I have read the reports here. I have seen the photos here. But, still hard to believe until you see in person. I came to Bangkok in 2002 and this was the first place I visited and I fell in love with the area. Seeing things all boarded up and gone was a bit sad. The end of an era has now come. Walk out one door with 100 boys on stage and into another with the same. Paradise! Now, it will be more spread out and a bit of a hike (5 minutes) from one area to another. Some are moving next to each other while others are still trying to find venues. I don't get into this area too often but wanted to go in this weekend to say goodbye to this old friend. This truly was one of the most amazing streets on earth and it will never be replicated anywhere. It is just not possible to do. Now, don't think for one moment that this means the boys are gone. It was so sad to see last night, the night of their anniversary, the performers and staff of Strangers sitting outside the closed bar for photos clutching anniversary bouquets. Strangers is a VERY popular drag show bar with shows every night. I fear they will have no work for a while yet. What happened? Early yesterday evening, before opening, smoke was seen billowing from the bar. Staff from other bars tried to enter with fire extinguishers but there was too much smoke. Not too long later the fire truck arrived with lots of firemen (and one fire-woman). A lot of excitement as they went in in gas masks and paraphernalia. Then after a while they took a powerful water drenching machine in. Completely doused the place and eventually left. At no time were there any flames to be seen and it looks like it might have been an electrical fault (only my guess due to the amount of lighting and audio equipment in there). Thankfully there was no sign of anyone being injured. Eventually several high hatted Bangrak policemen arrived and retired to upstairs in Telephone for what reason I know not. So last night, the bar was in darkness and cordoned off. I repeat again my sympathies to all the staff and management and hope that they are soon back in business.

Saturday, weather was amazing....sunny....more people on the beaches...nowhere what it looked like back in January... No eye candy all over the place... Got some sun...an amazing massage... Went to lunch with my friend in IIha da Gigoia....An island favela in Barra for middle and upper class Cariocas....beautiful, remote but right in Barra...some expensive restaurants there... After seafood, shrimp, drinks and feijoada balls, we walked the island..which didn't take long...the island was clean, modern and very tight community wise... Came back to Copa and headed to the sauna....got there about 7... Had a drink...looked around...not as crowded as Friday but definitely a nice crowd in the indoor sitting room..the patio was not full at all but maybe 40 guys and 30 clients... The first two guys both quoted rates I wasnt willing to pay....2nd one came back around...glad he did.. Pointe 202 Saturday In order to meet a friend and to finally meet V. I went to Pointe. Normally during the week end I never go to Pointe. Further to the Phare Circus (full name: Phare Ponleu Selpak). I've been to the Battambang campus. There's a big top there, too, where scheduled shows are performed, but which is also used for training. In addition, the grounds feature an art gallery and a small, basic café where visitors can get a drink or a simple meal before the show. More importantly, there's a full-fledged school teaching regular subjects in addition to the specialized subjects of performance, music and art. As far as I can tell, the whole outfit is a legitimate social enterprise doing good work for the Battambang community on a non-profit basis. I'm a fan and I highly recommend catching a show in Siem Reap, Battambang, or both. On another note, this is my first post on this forum. Back in the day, I was on the Ting Tong forum as "gemein."
