A true surprise and delight yesterday. I was celebrating with friends and they wanted to try an authentic Greek restaurant in Bangkok. I was leery but went. I am so glad I did. The place was delightful. The food was amazing and the prices reasonable. It quickly became one of my favorite places in Bangkok. The baked Feta was amazing and the kabobs were incredible. We sampled 10 or so dishes together and every one of them was fantastic. I'd like to repeat that I have nothing against you, but i wanna use your experience to tell people to don't do anything you did...Many people need to watch less Rambo movies, cause shit here in Brazil happens even to people living here from when they were born. Experience has nothing to do and doesn't make you bulletproof. And unexperienced people as much as the experienced ones often tend to underestimate the risks and to misjudge situations. Like the 25 yrs old MMA fighter who some months ago reacted to an assault got shot in the head by the older friend of the flip-flop wearing 16 yrs old thief in Tijuca who was keeping the situation under control and who came from around the corner to save his friend from the beatdown he was receiving. That's why most of the people won't help you if you get mugged. Most of the people would never risk to get shot to save a gringo from losing his DSLR camera or iPhone, there are too many weapons and too many people willing to kill you for no reasons in Brazil...bad combination.

Hey guys. It's my first time to BA. I've been to Rio - loved it - and found my way to 117, 202, etc. BA doesn't get all that much play here, so I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions for: what area to stay in where there are cafes, restaurants where cute gay guys (not garatos) hang out, just for eye candy purposes. Also, in what area - I'm assuming the same - would there be more boys strolling around? gay gym - I think the Megatlon chain might have a gay crowd, but which one(s)? Any other gym suggestions? a modestly priced hotel/apartment in that neighborhood? and, last but not least, muscle guys for hire - yes, specifically muscle men, big bodybuilders most preferred. I've seen soytuyo and some of the other sites, but I didn't see any really competitive bodybuilder types (ripped fitness model types also do it for me). I realize that there's nothing in BA like the Rio saunas, so any advice would be most appreciated - if anyone knows anyone in particular, please by all means send me a private message with contact info. To each his own, but I have to disagree. I find all races and ethnicities to have beauties among them. HK is a great world city - and my experience has been that I end up needing a neck massage after walking around because I see so many stunning Asian men. I'm not vouching for the sexual vibe, just the abundance of beautiful men.

This is the key or main point of his reporting the event. A busy area does not guaranty safety from muggers! Street people/muggers know they can likely do their deed almost anywhere and at any time without being hindered. Unfortunately, muggings have increased in Brazil, mainly because of the poor economy. Many local citizens are without work (and without money) because there are too few jobs available. People need money to eat and to pay rent for themselves and for their family. Mugging someone on the street is a fast way to get money when there is no work or paycheck. Just remember this and be cautious without being paranoid.

The other sections of this forum are so full of reports of people getting mugged in London, NYC, Prague... The fact that it's a so beautiful country doesn't reduce the risks... I just got back from another visit to Bali. No problems. I brush my teeth, shower, have ice in drinks, always eat the green (same as BKK and pretty much everywhere). No worries. But I do think this is an area where different people have very different tolerances, and I have the gullet of turkey vulture (apparently). Of course if there is even a slight chance you are susceptible to these sorts of problems, then by all means avoid the anxiety and play it safe. But for regular folks I think it's ok to brush your teeth and shower without worrying too much. Most (but not all) bars and restaurants now get their ice delivered and it's perfectly safe. If you want to eat some authentic Isaan food, I'll make my usual pitch for Somtum Der on Saladaeng. All very hygenic, but not blandized like some restaurants that cater to tourists. The only issue vis a vis your digestion will be how hot and spicy you can take your food. Street food is definitely cheaper than here, but you get a/c and don't have to worry about the other stuff. There are also lots of good choices to be had at the food courts in the malls, and as far as I know should be safe to eat -- as long as you follow the usual rules of going to places that are popular and have good turnover of the food. Gourmet Market in Siam Paragon has a very nice salad bar.

I enjoyed my visit to Dalat even though it was much noisier and bustling than I expected it to be. Much cooler up there in the mountains. Pretty flowers all over. One awesome waterfall complex.

Maybe part of his appeal is that he can't be painted as a bull goose left loony like Ocasio-Cortez. Of couse, it didn't hurt that he ran his Texas campaign against a creepy whack job of a troll. Come to think of it, maybe that would be just the right model for a campaign against Trump. And it doesn't hurt that he's kinda cute.

Please credit me with some sense ! They were wearing flip flops and shorts and nothing else and if I wasn't sure if the situation I would have reacted differently ! I have lived all over the world and spend 48 weeks of the year travelling to wild and wacky places for work and more than capable of judging a situation thanks. I'm going to chime in although it has been a few years since my last visit. If you do your homework and know what areas not to frequent , when to take a taxi rather than bus or underground etc etc . It is unlikely you will have a problem. I made sure I left watches and jewelry home . But it is a completely different animal from Thailand. Those who like GoGo Bars etc will be disappointed . Certainly in Rio the major places for Sex are the Saunas . Not sure I would use online meets unless the boy/man was known to me or a friend . I do remember the advice not to use ATM's except in well lighted and more upscale areas which I followed carefully. Of course for some visiting a country ,there are lots of other things to do other than pay for Sex. Fabulous beaches, sightseeing of all kinds and great restaurants. Also if you like Big Dicks then Rio is for you. IT would be hard to find ( but not impossible) what is normal in Brazil anywhere in Thailand. A decent and safe area Hotel will definitely be more expensive than Thailand . There are many reasonable and great restaurants in Rio along with cheaper alternatives where the food is still wonderful. I know Michael will disagree with me but if you are into twinks , don't bother . Of course there are some but they are in the minority . It is one of the most beautiful places on earth and for anyone who loves to travel, it should be on your bucket list. I'll say it again if anyone has the itch then spend some time on boytoy.com where there are great members who love the country and are more than willing to help you in any way.

That's quite a knock on gay men. Anyone who lived through the AIDS crisis saw the vast generosity of the gay and lesbian community. We see it still today in the support social programs receive.
