Considering that I had such a good time at Lagoa a couple of days ago (Wednesday) I decided to return to Lagoa last night (Friday). Last night I went to Lagoa alone. The place was even busier and better last night than it was on Wednesday. I met a couple of nice garotos and had a great time. Then, it was time for me to leave for the night. I paid my bill and stepped outside to call for an Uber to take me back to my hotel. When the Uber car arrived, I could not see the driver because it was at night and the headlights from his car made him appear only as a shadow. He called out my name which gave me confidence to enter the vehicle. I sat in the back seat. The driver was friendly and could tell from my Uber account and from my accent that I was not Brazilian. Shortly after we chatted a while about nothing, he asked me how i liked the sauna. Well, that was a strange question. The Uber app tells him my basic details and gives the driver a pick up address. However, the app does not say that the pick up address is a sauna. I was taken aback by his question about the sauna. So, I asked him how he knew the address was a sauna. EDIT: I asked him why he quit the sauna for Uber. He said that Uber is a reliable source of income (about R$2,500 monthly). The sauna pays only if he meets a paying client. He said on slow days he does not meet clients then he is out the money for his transportation, his sauna entrance fee and wasted time.

I’ll answer all of your questions. (1) If you are staying at the Village Novo like you said you might, then it is around the corner where the street parallel to Av. Sete de Setembro ends. (2) The supermarket may stay open until maybe 10 pm and 6 pm on Sundays. You can probably use the ATMs there until closing, but not sure. (3) The neighborhood is comparably safe, as compared to say, Pelourinho — but walk around that street alone at night after grabbing reais at the ATM machine AYOR. (4) There really is no such thing as a “gay hood” in Salvador. You might want to get the Eurocentric notions of gayness out of your head. But Barra has probably more openly gay-friendly businesses than the other neighborhoods, a higher concentration of international tourists near its beaches, and it is known for a very dangerous cruisy area that if you go to at night seeking a cheap thrill and get killed, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Have fun.

On notice, there are many gay guys (or at least gay friendly muscle guys) going to porto da barra ... If you look like a foreign tourist some guys (or girls) may insinuate to you they are available to a programa. Just keep your smarts on, keep the minimum with you. I always remember the first time I stepped on Porto da Barra and a ripped hot capoeirista immediately came up to me to shake hands and asked in english "where are you from? Go early in the afternoon... like 4 pm.

I wouldn't defer it, just be prepared...You'll return in April too, lol The day's leading up to Christmas are great, also the 2 days after , everyone is hungry for money...then the Avalanche of tourists, national & international. Christmas eve EVERYONE heads to be with family, I ended up alone and couldn't find anyone, I went to midnight mass at the church across from Corujinhas, lucky priest, he had the cutest alter boys. I ended up at the gay kiosk on the beach and finally meeting someone...not one person on Copacabana beach, I had NEVER seen that...there's always people out there at whatever hour, not this time....so we fucked on the beach. Wasn't as fun as it sounds, wasn't prepared, no towels, and sand everywhere So if you don't want to end up like this, make plans with someone. I'd stay 31st in Rio, New Years Eve (Reveillon) is incredible, largest NYE in the world....

This has been asked by others and answered by me several times and a search would give you the results you need. Planetario 11 is the most popular rentboy sauna in Salvador, followed closely by Fox. Persona is now closed down. Olympus is AYOR. No one has yet to report on visiting the new sauna, Thermas Club 13.

There are enough gays that go TO Praia do Porto da Barra, and there might even be an area where many of them congregate (closer to the north end). But, again, to be clear — it isn’t a “gay beach”! Not in the Eurocentric notion of what “gay” is. I am just repeating this because there seems to be a lot of dumbasses on this board (not necessarily you), and I don’t want you to end up getting your head cracked open. It is more “gay friendly” than most other beaches in the Bahia. And there is even a pousada / aparthotel across the street that hangs a rainbow flag (the owner is a gay European or American). And there is some discreet (or not so much) hustling going on in and around the area. But it’s not as “openly” gay as, for example, the beach between Postos 8 and 9 off Farme in Rio. There is also a gay-friendly (mostly lesbian) patio restaurant / bar closer to Praia do Farol da Barra (perpendicular to Praia do Porto de Barra), and a sometimes-open, sometimes-not gay club / disco right next to it that is boring as all hell. This is not very far from the non-rentboy sauna in Barra, Sauna Paraíso (Paradise — which it’s not. That title belongs to the rentboy sauna Planetario)!

Are you using an alias name on your blog? I tend to be more cautious than others, but I find that bloggers are very easy to identify in this day and age, especially if they're writing controversial thoughts. I suspect that far more people know who you are than you think. If I were a teacher, I'd be very concerned about that.

@tempguy : & @Alaskabear : Then you guys would love the two clubs mentioned in my post. Both clubs are what I think of as Latin gay show clubs. The boys dance then come around and associate with patrons willing to pay for their company. They will talk to you for free but, if you expect to maintain their attention for most of the night you should buy them "boy drinks" yes, they are more expensive. At Enigma the boys actually get the drinks you pay for, hence the picture of the dancer drinking the beer. However, BarBotas Bar is as always a unique case. In Botas you pay 100 MXN to basically get the boy sitting next to you a water, of that 100 he only gets 20 MXN. I was told by one of the boys that he would rather I just kept on ordering mojitos and feeding them to him surreptitiously then tipping him in cash discretely than keep ordering him waters that he didn't really want. You might be better off ordering a bottle of liquor and watering you boys that way. I was having such a good time that at one point I had 3 boys in my garden; of course the owner had to disperse them to keep me in a rotating maximum of 2 at a time. Now as for touching, I am not sure how far you can go in public but, I was able to touch nearly everything I wanted while I was paying for drinks. If you want to touch areas of the boys that are covered then you should probably take them private. The private at Botas only cost me 150 I think, maybe 250 but I was a bit intoxicated at the time. The guy was good and let me touch anything I wanted. He also mentioned that for more tips he could do more and this is probably where the true monger would make an arrangement for meeting at a later time. I love both of these clubs since they are relatively inexpensive and have great guys on display. The guys at BarBotas are definitely more defined than Enigma but, Enigma has a more relaxed atmosphere. I really enjoyed both establishments. I semi-retired the end of June and moved from San Diego. I spend 70% of my time in Portland and 25% in Salt Lake City. My company pays me to work 1 week per month in San Diego. If you are staying in Barra, there are several good and relatively safe ATM machines to use near the beaches, as long as you try to use them before dark and plan accordingly. My recommended one is inside a supermarket (that recently became affiliated with Wal-Mart for some reason) one block off Praia de Porto de Barra, but there are a few others.
