I hardly check this site much anymore..... But (remember, this is my opinion).... Cuba sucks now.... I was there before, during and after the death of Fidel.....Like Tom Said, been going FAITHFULLY for about 15-17 yrs. I've dealt with all the shit that goes on there that doesn't happen any other place in the world.....but think I had my last trip. I understand not every guy will be my type....but recognize when someone is cute, handsome or attractive in some other way....they have mostly left to Spain, s. America, etc... since Cuba did away with the Carta Blanca (the exit permit) a few years back. Even walking the streets during the day, I am hard pressed to find someone that I think is cute. Sex use to be a guaranteed success....now you're lucky if they can get hard and boy are they full of excuses. Granted $20 is still cheap, but by the time they empty out your fridge and have ideas of going shopping through your closet for what they like.....just gets tiring and old. Plus the police crack downs WHENEVER they feel like it. If anyone has been on this board or the old Hoo Boy site will know I was always praising Cuba.....those days are gone. I'm pretty well known around town, to waiters, bartenders (don't pay for drinks at the Hotel Nacional), taxi drivers, police....the boys come and go....many have died (HIV is more rampant than they would let on) For price, availability, variety and horniness, there are many places in Mexico I prefer....Brasil is just so damn expensive, getting there, taxis, sauna entrances, restaurants,apartments or hotels.....I LOVE Brasil but the per diem is too high for me. Thailand is fun too, but it is on the other side of the world, boys charge more than Brasil or Mexico....is a big world, a friend was just in Santiago, DR and has been raving about it.

I found Floridarob's observations very interesting. They accord very closely to what 3 other men have told me. About 4 years ago, I met (separately) two extremely goodlooking Cubans in Barcelona, Spain. One had left Cuba with his mother and now has a successful career as a male model. The other had his exit sponsored by an older Spanish businessman and, after living with him for 2 years in Barcelona, had left him as he felt he'd "repaid" the man's generosity and was established in Spain. Both Cubans have returned on vacation to Cuba in the last 12 months. A year ago, I mentioned to both Cubans and to a good and very well-travelled friend that I was thinking of making a trip to Havana for rest and recreation. (To meet SolaceSoul's point above, I'm a fit old man who is a top only and I enjoy spending time with handsome younger men with ripped, muscled bodies who like to please). All 3 warned me that I would have a celibate and unhappy vacation. All 3 said that no-one there would match my 'usual standard' as all the attractive and fit-bodied young men who used to be found in Havana, marketing themselves to visiting foreigners, had relocated to Europe in most cases and to the US in a few cases.

Then go......and be disappointed first hand,lol I'm talking poor teeth, bad breath, poor hygiene.....rude manners, thieves, liars.....not all in one of course. Is a cool place to visit with a lover or family member to see but for sex, while not impossible, the success rate for something good is prob about 15% whereas years ago was 90%. I got back last weekend from spending a week in Merida looking at a house to buy. I narrowed it down to 3! On the 2nd leg of my flight from Houston to Merida i met a guy from DC who was also coming down to look at buying a house! I agree mostly with this approach, but with the caveat that it's not for everyone. i negotiate high-dollar deals for a living, and have done so for over 25 years at this point, so more than 1/2 of my life has been spent studying the other side of the bargaining table for the best win-win and best goods for the best value. It takes a bundle of things to make that work: usually, if the parties get along, it's better (that could be mutual physical attraction, sexual chemistry or just the personalities clicking), or if it is unilateral (which is often more than not), making the other party think that they are getting more than their equal value (even if you were prepared to shell out more). Amazing, excellent experience as usual... The basics... 117 was as usual Thursday, Friday and Saturday...did not go Sunday... Not sure how Sunday was but I imagine it was packed as it was cold, windy and dreary do the sauna would have been a perfect place to stay warm and comfortable.... One thing that really came to my mind this trip is....Those sauna boys definitely have to work hard for the money....there is a lot of competition for the money that does come in...As I only travel to Rio 3-4 times a year, I have no idea what it is like on the regular....I have been in each season and it has always been pretty busy... The usual very attractive to mediocre guys there...something for all tastes but the general description was attractive, muscular or very fit...big dick....mixed, white, a few black guys.... Highly suggest staying in Copa or Ipanema and just staying near a metro station....google hotels near metro stations in Copa or Ipanema....there are tons... The touristy areas have higher quality hotels and are safest for somebody that does not speak Portuguese 2) 100 R is the going rate, I guess. I will talk about paying the guys one last time! It seems this topic comes up every year. I do not pay rates higher then the norm! Anymore then i would pay L.A. Housing rates in say... Des Moines Iowa because i feel guilty that housing is so much cheaper there! One of the reasons i pay the going rate and not the "i feel guilty rate is 1) i had been told this in every sauna i have been in, in Brazil by the locals "Do Not overpay! It will wreck it for us!" Remember the locals are the majority of the business! If they stop going there, there will not be any saunas left for us to visit! I pay $100.R a session in a sauna. i know a couple guys very well who i have been seeing down there for a number of years who are true professionals! They work 5 sometimes 6 days a week at the saunas usually for more then the mandatory 3 hours!(all the saunas have work rules that if the guy wants to work there he has to stay a minimum of 3 hours from the time he arrives!) both these guys drive newer cars and live in nice condos, and make a better living then their peers! And they unlike their non sauna friends, are not working 8 hours a day but working in a air conditioned place in a towel for Two to 3 Hours at a time! The majority of the guys do it for a short period of time before the move on to "regular" employment! There are at least 10 of those guys i have known, who i see there on a social basis, and go to dinner with their wives who are now over 30! Having worked in the sauna is no big secret they are not embarassed or ashamed and usually their GFs or wives know about their employment there!
