OZ, if it is over 80+ out they only wear speedos and flip flops everywhere and carry a T shirt if we happen to go into a enclosed restaurant(only if we really need the a/c!)
If anyone is planning a trip to Rio in the short run is a good idea to check Hotel Atlantico rates. The $250.00/$300.00 absurd nightly rates are all the way down to around $60.00, at least according to messages (unrequested!) I'm getting from bookings.com. I have no idea if there are any small prints behind it and since I'm not ready to book I can't really find out, if anyone is in the market for it is worthwhile to double check and please advise. If is true Rio's tourism is in deep trouble!
Yes, I believe is valid, I have used Bookings.com in the past (not in Brazil) and it was a good experience. Is important to notice that often the booking sites have a better deal than going to the hotel website, or even calling them directly, despite the fact that obviously the hotels have to compensate the agencies. Go figure!
I could not agree more about the "representativeness" of the picture above, both from the guys we can see in brazilianĀ“s (particulary rio's) sauna and from the guys for sure are visiting Tom over when he is in Brazil... I say that because I still lively remember the first time I stepped on Club 117 few years ago and I could not belive my eyes kkk
Gotti, i always stayed at the atlantico from 2001 - 2005 it was mediocre at best but their liberal guest policy and their close proximity to Rogers, Estacau and pointe saunas made it woth it! But when 2 of those 3 saunas disappeared and their prices started to rise i went to a apt. Also we used to be very close to the long time staff many of whom had been there 15 + years, once the son of the owner took over direct mgt and they got rid of the old time staff the atmosphere changed. I might mention that the atlantico owns now 6 hotels and owns the building that Pointe202 sauna is in!
So it might be true on the Atlantico case, the Hyatt in Rio use to be on the $500.00 class and up. The Atlantico caught my attention cause they were the preferred lodge for Boy Toy members since they are known to accept overnight guests without many questions. Apparently hotels are becoming cheaper than Airbnb, and all that at the peak of the summer! Such deals probably won't last too long, since some of them probably will go out-of-business.
Thanks for the heads up Gotti.
Unfortunately the economy is still in decline. I find it strange how quickly it has tumbled but I do not think it was unexpected.
The new hotels that were built during the boom are also struggling to survive now. The new Hyatt is asking around $100 usd a.i. on some nights- they cannot survive with those rates.
