Day 8.5: Two for the price of one Our ride back to Ipanema was pretty awesome. We were all rejuvenated after the fairly relaxing (though intense as well) stay at Arrail do Cabo. Americans have been listening to hate speech for 2 years from a sitting President. Did you really think that they would have no results? I realize there are States in the U.S. that allow citizens to walk around carrying a loaded gun. However, in the U.S. there are not more than 60,000 murders reported each year as there is in Brazil. With the new Brazilian government taking charge in January, there will be many changes for its residents. Hopefully, the new regime will get Brazil back on its economic feet again and get the crime rate in check. I doubt that allowing ordinary citizens to freely carry guns in public places will add to the economy or to less homicides.

And I share the feelings of @sydneyboy1 I have travelled extensively in Latin America and Africa and I always take security measures and stay alert. I’ve learned over the years of many incidents that go unreported by local media yet extreme violence is a routine feature of these incidents.

I have always thought that words matter. I also think Trump definitely thinks words matter and, in fact. depends upon same. However, I learned a long time ago that the same words do not matter the same to different people. I once delivered an aircraft to a college professor in NC. He accepted the aircraft as is, where is (after inspection). Later he decided that a radio was not working properly. I took the position that the aircraft was delivered and accepted. He continued to claim the radio should work. After going back and forth about this a few times it dawned on me that we were arguing about two different things.
