AEC is a nice little massage shop that has just opened up on Suan Phlu. If you are walking from Sathorn it's in an a small alley on the right side opposite and just past the intersection with Soi 6. Here are the very real risks of this prison sex trip (as described to me by my contacts): getting blackmailed for more money by inmates or guards, getting busted and thrown in prison and possibly being blackmailed or extorted for release, getting busted for real or imaginary crimes and then having to call US Embassy for an assist, getting assaulted and no one there to help you, being locked in the prison when a prison riot breaks out. These evident risks are bolstered by the fact that none of my most trusted guides or contacts would agree to getting involved in the orchestration of the prison sex trip — one would only agree to driving there and back, but nothing else ;even though they all know Francisco personally). My guess (this is an educated guess based on my past and present conversations with contacts, not from personal experience) is that @Kevie770‘s prison experience went smoothly because it was a fairly sizable number of them going at the same time, as opposed to one or two — AND Also because Francisco somehow has a way of running interference there. I’ll let Kevie speak for himself, though, as I don’t know him. Francisco works in and around Paco’s. If no one here can give you a contact, you can find him there on most days. Hey Solace i think that the conditions of prisons in Latin countries is well known. The question is how safe would it be for one of us to go there and to have sex with an inmate. I think you are correct about the message I received being related to the State Department STEP program. Or, it was an offshoot of that program. I looked on the STEP site and much of the same information I received in my e-mail is in their site notice. Perhaps the State Department wants to be sure that travelers to Brazil are aware of the increased dangers. Like you, I also noticed that the prior year STEP notices did not go into much detail as did the current notice. No doubt, things in Brazil are not like they used to be. I will probably continue to travel to Brazil as I have done going on sixteen years with many trips during different parts of each year and to different Brazilian cities. Lately, walking around in Sao Paulo and in Rio, I noticed a major difference in many garotos. Many appear to be on some sort of drug and many appear to be "street people." Often I smell marijuana coming from a crowd of garotos. I have also seen some garotos using cocaine. These things likely are a major cause of the increase in street crime. Furthermore, I noticed more aggressive beggars who follow and harangue until they get money or something of value from whom they are harassing. I am a bit puzzled about the warnings to avoid public transportation. I have used Brazilian public transportation many times and have gone to various saunas over many years via metro and/or bus and never had a problem. Apparently, some visitors to Brazil had problems if there is a notification advising visitors to avoid public transportation. Walking the short distance to and from Club 117 in Rio to the metro is now apparently a "no no" as is the longer walk to Lagoa from the metro in Sao Paulo. I never had a problem walking those distances but I can see how one could be a victim between the sauna and the metro. I am not clear of the danger in taking a metro except for walking to the metro. I can understand the danger in the use of a bus. A mugger could enter a bus and rob people then exit without a problem. The danger between the two (metro vs bus) is not explained in the notice. The warning merely says to avoid public transportation. Bus or Metro = public transportation. With Bolsonaro now in charge, maybe he can reduce the increase in crime in Brazil. Now, wouldn't that be nice if he did that?

There is an old proverb that dates back to the 1,500s - the author was John Heywood of England. Among other musical and plays and books he wrote, he wrote "There are none so blind as those who will not see." Crime in Brazil is real and it is out of control. To say otherwise, is ignoring current and daily news reports and reality. To my knowledge, never before has the U.S. State Department gone into such detail about specific dangers in Brazil. Never before has the Brazilian news been filled, daily, with reporting street muggings and robberies and killings. Brazil's new president won his election on his promise to clean up corruption and crime in the streets. Just because travelers to Brazil have not yet had a problem, don't think it cannot happen to you. It was not my intention to report an incident that happened to me late last year. I felt reporting the incident in this forum would scare off many visitors to Brazil if I disclosed what happened to me. I did not want to negatively influence anyone to visit or not to visit Brazil. I got mugged on the street. During the mugging, I was injured and had to be returned to the U.S. via a private aircraft (paid for by my travel insurance provider). During the assault, I suffered two torn ligaments in my shoulder and damaged muscles in my shoulder. Needless to say the injuries were quite painful and debilitating. After the damaged shoulder muscles heal sufficiently, I must submit to surgery to repair two torn ligaments in my shoulder that are not knitting together as they should. A surgery date has not yet been set. The incident happened around 8:30 in the evening near one of my favorite restaurants. There were many people around but it happened anyway. Then the muggers fled after being interrupted. It so happened that the owner of the restaurant knows me and saw the incident happen. It was she who ran up to the muggers and started screaming at them which caused them to quickly leave. But damage had already been done. I had traveled to Brazil more than one hundred times without any danger coming to me. I was in denial for years and thought that robberies or muggings happened only to "other people" but not to me. But robberies and muggings do happen to anyone if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Despite my injuries, most of the pain is gone. I traveled to Brazil in January, this year. I just returned from Brazil last week. I expect to return again to Brazil next month. I must admit that I am more cautious while in Brazil than I was prior to the incident. I now use Uber and taxis more than I ever did prior to the incident. I also have to admit I am not as comfortable while out and about as I was prior to the mugging. Hopefully, the surgery to repair my torn ligaments will be a success and the mugging will merely be a learning lesson about an incident in Brazil. So, let all the confident people believe they are not subject to dangers while visiting Brazil. I wish you luck. In reality, one should assess their behavior while visiting Brazil. Without being overly cautious, visitors to Brazil should try to lessen the likelihood of encountering a street mugger, robber or worse. It is difficult to reach a happy medium in being cautious compared to being overly cautious. Time will eventually equalize that difficulty. Unquestionably, it is not always possible to avoid danger if you happen to be in the way when danger rears its ugly head. The pleasures of Brazil seem to outway the potential dangers. Just be careful and remember the potential dangers in order to stay less likely to become a statistic. Peace
