Forty years ago today, on May 24, 1976, the first installment of "Tales of the City" was published in the San Francisco Chronicle. As a child, I read these books and thought that my life could be different. I dreamed of San Francisco and I dreamed of having people know me and know I was gay. These books and the author had a major influence on my life.1 point

Likewise re has it been that long? I walked in the Stonewall 25 parade / processional and saw Maupin in it too. Realizing that Stonewall 25 was itself nearly a quarter of a century ago is a bit boggling. Time is the implacable enemy!1 point
