I am satisfied with the idea of not necessarily returning because this is my second visit I deem a success and I prefer to focus on other destinations. Having a dedicated hotel thread, I'd like to throw in some new (to me) discoveries: 1. also in Silom Soi 3, essentially next door to Baan Silom, is a new very nice looking boutique hotel called Kessara. It is in a wooden house that looks more like a large family home than a hotel. Seems to be on the slightly pricier side in the 3k range, but probably well worth it. 2. with famous hotel-hopper @vinapu in mind the brand new T2 Residence Sathorn in Suan Phlu Soi 6 might be an option to consider for some not minding the distance to Silom/Surawong/BTS. Rooms are smallish, but adequate, modern and being new of course spotless. Cheap in the 1k range. A friend stayed there recently, so I had a chance to see the rooms personally (rather than just internet pics). They even have a tiny swimming pool!! And special feature: it is basically directly opposite Prince massage 3. I think I had a third one I wanted to post here, but forgot.... if it comes back to me I'll add it

We are thinking of phones in a completely different way that the "boys" there. For them it is not the utility but the status of having the latest and greatest. I have been there before. I have given a variety of gifts to boys with whom I have spent time with in Pattaya. In some places, I find a good hotel at first try, others I have to shop around and take a different hotel every time I stay in that town. Safe is not important to me. My pet peeve is lack of space to put stuff on in bathroom. I prefer bathroom sink in a tiled table. In some hotels, there is nowhere to put my stuff. The sink itself is curved and will be wet. Tray under mirror often curved. Lid of water reservoir for toilet curved, and if something slides it might end in the toilet! Joiner fee is a scam they run in touristy places. In the provinces, I even brought two boys to stay overnight in a double bed room without problems.

Definitely the best bar in Pattaya for twinks with bodies shaped by going to the gym. Always a large selection of boys. Best time to visit is 21-23. After midnight usually not so many boys because the freelancers only work during the most busy hours, and also high numbers of offs. Because expensive prices, 240 for drinks and 500 off-fee and the boys asking for 1500 (which normaly can be bargained down to 1000-1200), most times I just use the bar for looking whats on display and then contact the boys on Hornet or Blued.

I think the small watering hole was run by one of the mamasans from the old Solid Bar which ran for a few years on the corner close to the Mango Tree restaurant. For a while one of his regular boys helped out at that bar but whenever I walked past or stopped by for a drink, there was rarely another customer. How he kept going, goodness only knows! Solid had its attractions and was a fun place for a drink and an off for those who enjoyed it. But it was not an all-out gogo bar and its clientele was small. Another different kind of bar which some may recall was X-treme Bar on the second floor of one of the Twilight shops (was it where Bonny Massage eventually materialized?) X-treme had the usual bunch of gogo boys but it’s main entertainment was provided by real young dancers who gave a great 30 minute show twice a night. No nudity but these boys were cracking dancers, the choreography was good, often titillating and the boys themselves always great fun. It was run by an unusual figure who had either been a member of the clergy of the Church of England or whose work was related to the Church. A true surprise and delight yesterday. I was celebrating with friends and they wanted to try an authentic Greek restaurant in Bangkok. I was leery but went. I am so glad I did. The place was delightful. The food was amazing and the prices reasonable. It quickly became one of my favorite places in Bangkok. The baked Feta was amazing and the kabobs were incredible. We sampled 10 or so dishes together and every one of them was fantastic. BenG1000, there are several countries such as India and Egypt where I follow your Bali routine of no raw food, no fish, no unpeeled fruit, only bottled sparkling mineral water (as it is more difficult for a faker to re-use a bottle and replicate sparkling water) etc. Thailand is not on the list. In fact it is the only country in which I will eat street food. Yes, this is pretty conservative, but I don't have time to be sick. I do not drink the tap water, but I have been known to forget and brush my teeth with it and I am also not all that worried about getting water in my mouth when I shower. So far no ill effects. Ice I am ok with in a cocktail at a high end bar - no ill effects so far. Otherwise - eg ice in a smoothie in a market or on the street - no. Whether I need to be this careful in Bangkok I am not sure, it may just be habitual when traveling. I have only been sick from food once in Thailand, from a fish lunch in Pattaya, and even that was pretty mild on the stomach upset scale. Bangkok has a huge range of food options, from street food to Michelin Starred restaurants, and covering a wide range of cuisines. I recommend you explore the various options for Thai food. Beside avoiding things, I take two precautions when traveling. The first few days I always eat a local natural yoghurt with breakfast. I was told years ago that this helps to get 'good' local bugs into your stomach and helps it to adjust to local food. I rarely have stomach problems when traveling, so maybe this works. I also carry Pepto Bismol tablets just in case.

I'm going to chime in although it has been a few years since my last visit. If you do your homework and know what areas not to frequent , when to take a taxi rather than bus or underground etc etc . It is unlikely you will have a problem. I made sure I left watches and jewelry home . But it is a completely different animal from Thailand. Those who like GoGo Bars etc will be disappointed . Certainly in Rio the major places for Sex are the Saunas . Not sure I would use online meets unless the boy/man was known to me or a friend . I do remember the advice not to use ATM's except in well lighted and more upscale areas which I followed carefully. Of course for some visiting a country ,there are lots of other things to do other than pay for Sex. Fabulous beaches, sightseeing of all kinds and great restaurants. Also if you like Big Dicks then Rio is for you. IT would be hard to find ( but not impossible) what is normal in Brazil anywhere in Thailand.
