After a fun evening with Mr. Scewboy, truly a doll and finely made. Next morning I feast ( facetiously ) on the smallish breakfast at Tarntawan; Making a mental note that there is a large hotel across the street where I could buy a better breakfast. Perhaps next trip, the omelet is not that bad. This day is dedicated to the newish Ganymede spa recommended by the estimable Divine Madman. To get there I use my new T-mobile phone and data plan ( recommended to me by this board ) and make my first use of Grab, recommended by Paulsf. Where would I be without everyone's help? Grab works fantastically well. Not only is it easy to use, charges to your credit card removing the need for the driver to have changed and it provides the driver with a google maps set of directions. Behind me are the days when I would ask for the "Grand Palace" and be taken to the Royal Palace. Being forced to tell the driver that I was "alas, not dining with the King" will no longer be a source of embarrassment. Ganymede is located on a soi before a resort and is gated. The driver followed along carefully and found it. I believe this would not have been as seamless without the app. I have no Thai and invite you to imagine communicating this to the average taxi driver. The spa is new, well appointed and very inviting. The "massage therapist" I selected from their Line account timeline is named Kevin. Actually, I made the appointment before leaving the US and was delighted when it all worked out. He's Vietnamese and gorgeous. We had so much fun I booked him to come to me at the hotel the next day. No problem, he showed up the next day 15 minutes early and was a delight, we lunched together. I humbly thank Divinemadman for his excellent blog. Lunch was at Madrid Tavern, everyone likes pizza, even the Vietnamese. Frankly, I wondered how good this would be. When I say pizza I'm thinking of the New York ( New Jersey ) style and this Madrid's is not. It is, however, a very good thin sliced Neopolitan type. I appreciated the ability to order a small which is perfect for one. Until I leave for Pattaya you can assume dinner, drinks and teasing chatter with Jack at Maxi's every night. Now, off to Moonlight. Ah! The legendary Moonlight. I remember it when it was the brand new Jupiter 2000 named to welcome the millennium. I also remember when that area housed a room I shared for a week with a lovely lad from Issan, one of Barbiery's best. Frankly, I enjoyed it better when it was my room. No, that's not fair. It's a nice place just too much hype for me. I've never been a Vegas guy. The "models" are just not my type. I recognize their good looks and obvious attraction to others; however, the "floor models" are more my speed. Still, I return to Scewboy for the evening and choose a doll from Chiang Mai. Who makes a fine end to a very nice day. In summary, I was only three nights in Bangkok which I regret as I enjoyed it and ( sigh ) still miss the delightful Jack. But, I supposed you guessed that. The crowds were not large for high season, Maxi's is good. Madrid is good and the Tarntawan is perfectly fine and the endless speculation seems unjustified. Tomorrow I'm off to Pattaya and my first visit to Jomtien.8 points

Having made it by "first-day nuisances" that attended my arrival I realized that I had forgotten a medication. For newbies, many Thai Pharmacies do not carry a lot of western brands you might know. However, while there are many that do, you can head to a Boots ( UK firm ) which carries, depending on the branch, most everything. There is one located in the gay area - take Thaniya from Suriwongse straight through to Silom, make a left and it's about a block down. Armed with my medication I headed to Maxi's to recoup with a good drink and an early dinner. I think the food at Maxi's is quite good, at least I think so, as I was so taken by one of the waiters that I could have been eating cardboard and would have smiled at Jack. Ah Jack, whoever owns the place should be staffing a go-go bar. I showed his photo to a friend who only likes Hispanics and he said, "wow, so cute." But, I digress, I settled in and enjoyed my first rum and coke of the day. By the way, for years I was frustrated in getting this drink as no one ever seemed to know what I wanted. One day, I pointed to a bottle of Bacardi rum on the shelf and I told them to put some of that in a coke, " oh, Bacardi Coke." Mystery solved - God the power of advertising - there are other brands! Still, a drink brought by Jack is a better drink than one by any other name. Forgive my butchering of Shakespeare and to avoid controversy I will not mention the tips I gave for this service - you can assume far north of 20 Bhat. Before anyone pounces, we've all been there: the pretty face has greater earning power. I took the advice of our own gregarious Paulsf and selected a seat that gave me monitoring ability of the bars and massage places across the street. Great advice as I spotted a guy at Bonney that was tall, light and handsome. Just my cup of Jasmine scented tea. Quickly deciding that dinner could wait an hour I headed to Bonney Massage. Fixing on his handsome face I made the arrangements and then blanched in shock as I saw the steep rise of stairs in front of me. Deciding my cane would have to do as an alpine staff I headed up the escarpment. Yes, wordy I know but the damn thing is tall and steep. Booney is far from a fancy place and very basic. Still, I found it clean and this guy was sweet and attentive. Like the bars, there has to be only one you'd like. It's always a search. Back to Maxi's - all kidding aside, the food is good and they have excellent fries. There is, frankly, no better place to observe the life of the soi. I will say, that there was not that much to observe. Maxi's was busy but there was a day when Maxi's and Dick's were packed and there was a crowd walking in the soi. In my experience, this is not so today. But, then I'm an early bird and usually have my off by 10 PM. After Maxi's excellent burger I was off to The bars. Both Fresh Boys and X Boys had about 12 to 15 good looking guys and the staff was not pushy. In fact, I spent most of my time with the cute and engaging Vietnamese waiters. They were loads of fun for me with no off involved. But, there comes a time to take care of business and I decided to make a Screwboys run. Screwboys is a bit dark and has not seen a decorator in many a year. But, the boys are damn good looking and that's all that matters. The coyote boys in leather briefs give a synchronized dance show that is amusing and sweet as they smile and laugh. Number 80 is a gorgeous doll and, well, did what we agreed on. Enough said. Your need and preferences may differ so don't sell the place short - lovely, handsome lads.5 points -
At a friend's challenge, I wrote a 'gay erotic novella' in December. I had been enjoying written porn more than visual porn recently, and thought it might be a lark to figure out how this whole self-publishing thing works out on Amazon. Turns out, these guys have the process pretty wired (what a surprise). In keeping with the genre, most things happen as an excuse to fuck. I will shamelessly self-promote here in the hopes that I can eventually sell enough copies to pay back the $12 that the cover photo license cost me. If this kind of thing amuses you, check it out. Even if it doesn't, please lie and say it's awesome. The Team Comes First on Amazon4 points

Having no claim to the skills of a Barbara Cartland there will be no novella here; just an attempt to overview what I found to be true or, at least, my personal impressions of my recent trip. I flew over on Emirates and now recall while I hate the airport at Dubai. Doha is smaller, easier to navigate and run more efficiently. I use a wheelchair these days and the system works very well on the US end and perfectly fine at Bangkok. Dubai is a nightmare. Arriving, outbound, on my connection there was no chair for any of the passengers. A confused but kindly attendant organized the chairs but this took some 40 minutes in my case. The same thing happened on the return putting Dubai on my no-fly list. Perhaps because of the wheelchair situation, I was upgraded on the segment to Bangkok. I had almost forgotten what business class is like from my corporate days and I was impressed. While enjoying the comfort and good food I heard some noise behind me and explored. I found a nice, comfortable bar with a bartended and seating around the sides. Assuming there is an even more lavish show in First I had to wonder what this volume of space, distributed over the coach area, would add to the comfort of lesser mortals forced to fly in a medieval torture device. On arrival, the wheelchair whisked me through immigration and customs. Having exited customs I found, to no great surprise that the hotel car service I had arranged and reconfirmed was not there. Why do I bother as there are plenty of cabs? Well, it's almost a game now - I have NEVER had a car show up. Ever. I'm told, "it happens" - damn right. Each and every time. A word about the cabs. Now, I may be doing something wrong and please correct me. But I trudge along to the little post and press the button and I'm assigned number 53 - all the way down the line. Now, why can't we just take the next car in line. This system seems to work to please the drivers, not the customers. Please tell me where I err. I booked the Tarntawan with some trepidation as we have all read the mixed reviews of service and hard beds. Well, my room, at least, was very nice no stains, cigarette burns or the like. The hotel is still perfectly gay-friendly and positive. My only question is: are all the doorknobs set so close to the door frame that you bruise your knuckles unless you remember to use two extended fingers? It's just so damn odd. The bed was, actually, very comfortable. Breakfasts were OK, nothing spectacular. However, one day I felt very tired and decided to have a quick lunch in the hotel and ordered a club sandwich which was just nasty. One of the layers had meat I could not identify and don't care to know what it was but it was left uneaten. I would stay there again but never eat there - other than breakfast, again. I took off, the first day, to Cutey and Beauty for my jetlag treatment of Shampoo, haircut, shave, facial, pedicure and manicure. Very nice. However, the place just does not appear as prosperous as it once did. There was a day when they even took American Express - no more. On leaving, I went to the restroom on that floor of Plaza Thaniya. I mention this only to highlight one other absurd feature of Thai buildings. There always seems to be steps up or down, odd placement of levels, etc. In this case, I walked in the door and promptly nearly fell on my face. As I caught myself memories flooded back of all the other times I did exactly the same thing. Why is there a sudden two-inch drop to the floor as you enter the door? More tomorrow. I'm still jetlagged and sleepy.3 points

I also request a wheelchair to get to and from the plane. I just turned 78yo. And these days all the Airports are just too big!! I have a bad hip, arthritis, and I just cannot walk those distances any more. And there are the added perks of getting on the plane first and going through the special immigration lines. I understand the wheelchair is provided at no charge by the Airport Service. But I usually give a Tip to the Attendant. I was told in Manila to NOT give a Tip. But I slipped 500Pesos in his hand and he gave me a big smile!! Cheers to Paborn, enjoying your Post!!!3 points

Ha. Yeah, my partner writes really stupid romance. That's niche. This is even more niche. I understand to try to turn this into something you'd have to promote like crazy. Not sure it's even possible to promote enough to make this worthwhile. But if I could figure it out, maybe I could help my partner do the romance. That's farmed out to somebody else today.2 points

I'll post this here because it's Indonesia.... Been to Bali before and had a great time...this trip I wanted to try Jakarta...I like big cities, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Bangkok, etc... usually more than beach places as I am a vampire and mostly go out at night and don't care for beaches. A german friend of mine explained it pretty well to me, when I went to Bali he described it as openly gay no problem, many gays have been going for years but they are used to white guys (Aussies go A LOT)....He said Jakarta, mostly white business guys with no much time to play around ...So I would be a novelty here and I wouldn't even need to leave my room, they will blow up my phone with messages. He was right....50/50 money guys and guys wanting to hook up...mostly tops. I just had a 23 yr old guy leave and he came at 1:15 sec's and then again at 3mins, consecutively ....he said he doesn't have gay friends and doesn't do casual hook-ups (who knows)....but I was amazed. Not many drink alcohol here so is a different vibe, just sober sex.....only my 2nd day so far we'll see what the trend is later....just wish I had the same sex drive as the last guy, lol1 point -

From Bloomberg News (29 Jan.) Central Group, which controls Thailand’s biggest shopping mall and department store operator, plans to invest $200 million in ride-hailing giant Grab, people familiar with the matter said. The deal seals a strategic partnership under which the conglomerate will help Grab expand its business in Thailand, said the people, who asked not to be named because the information is private. Central Group will invest in Grab’s Thai unit, one of the people said. Grab and Central Group representatives declined to comment. With an empire that also includes hotels, supermarkets and restaurants, Central Group is counting on online growth to help drive sales. The company announced a $500 million joint venture with JD.com Inc. in 2017, teaming up with China’s second-largest e-commerce operator. Bloomberg first reported in September it was in talks to buy a significant minority stake in Grab’s local unit. Grab, which bought out Uber Technologies Inc.’s business in Southeast Asia, is expanding beyond its roots as a ride-hailing app by adding services such as food delivery, payments and logistics. GrabFood is now available in six major Southeast Asian countries and GrabExpress, its logistics and goods delivery service, in 150 cities, according to the company. The Singapore-based startup said this week it attracted more than $3 billion of investments in 2018 as part of its Series H funding round. Grab last year outlined ambitious fundraising plans and predicted that sales will double to $2 billion in 2019. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-01-30/thailand-s-central-group-is-said-to-invest-200-million-in-grab1 point

Also very frustrating when you are hoping for an English speaking driver with basic recognition of international hotel names, and instead you’re assigned a ramshackle car with a Thai-only driver and the other drivers have to help explain to him exactly where you want to go to! I also see lone female passengers hoping for a strong male driver to assist with luggage and end up with female drivers.1 point

The gimmick for success there is that you have to set up & then write into innumerable Amazon-borne blogs etc etc to get attention for your title. You have to do a shit-ton of various forms of self-promo (which they tell you about, all over their site) to drive interest and sales. Not a bad model. Just you have to promote your title relentlessly through all the avenues they give you for it to sell.1 point

I have no tattoos and I am not going to start now. Not that I have anything against tattoos, but... I have seen a lot of shitty tattoos. I'd hate to end up with something ugly. Second, my tastes change. I know that even if I loved it now, I'd be bored with it later. The idea of putting a tattoo on my face is just right out though. I think the current system is probably overall faster than it would be if a smaller number of passengers were getting loaded into a smaller space near the "dispatcher", but certainly it is a little disheartening after 18hr flight to have to schlepp luggage another 50 meters. Even before they introduced the current system you often would have to walk a bit to get to your taxi, but at least the taxi driver came to you and could help with luggage. But more important, I think when they got rid of the the human people assigning taxis it became that much easier for unscrupulous taxis drivers to try to go off-meter.1 point -

Agree that Tet (lunar New Year) is not an opportune time for tourists to visit Vietnam. It's not that you would be treated poorly or inconvenienced more than you could manage, but because it's truly a moment when the Vietnamese wish to celebrate among themselves. They want to let their hair down, renew old friendships and reunite with family. Although "Tet" is frequently associated by westerners with the North's 1968 military offensive in the South that began during the holiday, that has nothing to do with the celebrations that combine national, cultural and religious traditions. Let them enjoy the biggest holiday on their calendar.1 point -

well, it may just be that you DID get the next in line. Note that there is no taxi LINE in front of the building, presumably to avoid congestion due to slowly departing taxis when passengers have lots of bags to load, for example. Instead, they have introduced the bay system, which makes sense IMO. The cab's wait in a VERY long line on the side of the terminal building and then enter the bays as the bays become free and are allocated to them. So the cab in the first bay next to the ticket machine may have gotten there AFTER the one in the bay far away. Hence the far away cab is far away but still the NEXT IN LINE. pity, they used to actually have really good food in the lobby restaurant. The best feature of all FOR ME of Tarntawan of bygone days when I still used it as a visitor was the availability of a la carte breakfast 24 hours a day. Best invention ever for long sleepers.1 point -

The ‘gayborhood’ in San Juan is on the other side of the highway from the traditional tourist areas of Condado and Ocean Park. Its an easy 10-15 minute walk from most hotels to the three main clusters of bars, discos and bathhouse located in the Santurce Arts & Culture District. Gay Bars in San Juan’s Condado Tourist Area: Although Condado used to be the center of all gay nightlife, over-gentrification has left the traditional tourist strip with only one remaining gay bar. But don’t worry – its a short walk under the highway to the Santurce Arts District where all the action continues just a 10 minute walk from Condado hotels. #11. Oasis (formerly Splash) – 6 Ave Condado across from the Marriott, next to Sandy Beach Hotel. Monday night is very popular with lots of strippers, low lights and much too much artificial smoke/fog/yuck… Look for Walgreens and CVS and walk toward the beach. Open afternoons til night. Neighborhood bar and tapas restaurant just a few steps to the beach. Atlantic Beach Hotel/Oceano Restaurant Beach – Also check out the beach in front of Atlantic Beach Hotel and Oceano Restaurantwhich is still very gay most days. Two blocks from Oasis (formerly Splash) if walking on the beach. Look for Calle Vendig if arriving via Ashford Avenue. The Atlantic Beach Hotel is listed in many gay guides – but call them and ask if you will be allowed to bring a friend up to your room – in the past, travelers have reported a strict ‘no visitors’ policy. Street Cruising – Lots of gay guys and gals live in Condado – so cruise along Ashford Avenue any time of day or night! Gay Bars and Clubs in Santurce Arts District: If you are at any of the Condado hotels – you can get to the Santurce Arts District by just crossing over or under the highway. There are three clusters of gay bars in the Santurce Arts District: Stop 18 at R.H. Todd Ave & Ponce de Leon Ave near the Metro Theater and Museum of Contemporary Art. Stop 22 is further down Ponce de Leon Ave at the intersection of De Diego Ave near the Fine Arts Center & Puerto Rico Museum of Art. Stop 24 is another 7-10 minute walk near the the intersection of Ponce de Leon and Calle Bolivar or Calle San Jorge. You can easily walk between each of the areas in about 10 minutes or grab a taxi. Note: ‘Stops’ or ‘Paradas’ are how locals estimate location along Ponce de Leon Avenue in the Arts District. This is a remnant from the old trolley system which hasn’t run since the 1940’s. There are no signs with the numbers (even at the bus stops) but all locals and taxi drivers will understand the general location from the ‘stop’ or ‘parada’ number. Santurce: Stop 18 Gay Bars – across the highway from Condado near Metro Theater & Museum of Contemporary Art. These are on Calle Condado (mislabeled Avenida Condado on the street sign) which is one block to the right if you are facing the Museum of Contemporary Art. The street has abandoned buildings and looks very seedy – but is generally safe. If someone approaches you just say ‘No Thanks’ and move on, just like you would in NYC. There are also a few straight bars on the block, so be careful and don’t assume everyone is gay – use your ‘gaydar’ and be respectful. If taking a taxi – just tell them ‘Stop 18’ and then go one block to the bars. #6. SX – 1204 Ave Ponce de Leon – Late night strippers and dance every night. Find the stainless steel door (usually with a doorman) and then go downstairs. There is a straight bar just next door at street level, so don’t get confused. Hot bartenders, strippers, loud music, dance floor in the front. Go upstairs at the back and then downstairs to find the darker, less noisy ‘hang-out’ area. #7. VIP – 613 Calle Condado – Very popular with the young Reggaetón and hip-hop crowd. Starts late and stays open after the other bars have closed. Same building as Scandalo but closer to Ponce de Leon. #8. Scandalo – 613 Calle Condado – late night strippers and more. #9. El Chinchorro de ‘W’ – Calle Condado on the block before Circo. New gay bar and snacks with great Happy Hour prices. Very popular late night! #10. Circo – 650 Calle Condado – Multi-level video bar and disco. Mansion Lounge – this is a straight bar in the middle of all the gay action on Calle Condado.KRASH Disco – 1257 Ave Ponce de Leon (next to Metro Cinema). Closed permanently for several years, but is still in many guides – so we’ve listed it for reference only Santurce: Stop 22 Gay Bars: Across the highway between the Fine Arts Center & Puerto Rico Museum of Art. If taking a taxi, tell them Ponce de Leon & Ave. De Diego – Santurce. #4. Tia Maria Bar & Liquor Store – 326 Ave De Diego – Neighborhood Gay Bar. Open from afternoon til midnight or 1am on weekdays, later weekends. Make sure you go on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday nights for gay Karaoke from about 9pm until ??? #5. The Palace – 1501 Ave Ponce de Leon (2rd Floor) – 2nd floor disco and rooftop bar/terrace. Just around the corner from Tia Maria. Update April 2, 2016: They have now put up a new sign saying ‘Coming Soon’ and the entrance around the corner has a notice ‘Coming Soon’ as Papi’s Club… so not sure what will emerge… I’ll update as soon as I get info… Santurce: Stop 24 Gay Bars: This is the intersection of Ponce de Leon and Calle Bolivar. If you arrive from Ocean Park via Calle San Jorge, go past the San Jorge Children’s Hospital and up the hill to San Mateo Church. Then only one short block downhill to Ponce de Leon. If walking along Ponce de Leon from Tia Maria and The Palace, you go past the Ciudadela Condo Complex, First Bank, Arrivi Theater, Cobian’s Plaza (turn right for Temptation) and some vacant buildings until Abracadabraand Hotel San Jorge (for Zal Si Puedes). If taking a taxi, tell the driver ‘Stop 24’ at Leonardo’s or Cobian’s Plaza & walk one block. Bartender Angel at Temptation! #1. Temptation – 608 Calle Bolivar – Just one block from Cobian’s Plaza (3 blocks from Tia Maria and The Palace). Club is open from 9pm every night with Happy Hour Specials (see below for details). No cover charge. Everyone is welcome! Weekly Drag show at 2am on Saturday night! Temptation is easy to get to from all major hotel areas by taxi, driving (plenty of free street parking in the area) or even by walking from Condado/Ocean Park or a short walk from the other bar areas. www.temptationpr.com Happy Hours EVERY NIGHT at Temptation! #2. Zal Si Puedes – 1700 Ave Ponce de Leon. Small, friendly club catering to the 40+ crowd. Open Wednesday – Sunday nights from about 10pm til about 2am. Drag shows are mostly Thurs – Sat nights about 11:45pm but a diva may show up at any moment. Friendly and Fun! Located at Hotel San Jorge. The bar has seating for about 15 people – but often has up to 50 crowded in for shows plus spill-over on the street. You’ll see all the classic Latina Divas – like La Lupe, Yolandita, Paloma San Basilico, plus Barbara Streisand and Donna Summers thrown in if you’re lucky! #3. Xteamworks – 1752 Ave Fernandez Juncos. Bathhouse on second floor open from 6pm til about 2am Sunday – Thursday and until 6am on Friday and Saturday nights. A little hard to find, so check out their website for map. It’s next to a gas station with 24 hour mini-mart and upstairs from a sign store. Look for the doorbell next to the steel mesh gate on the right side of the ground floor entry. Very discrete from the street – very hot once you get there! Too far to walk home, so make sure that they help you call a taxi back to your hotel – or head back to Zal Si Puedes (two blocks away) or Temptations (four blocks away) and continue the fun! -------------------------------------------------------- From a recent gay guide on san juan. New Boyz Music Show Bar in Boyztown
1moRussian reacted to williewillie for a topic
All live music bars are loud in my experience in Thailand. No piano bars playing 1940’s - 50’s big band standards. All the doors were open last night. This new music show bar is not going to be targeted towards the older gay farangs. I still remember being temporarily deaf after leaving the old Hollywood club. The boys had to sit near the largest speakers. There was literally a wall of massive speakers. Once was enough. Never again. I went to a Thai party upcountry in a village. The live music was deafening but I was the only one who hated it. Another time we went out on a boat trip. No one told me it was a karaoke/ music floating raft. Deafeningly loud. Staying at a live music show bar hotel is probably only for those of us who are hard of hearing but there’s a possibility that the new construction will include sound dampening. I’m no doubt over amplifying the potential situation. Boyzboyzboyz management know what they’re doing and the new music bar will be in very good hands.1 point -
There was a guy at Pointe sauna who agreed to just about everything but rimming. He would n't even let me look at what seemed to be a wonderful ass. On our third time together, he raised his ass and made it easily accessible to my mouth. I looked, rushed, and munched on down. It was easily one of the most rimmable asses on one of the most exciting boys in a long time. It was pure delight. He had a very muscular body, smooth skin, a very smooth ass, and an anus without a single hair. That's my favorite ass, and to have such a delightful guy essentially make this a farewell gift to me is a memory to be cherished. I love Rio!1 point
