Merida Makes the NY Times
floridarob and one other reacted to Lucky for a topic
With the advent of sophisticated travelers like Tomcal and floridarob, the NY Times jumps on the Merida bandwagon with a lengthy feature piece in today's Travel section: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/25/travel/shaped-by-meridas-artistic-soul.html The article is the front page, featured piece for today's section, and is chock full of pictures and valuable information. Did floridarob and Tomcal know that they were pioneers in the new Merida? Or is it because of them that Merida has a new Merida?2 points -
It's a longer route, requiring more fuel. Some planes can make the longer route, some have to make stops to refuel which some airlines decided to do. Thai might not have the planes, might not have ground ops for a stop-over or plain doesn't want to pay for it...2 points

To answer your question, 20 Baht/drink for waiters. Boys who spend time with you, minimum 100 Baht. Mamasans, up to you, but many tip nothing unless the mamasan was helpful to you.2 points

Well after 6 years I’m back in Rio and what a 2 weeks it’s been so far. club 117 remains the best the hottest and the horniest spot on the planet I’ve been there 6 nights a week for 2 weeks and wow just wow. I love that 99% of the guys are as straight as you can be when you have gay sex for a living ! There is muscle there is twink there is Black as the dark of night and blonde as a swede and of course your typical Latino and they are all so lovely. They kiss they suck and some even deep throat, they fuck like their life depends on it and most make you feel ( at the time) they love you. I have found a great guy who will happily get fucked for his pay check and he’s a fit number and he runs off to find other guys that suit my taste and are also up to get fucked and we all take turns at the front back and middle ! Beef sandwiches are my thing. Sundays are relatively quiet, Monday’s closed and Tuesdays wall to wall as there is no charge for cabins so there are more customers which brings MORE BOYS. I’ve been eating my way through 3 a night and one night 4...... they will come and sit and chat for ages and after aren’t in a rush and to run off and are happy to snuggle up for a bit on a sofa. As always agree what they will and won’t do as I had one who said he was versatile and then changed his mind when I told the other guy to fuck him so the other boy got him gone, it was part of the deal so there was no problem. If your main reason to visit Rio is for sex you will find it and every kind of guy in 117 and in abundance ! Don’t be shy ask for what you want and they will let you know if it’s possible, they don’t mind it’s their job. I stay 4 minutes walk away in a reasonable hotel called the Diamaond and you can have visitors for R50 for the night but always be careful who you invite but they do have to register at reception so there is some safety net not that I’ve had a problem. Grindr is also hot but had a let down when a not so hot guy arrived with not such a big cock, must have been using his brothers pictures lol. I have another month in Brazil and I’m exhausted already. happy hunting guys1 point

For the last seven years, I have been going to Pattaya directly from BKK and have lost touch with things in Bangkok. Dreamboys was my favorite bar, high quality and well run. No one seems to mention it anymore. Does anyone have an update?1 point

There's another issue here which no one seems to have picked up on. Thai notes bear the image of the king and any form of disrespect towards that image can be construed as lese majeste. People have been arrested for accidentally stepping on his image and there was one incident where a drunken farang threw his change on the bar floor and stepped on it because he was upset about one thing or other and was sent to prison for it. I know these are extreme cases but it doesn't hurt to be mindful of these things especially in the current political climate.1 point

Yes we can talk about cultural, ethnicity, race etc. Bottom line Most Thal's as Christian PFC used the term do not stop learning at the age of 12-15. It is a ridiculous assertion that clearly in my mind is racist. Best dentist I ever had and I've had a few was in Pattaya and all his children were sent to the best Uninversaties in Great Britain. They were lucky !!! Just like some the best Doctors I have experienced were in Bumrungrad in BKK. Unfortunately many, even most of the boys we hire for Sex have not in most cases been lucky enough to attend good schools and Universities . But many in the country have and they represent a cross section of all types of vocations in Thailand. Is it true that the education system in Thailand could be much better . Of course it is , just like the education system in many big cities in the US could be better. Does that mean mental development stops at age 13-15. Of course not ! And I see no other way to interpret it then being racist or just plain thinking that Thai people are stupid. Of course these are the same stupid boys that Christian loves to pay at the bottom of accepted pay scale and probably below when he can get away with it.. I think the overwhelming % of members here respect the Thai People and in many case warm liaisons are made between them and I don't think many members think the boys they pay for sex are stupid . If they do I feel sorry for them.1 point

Well said and it's why free and accessible schooling is so important ( by accessible I'd don't mean an escalator but rather proximity, when one travels in 3rd world countries children walking distances to and from school can be seen on the roads )1 point

That somehow you want to twist what I said into your racist attitude pisses me off. Ridiculous , it is exactly what racists would try to say about African Americans in my country. How is it all the fine Doctors, Dentists , Lawyers , Business Owners etc in Thailand did not cease to have mental development at the age of 15. Opportunity is the main ingredient for mental development. Apparently your luck of the draw did not do anything for yours!1 point

Automatic translation sometimes gives good results, in other occasions is useless. You have to consider that it works poorly for slang, and that's what most posts on facebook or online dating are. But for clear pronunciation / correct writing and standard language, results are good. A recent example: I was in Central Plaza Westgate and got a message from a Thai who used online translation: Can you guess what it means? To me it's immediately obvious, as the Thai word for "class" (in a school or university) and "level/storey" (in a bulding) is the same. So he was asking me to come to 3rd floor toilet.1 point -
Ok I have a little more news. Over the weekend, Nicky was still allowed to be part of a big Songkran photoshoot with the other models. He will be suspended for the next few weeks and return to work right before the bar’s anniversary and Songkran festivities. Also they have added a number of new Vietnamese boys to the rotation. The bar has been packed every day for the 10.30 PM show, even yesterday, a Sunday.1 point

Pre paid credit card
ChristianPFC reacted to anddy for a topic
not 100% true. I had my BKK Bank debit card stolen once (by a random trick picked up at a (straight) night club, not a money boy even). After he left in the morning and before I could even notice and report the stolen card he went straight to a large Tesco Lotus and bought something for about 45k Baht (presumably an iphone or two), just within the limit on the card of 50k. So yes, money in a debit card CAN be stolen. It is easy as nobody EVER checks your identity (which is not possible and pointless anyway as that card doesn't even bear a name on it) or looks at the signature when using it.1 point -

I don't know about that but looking back at last dozen or so Christmases, birthdays etc, I can't recall a gift which I really found useful. Hence my anti-gift sentiment as I appreciate efforts and money spent by my friends on that gift hunting and still I'd rather had 1/3 of cash instead1 point -
Something Important to Remember
BL8gPt reacted to DivineMadman for a topic
Just for common courtesy/respect I always learn the basics - greetings, thank you, no thank you, how much, check please, etc. and a new word or phrase every day of travel - wherever I go. Now if I meet a guy from, for example, Myanmar, I can jokingly list the couple of Burmese words I remember. It's a nice respectful ice-breaker that always earns me a smile. I've found locals always appreciate the effort. Beyond that I think it's optional. Up to you. Certainly around Thailand there are still lots of guys making their way to Bangkok with very little or no english, so it helps expand the pool of available guys and makes it a tad bit easier to get them to do what you want. To this day I regret an episode that happened many years ago when I barely knew any Thai and I was out someplace where the guys had no english and it turned out the guy I was with was asking me if I was looking for a bottom when I thought he was asking me if I wanted to bottom. The one that got away! As you say, google translate is good even though sometimes very limited. But the effort actually to learn a language would most likely eclipse the number of times the problems with google translate really make a difference for the average guy.1 point -

treat him as adult and give him cash , don't make his life more complicated than it is already. That is general problem with gift giving - we tend to give what we want other person to have which is not necessarily exactly what that person wants to have1 point -
Pre paid credit card
ChristianPFC reacted to DivineMadman for a topic
I have not. It's certainly a wonderful thought. I don't want to sound pessimistic, I applaud your generous spirit. Just some random disassociated thoughts: -To be clear, we're not talking about a credit card, just a debit card that's visa/mastercard. Right? I can't even fathom how you would arrange to get him a true credit card issued over here. - I don't know where you would actually get your guy a free-standing no-bank-account cash pre-paid debit card over here in BKK. I don't think it's as common as say in the U.S. With luck others can help tell you where you could get a good one. I also recall that in the U.S. a lot of those sorts of cards came under heavy criticism from the consumer advocates b/c of high hidden fees. - Local banks offer debit cards for account holders at reasonable fees (k-bank is 100 for the card and 200 annual fee). If your guy doesn't have a bank account, encouraging him to set up and seed a bank account is a better first step. Thai guys and in my experience Laos and VN guys already have accounts, Cambodia & Myanmar more of a case-by-case basis. Their own network of friends would be the source for where to get an account. (I.e., I wouldn't walk in with your guy to the Bangkok Bank head office, not that you were thinking of doing that.). - if you're worried about a customer taking him someplace and him getting stranded, not sure a 10K card which he may or may not spend down beforehand is the answer. Much better to tell him that he should make sure that if it's a country any distance away he buys the r/t ticket himself. - As far as visiting other countries on his own or with friends, I think far better to trust your guy and his friends to know what they're doing. I know lots of guys who stopped school at 13-14 and travel to China, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, etc., (wherever there's money and men) all without cards. I'm impressed by these guys. Once they get the hang of travel they are feerless. Maybe we're all being a little paternalistic. Or as my woke niece never tires of telling me, "check your privilege". - Throughout SE Asia it is very easy to get by without a debit card or credit card. Buying tickets, paying bills, etc., can easily be done. And as Thailand moves towards a more cashless society, that move is not being made as a move towards plastic cards, but rather phone-based payment systems, kiosks, and Family Mart/7-11. Promptpay TrueMoney Line Pay and more I am sure. - If you're really concerned about the emergency situation, maybe a nice hand printed "If you are ever in a true emergency call me and I will send you up to 10K baht by western union" would do? - Giving a guy 10K but saying "only use for emergencies" might be too much to expect, and your emergencies might not be his emergencies. He might think his brother's upcoming school fees are an emergency, but you really meant something else. - If you got a savings bond from your grandparents, were you really happy? When you really wanted money for a new bike? If he's in his late 20s maybe the respectful thing is give the money and say I hope you use this for emergency savings. I recently had a heart-to-heart with a young cambodian friend about his medium-term goal for when he goes back home, and we talked about whether he can set money aside now, and he said he couldn't and didn't want to and right now he wanted to make his life better for his mom who did so much for his family, got up at 4:00 every morning etc., etc. I love that about these guys and it drives me crazy at the same time. But it is their heart and soul. - I believe the regional traditional way to save money for emergencies is gold. Maybe if you went with him and bought a nice gold chain he might hesitate to sell it as quickly as tap into cash. Just beware if he starts steering you towards the gold wedding bands.... So good for you. Lucky for him. And where were you when I was looking for a boyfriend?1 point -

Going Long Time - Experiences & Tips
1moRussian reacted to vinapu for a topic
If you have guy long time he may expect another round in the morning but yes, he will be looking for an enhanced tip. Nothing odd with your question but there are likely as many variations as guys and members. Some guys may lose interest as soon as deed is done according to famous saying ' you cum , I go" , others may like to hang out as long as possible including sleeping for half day. Most guy have less comfortable digs than our hotel rooms without fan or A/C so may use some comfort like in case described by Christian above. Some customers may prefer to sleep alone , other's like me rather have company till morning and even longer. Guy may have other daytime chores, client may have some sightseeing to do . Generally speaking better chemistry , better chances for longer encounter if that's important. Baht power speaks too so if extension is not volunteered perhaps it may be purchased - I did it few times but always when tip was paid and guy ready to go. " do you want to stay till 10 , I give you 1000 ? ". I like that undressing again part ! on another hand occasionally you may encounter greedy type who after collected his tip will even refuse extra good bye hug or kiss if you don't tip a bit more1 point -

Really, are we going back to that endless discussion of tipping? Frankly, if you can't afford to tip the staff you should stay at home. We are NOT - for the very last time - tipping in Australia or the Pacific Islands we are discussing go-go bars in Thailand. Christ, give it a rest.-1 points -

Wow, the truth must hurt. 1. Yes, I do participate. I'm merely expressing some exasperation at how little some want to tip kids in a third world economy. I find it shameful - but, up to you. 2. I never told anyone to stay at home if they don't meet US tipping standards. I said you should stay safely at home if you can't afford a decent tip and I made very clear that I was talking about the local Thai bars and a reasonable market rate tip. 3. We have been all over the idea of different cultures having different tipping practices. THE BARS DO NOT EXIST IN THOSE OTHER PLACES. THEY ARE IN THAILAND WERE IT IS CUSTOMARY TO TIP. This nonsense of US Cultural norms is nothing but a smokescreen to hide behind. The truth is some people are just to tight fisted to give a kid a fair and reasonable tip BY THAI STANDARDS.-1 points -

Exactly the sort of remark that makes me come back. Say big tippers and I'm fine. Your constant anti-American remarks need, however, to be challenged by the sane among us. I never said anything of the sort. I have consistently advocated for tipping in accordance with Thai practices. Thailand is a low tipping environment and I have never held otherwise. Whether I or others tip more generously should not concern you but the fact that many of you are too tight-fisted to tip a kid, at least a bare minimum, is a disgrace. Unlike the discussion of finding a market acceptable tip for off services, this thread is just about how to get away with stiffing young guys working in bars and bringing you drinks - shame on you. Trying to hid behind a dislike of my country is cowardice. Scooby, how about shutting this thread down before it gets worse?-1 points
