There was a time (for about twelve years) when I visited Fragata sauna whenever I was in Sao Paulo. This being Sunday night, it was nearly as it was in the earlier years. What a shock I had tonight - - walking into Fragata was tantamount to watching a porno movie. If you do not know, Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand and in the very North of the country. Per capita, it surely has more farang (foreigners) than Bangkok and can be very nice to visit. Our journey was by bus overnight and I must admit that the thought of 10 hours on the bus made me cringe but it turned out to be not as bad as I feared because this special bus has only one seat on each side of the isle and is quite comfortable and adjustable which made it easy to sleep. Our visit there was primarily to see the lantern festival which is held in conjunction with the Loi Kratong festival. Several hundred paper lanterns are released into the sky for several hours by many people participating in the event and everyone is standing around enjoying the evening. After we got a thrill out of the lanterns lighting up the sky that night like hundreds of stars we left the next day for Mon-Jam where there is a resort in the mountains which has cabins or tents for rent. The weather was cool and very pleasant and negated the requirement for air conditioning. In the evening we ate outdoors at a picnic table where we were served a Mookrata. Different meats and vegetables are provided to self cook on a charcoal burner which is brought to the table. Fun and good eating for a couple of hours. Next day we left for home a bit tired but thinking of a fun event.

Back in July I posted about wifi on aircraft no longer blocking this site. I found it a pleasant break to be able to occasionally tune into this site during a long flight. I myself like the ROSE Hotel.... i find it very well run, quite convenient, and you can stay out in the area late without having to deal with rip-off taxis and tuk-tuks who WILL overcharge you for any trip out of the Silom-Suriwong area. (For longer stays, I generally suggest that visitors avoid hotels in that area and consider a more genuinely "Thai" area, such as the one my apartment is in.... over on Charoen Krung by the Saphan Thaksin BTS station). For your physical "type" I would strongly recommend the ARENA massage parlor http://arenaspa-bangkok.com/ I have never had a bad experience there, and there is a great variety of gentlemen to choose from. I, myself, do not like the bars/gogo bars in Soi Twilight - the drinks are overpriced, the staffpersons are pushy, and I do not enjoy the experience. I went there with a Brazilian friend maybe 6 or 7 years ago. It is totally different atmosphere than in Rio or SP sauna. Absolutely no foreigner there as Tomcal mentions. Prices went up.
