in bangkok, but having experience super long queue at certain stations to buy tickets, i can certainly see the appeal of not having to queue. However, if ill be using more than 4 times (average of 40baht per ride) id be buying the unlimited daily card instead for 140, while rabbit card provided no discount afaik.

Well, I live in BKK and would be happy to take you around, including all the other gay options outside the gogo bars, like Silom Soi 4 and DJ Station and G.O.D..... Alas, I'm not there now and not back until Sept. 20th, with the possibility of that date being pushed back even further by some days. So looks like you'll have to explore at least the first 3 weeks on your own or with the help of some other member here. But I'm sure you'll manage haha. Besides, as Boy69 pointed out, at your age free sex should be available to you any time unless, how should I phrase it, your body type is a potential obstacle. but then again, even if you are drop-dead gorgeous, there is nothing wrong to off boys from the bars if that gives you a thrill. Esteemed forum member numazu falls in that category of young-and-easy-to-hook-up-but-still-offing-boys-kind-of-guy, for example.

  31. I’m one of those “high maintenance “ Americans. Courtyard is about as low as I’ll go . I’ve never stayed at any of the hotels that are talked about in these posts, other than the Tarntawan many years ago. For the last five years I’ve been staying in condos. In the end they are cheaper than even the low end hotels mentioned here. Much quieter, much cheaper and never any issues taking people home with you.

  33. I checked out from my airbnb this morning. Right now I am at my sister's home. I am exhausted, my flight back home leaves tomorrow night. Let me briefly report the few things I have to share since I left this log, last Thursday. That night, I had my second meeting with Fran. It was even better than the first one. This boy is amazing, my first Argentinean crush in a long time, as I have been absorbed by immigrants to Buenos Aires. I cannot recommend him enough, almost at the heights of Italo Andrade, both lovers I will not forget about. And that is a lot to say considering my bad memory and my slutty ways. On Friday, "Angel" came over to make up for our lost appointment Wednesday night. He stayed with me until Sunday. I have not had this much sex in a long time, and had to use some of my Viagra (I do my shopping here, it is much cheaper) to satisfy this boy. It was hot. He likes role playing, we played a lot with our age difference, acting up pervert grampa situations. However, my favorite one was the pimp scene. Knowing he is an escort really drives me crazy. On Saturday night we ran out of weed. I had almost no cash and did not want to pay again the fee for withdrawing from an ATM. "Angel" left to service one of his clients, and with the money he got we looked for weed in Grindr. This whole situation was smoking hot. Needless to say, I did not go to KM ZERO or anywhere else. Meeting him was great, it rejuvenated me and made me feel a way that I have not in many, many years. 48 hours of free sex and romance with a 25 years old hottie is something that has not happened to me in a long time. Unfortunately, my adventures are over. Actually, I am tired and ready to go back home. I need to recover strength to meeting my room mate in DC, he has been teasing me through WhatsApp. This entry is probably my last one in this thread, I need to get to work on my blog. Next trip? I have not yet made my mind. I have been very much tempted with Santo Domingo, but I think it is a better match for a bottom than it is for me. Right now the two strongest contenders are Colombia and Brazil. Perhaps Barcelona? Let's see.

    Republicans and racism

And I'm sort of disappointed no progressive anti-war candidate, Bernie or otherwise, has really gotten the groundswell of support it will take to wrest the nomination away from the DNC's chosen Kamala and go on to defeat Trump. From a moral standpoint I could never support the number of brown people Kamala or Buttigieg would murder as puppets of AIPAC and Biden is a totally bought-and-paid-for puppet of China. As awful and vile as Trump is, so far he hasn't started any foreign invasions, while I'm sure there would be a lot of extra dead Syrians if Hillary had won. A million dead Iraqis made her smile and destroying Libya made her laugh. I know they're brown people and we're supposed to get used to killing them in masse but for some of us genocide is not a factor, it's a total disqualifier. I've never voted GOP in my life but any of those 3 would make me at least stay home like Hillary did. I think the DNC again underestimates how many Democrats will walk to stop genocide.
