A couple of the mamasans at X-Boys (BKK) have definitely secured the title for most odious mamasans on Soi Twilight (formerly held by several over at Classic Boys). Nothing would surprise me about the mamasans at X-Boys, but some mamasans even at other bars will insist that the customer buy a drink for his cutie if the mamasans (or manager) think the customer and the guy are abusing the system. So if you regularly and repeatedly go sit with a regular guy(s) but slip a bigger cash tip instead of buying a drink, the mamasans may start insisting on buying drinks. (The old "Why buy a drink for 350 when I can just tip the guy 150 and we're all happy.") Obviously not buying the drinks is bad for the bar and not really the host bar "deal" so the boss or mamasan may try to police it - or at least get their share of the gold. But in my experience I think it has to be a repeat offender for this to happen. (Are you reading this Paulsf???). And if the mamasan thinks you are sitting too long with a guy without buying a drink he may start getting more pushy because it's also part of his job to make sure you are fair to the guy you're sitting with, and in that world that means you buy the guy a drink so he gets his 40 baht commission PLUS a tip for his time. Back to the original question - X-Boys is not doing all that well. The good news from the perspective of the guys who work there is that they have started paying the guys 300 baht a night, up from 250. There are signs outside advertising this and there's often a rather forlorn mamasan (usually the nice one) sitting at a table outside hoping to get some recruits. It's all a bit sad. That word I got got from a good friend who works there is that X-Boys had to raise what it was paying because business was so bad that guys were fleeing the bar. Speculation is that word got out among the customers, which means especially the Chinese customers, that the mamasans at X-Boys are horrible. Not all of them are so obnoxious, but the main two are just so horrible that they do really hurt business. The bad X-Boys mamasans also regularly play favorites and will steer customers to certain guys. Having said all that, there are some cute guys there and of course some customers most of the time. Some guys are very happy with the 300 a night, with a little less competition than Fresh Boys, and maybe a little more flexibility with nights off (for Hornet or Grindr customers) than they would get at Fresh Boys. And you only need one (or two on your birthday).

To add something on BBB Pattaya - a waiter told me 'second drink for 160 only (a customer drink; first was 350 if I am correct) - good move. The same 160 as in their Boys Music club. The bad move - again very pushy with a boy drink, bring them without asking the customer. I am still with "I'd better give 100 baht to the boy directly, then buying overpriced drink he will not drink finally' idea. We spent another 15 minutes in a bar waiting for a bill, sending the drink back, etc. And I surely got downgrade in the boy's eyes, hope giving him 100 baht later removed some downgrade (didn't helped eventually - the boy was sent back from my room). I understand they need to make their leaving, but I am more for kind of a ticket system (first drink is a kind of ticket, next ones are cheaper). And I am sure there is so big room for improving efficiency in Thai gogos costs management... By the way, on my second visit Boy Music has a better show - no drugqueens lipsinc, just B-boys (weaker then at the first visit), really nice athletic show and nice boys dancing show. To my surprise there were 'please give some tip to our artists' part only after B-boys. As their show was weak this day, I would tip more gladly the athletic team and the dancing team - if they had a pause for it

We are excited for you too and look forward to receiving a report on your visit. I will be particularly appreciative for any tips/updates as my next short work trip will be directly after Songkran and I will have two nights off for my own entertainment. I believe the Songkran special show will only be held on Songkran days, but likely you will benefit from some of the new choreography being worked into even the regular acts. Try to visit Moonlight between Friday-Sunday if you are able as some boys may take a few days off here and there on weekdays in preparation for a busy Songkran, but the bar is that pushing for full attendance over weekends.

I have been to every major city in Brazil and found beautiful twinks in each one. I like Rio for the variety and the saunas are the best to find them. I like Porto Alegre for the light skinned. I like Sao Paulo for the city and the ease of getting everywhere. Any city has good parts and bad parts. I tend to prefer Sao Paulo over the others as I like the NYC vibe. I like bars and restaurants and malls. I also like Salvadore and found some of the most amazing guys there but on the beach and not the bars.

Yes, screwboys was so packed on their christmas party night, i was seated, after waiting for a while, at the very back, on uncomfortable stool, near the bar, where mamasan and waiter keep passing by to take drinks etc. Still manage to get a boy, so all is fine. But once i get the boy, i dont want to stay in the bar any longer, partly due to smoke but its the uncomfortable seat is what i dont like. Same things with BBB in pattaya, that bar actually had full sign up the few days i was there, so u need to be early and get your seat. And there wont be room if u want to have a boy seating next to you unless u grab the boy earlier too. Still manage to get one boy, albeit for short time only.

I’ve only been the once but Moonlight was the most memorable for me and the air of professionalism made me much more comfortable as a newbie. Plus I’d say there’s a lot of people who are happy to stare at Babe and Co with no concern for offing and if they do want an off, the floor boys are as good or better than anywhere else I saw. Other bars couple replicate their success with better shows and a social media presence.

Which XBoys? Bangkok or Pattaya one? Sure you don't need to buy boy a drink but if you want talk to boy , whatever subject would be , it's part of bar liturgy to conduct conversation over a drink. Otherwise whole experience will be more like buying t-shirt on the market. Spend money on drink and you will have a chance to sense if guy is interesting in you or shiver anytime you will try to touch his knee or something. If you know boy already , than it's nothing wrong in calling him over , asking if he wants to go with you tonight and skip the drink part. Pushy mamasans are part of bar culture because their job is to generate offs and drink sales , our well being being their very distant concern, however shortsighted it may seem to be.

You’re overthinking it, as usual. You’re only paying for the initial introduction. Once you have the initial meeting, and you like the guy, after you pay the finders fee, you don’t have to pay the finders fee to see the guy again. Just pay the guy directly next time.

Sorry, I haven't been on here for a few days so only just saw this. I always find it a little embarrassing to rate my own looks, but I can say that I have always looked much younger. Now, I'm late forties and without fail when I meet someone new through life or work, they look shocked when I tell them my age and say something like "wow, I really thought you were early to mid thirties!" so I guess at 35 I probably looked like I was 28 or so. I've always worked out and when I was in Rio I was in close to the best shape of my life. A few of the actually gay sauna guys (because as we know most of them are gay4pay or bi) spoke with me and said "you know you don't need to come to saunas and pay for sex, you are hot enough to get any guy you want for free". I explained that I loved the thrill of the saunas and had no problem "helping" a guy out with some money lol. So, I hope that describes me a little, but I could add I have very, very blue eyes and I think South American guys really like that feature. It will work in the same way as in the US, maybe even more easily: Just find a guy that your girlfriend finds attractive, on the beach, in a bar or in a club, and see if he speaks a bit of English, and start a conversation. You can use love hotels for the action, they are in all the key spots. If you really want to chose a guy from clube 117, it should be just as easy, most guys are bi or straight, so fucking a 25 yo girl is probably going to be offered for free. Or for R$50, which is less than US$15, if you could pay for the flight, you can afford that.

Sorry you had a bad experience and thanks for posting this. Poorly trained masseurs (and yoga instructors) can be a real danger. Some of these guys say they learn by watching youtube videos. !!! These places with high turn-over (including Nakarat) just can't be training or recruiting qualified guys. At least that's my opinion, and why I usually steer clear. I recently had a massage at a very highly regarded place that boasts about training. A while back they had started a practice where if you are lying on your stomach they put a small rolled up towel right at the ankle (between ankle/top of the foot and the table). As a result the top of your foot isn't stretched out too much. My regular guy wasn't working and I had a different guy who clearly hadn't pay attention in class, so he put the support under my toes, which resulted in MORE strain. I would worry that what your guy did could injure your lower back. The choking bit was probably him attempting to give you some sort of a neck massage, but missing the point. I think lower back, knee or other joint risks it's 100% fair to give real-time feed back, but I'll admit I find that difficult. I am relatively tall (187) so even tables that have a face cutout usually don't work because my feet would hang over the end too far. That's why I was so pleasantly surprised by AEC - the new place on Suan Phlu. The tables are extra-wide and extra-long. I was able to use the face cut out and my feet didn't even reach the end of the table. It does seem the face cut out takes some pressure off neck and lower (back for me).

Thanks sglad. My trip has been delayed slightly but hoping to make the Pattaya visit around May/June now. Will report back when it takes place.

For Bangkok, I would go in July. The hotel prices are much better, it is low season but not rainy season, and the gay scene is still alive and well...not dull in the slightest. Plus plenty of boys available. I made a short trip last December and would not repeat that, hordes of tourists everywhere, boys are getting Lined non stop by Asian customers on their annual visit so they inflate their asking prices. On the plus side though it feels very festive and you have a good chance of meeting cute fellow tourists on apps and in clubs.
