Rio's Olympic Preparations
SolaceSoul and 2 others reacted to ihpguy for a topic
I've not been on this site for awhile, but the posters here do not have a clue about the Olympic preparations. Planning. Problems. It might help to read the newspapers for some more factual information. The money spent and/or wasted on the Olympics is nothing in comparison to the theft concerning all things Petrobras. Google about the wasted 50 plus billions of Reais(and counting) for the new Itaborai oil refinery. Never finished and current construction now suspended. As far as driving between Barra and Copa/Ipa. 2 BRT lines have been completed and a third BRT connecting the large area at Deodoro is supposed to be completed by the opening. I drove out to Barra da Tijuca two days ago, passing the still under construction stations in Leblon, Sao Conrado and Barra. The new stayed bridge is still not completed either. The Maracana and Maracanazinho, Sambodoromo and Engenhao are not in Copa/Ipa either. This will be one games where it will be advisable to travel by public transit. The new terminal expansion at Galeao is progressing very well. The works on the new mall and hotel at Santos Dumont are basically completed. The doubling of the Joa Elevado will never be completed in time for the games. I'll take bets on this one. Biggest problem here at the moment is the lack of money coming from the state and federal governments to finish things. The health system here is bankrupt. The state first asked Brasilia for 435 million Reais, last week the request was upped to about 1.3 billion Reais, This only is to pay off some old debts. The government doesn't have the money to pay everyone their 13th month payment/bonus. This caused poor Christmas retail sales. Brasil is an export based economy. Raw material prices are down throughout the world. This country is going broke. We're now in a tenth consecutive quarter of economic contraction. 2015 had an official inflation rate of 10.7% and this year is already predicted at a bit under 7%. Worrying about getting from Copa/Ipa to Barra for some events is the least of their worries.3 points -
While I agree that the parks in Rio are generally dangerous based on a lot of reported crime, the parks in Sao Paulo are quite another thing. I think the reason for so little crime around the Sao Paulo parks might be due to many hourly hotels within steps of many parks. Hourly hotels are cheap. They run between 20 - 30 reais for one hour. The personnel at the hotel keeps the I D of the garoto until you both leave. Most hotels are locked after you are assigned a room, which means that if a garoto caused a problem, the garoto would have a problem leaving the hotel. Furthermore, the garoto would forever be forbidden to return to the hotel with future clients. For example, Trionon park, on Avenida Paulista, is in one of the nicest streets in the city. The park is heavily patrolled by police (prostitution is not illegal in Brazil) and it is easy to meet garotos there during most parts of the day. On occasion, a policeman offers his services to interested park visitors if there are not many people in the park. Another park that is nice (but not as nice as Trionon Park) is Ibirapuera Park where there is a nightly parade of hustlers similar to what one would find in Sao Paulo's only hustler bar, Bar Fama. I have never heard of anyone getting mugged in parks or at Bar Fama. -2 points

My First Trip to Gay Thailand

I think I saw him a few years ago. He is very good looking and he was fine in bed and I think I paid 1500 short time which at the time was the high end of the going rate. Look I don't know where you are from and what you have to pay in your home country. That is cheap compared to USA rates which is exactly why he advertises in the Escort section. He hopes people who are not familiar with acceptable prices will pay him more then what many boys that good looking can be had for less. Keep in mind there are many boys in the regular section that are that good looking and their photos may not be professionally done and retouched and yet you will have a great time . Of course in Bangkok not all the boys are prostitutes on Romeo where as in Pattaya , certainly more then 1/2 are. It may seem inexpensive to you and if that is the case go for it. If you'd rather see 2 boys for the same price then go looking in the Bars etc. At any rate I would never pay him what he asked and would counter at 3000. You have nothing to lose.1 point -

NOT SO FAST! As I said previously, prostitution is legal in Brazil. The cops that patrol the parks are not stupid. When they see men hanging around in a park that is heavily frequented by gays and making eye contact, most cops ignore you, but they know why you are there. Sometimes, but not very often, a cop might want to make some money (Sao Paulo cops make around R$1,200 monthly) or the cop just might want to have sex. If all the circumstances are in place and IF the cop makes contact with you, it is possible that you will be able to get the cop to go with you to one of the hourly hotels. HOWEVER - the cop cannot go there during his work hours nor in his uniform. You will have to make an appointment with the cop to meet him after he gets off work or after he goes into one of the bathrooms in a shopping center near the park and changes out of his uniform. One cop I met did not want to go to a hotel in the area. He said he would go with me provided I paid for a taxi to an hourly hotel that he knew of several miles from the park. It was a memorable event, one that I would not mind repeating. Yes, it is possible to have a brincadeira with a cop, provided all the stars line up for you (and they could and do). -1 point

Thanks for your update. I am very sorry to read what you have to write. However, pols everywhere have their hands in the public pocket with the US and Brazil no exceptions for sure. I have been waiting for a very long time for the voters/public to wake up and smell the coffee but my time is running out in the sense of many years to go. We are all abused but also somewhat oblivious. Best regards, RA11 point

http://time.com/4172821/rio-olympics-financial-crisis/ Two or three weeks ago, there was a report the the UFRJ medical school hospital near Galeao, the second largest hospital for transplants in South America, had stop surgeries except for only the greatest emergencies due to lack of funds, donor organs are not being used to save lives and going to waste. Last week or the week before, two state hospitals were transferred to the metropolitan government as the state had no funds to operate them. The Museu da Amanha at the Praca Maua was finally opened just over a week ago. Completed at triple the original budget. http://traveller24.news24.com/Explore/watch-rio-de-janeiro-street-muggings-go-viral-ahead-of-olympic-games-20160111 The video is taken at the corner of the plaza by the Largo do Carioca metro station. More marauding gangs of kids in arrastaoes on the beach in Copacabana last week.1 point

Also note that Boston recently withdrew its bid because of not wanting the cost, the disruption, nor the useless infrastructure left behind.1 point
