Personally, I think OZ does a great job of moderating, starting with his longstanding request for posters to try to moderate themselves. He's always been clear that he doesn't want to spend his every waking hour herding cats. Earlier in this thread, he even went so far as to invite some of us Board members to become moderators ourselves, including yours truly. As I had recently had my head examined, I was unable to take him up on his kind offer. If I were a moderator, I'm sure I'd have a lot less patience than OZ has shown recently. Thirty-day timeouts would flow liberally, like April showers, and the third strike would be the last. I'd also ask the programmers to automate part of the process. Fr'instance, I'd ask them to allow everyone to make one final post in a Sandbox thread, and I'd ask them to limit it to a thousand characters. After that, your post button would stop working. Most of all, as OZ has done, I'd shift the responsibility to us posters to make sure we stay within the lines. There are no dummies here, and anyone who wants to be a valued member of the community has the moxie to do so. Anyhoo, that's my take and, rather than ask OZ to do more in the way of moderating, I'd suggest asking him to do less. With all the hours that are freed up, perhaps he could go to work on some kind of a Daily Fantasy Forum.

I can't believe someone (Oz) actually took the time to write Page 1 of this thread. But I suppose somewhere along this endeavor it became necessary. I also didn't know Oz was/is a lawyer. Or maybe the accurate question should be, how do I moderate properly? I can tell you this: It costs money to moderate properly, and if you're not willing to spend, you often get what you pay for. I doubt there is anything that can be done, at least to fully please me. My new strategy is to ignore the members whom I believe are TROLLS. It won't take much brain cell to figure out who I think these folks are. Decisions concerning decorum are entirely based on the owner's outlook on gay life and manners. Rules almost always begin and end at the top. Setting the rules of decorum is not an easy task, especially when the board is free and open to potential trolls. You're never going to please everyone. Every group will always have one or two who never stop bitching about something. And there will always be an escort who wishes to crush the competition. In my opinion, and I'm repeating myself here, the only way to control TROLL behavior is to charge a membership fee. People who pay for their enjoyment tend to treat their favorite toys with more respect. Not only does this create a financial resource for the site, it attracts serious men who are serious about the subject matter. It also discourages men who don't hire from coming here and disrupting respectful camaraderie. If an owner decides to charge for admission, he better offer a website experience like no other. Not only does that mean spectacular graphic design, fabulous photography, and probably a custom code writer to create a seamless UI, it also requires an owner with a talented creative vision and a strong business mission. Snapping your fingers and saying, "OK, today you pay an entrance fee.," will not work. In fact, it will fail. Gay men are way too smart for that greed-ridden tactic. So, dear readers, try to understand this beast is not easy to tame and control. Be grateful there is a second choice. A lot of gay men don't want another "daddy" figure in their life.

I can't believe that 50 or more people took their time to request that Suckrates be banned. It makes me feel like a loser participating here, where there are 50 (which means 10 times that really, at least) posters that advocate for this. Guys, after a 6 month or so break from here I have decided to start posting again. I couldn't get tomcal back so now I am tomcall, First to clear up a misconception, when I stopped posting early this year, it was not because I was upset but rather 1) I had to force myself to get out of a rut of checking this site every day first thing in the morning so the first thing I did was take the link off my computer so I wouldn't be tempted! as I know I don't have strong will power! lol and 2) I also realized I posted a lot of repetitive information and felt I ran out of new things to "talk about"!(I also had brain surgery but that's a whole nother story!) Yesterday I took a look, saw some new names among forum members and also saw a post from several months ago and in it MsGuy mentioned how he missed my posts about Brazil as he lived vicariously thru them as he wouldn't be visiting Brazil. While there are a number of guys on the site I have met in person and several I consider good friends, there are a number of guys I have never had the privilege of meeting in person but thru the forum consider them friends! I am going back in October for my 4th trip this year and will write about those trips later. I also made a trip to Mexico and had a great time! reports will follow! I am going soon to make my 4th trip to Brazil this year in october! Imho, there has been some changes but overall things are the same as the last 15 years that i have been going here! The terrible economy in Brazil has slowed the saunas down as local customers who are 99% of their business have seen their incomes and/or jobs have been reduced or eliminated are going once a month instead of once a week!
