Thought I'd post a few photos of just a couple of the magnificent buildings here. Might Have to change my mind about Grindr. I have finally made it to Mexico City. It has been on my list for awhile and with a push from Floridarob I arrived yesterday. Short 3 hour flight from Atlanta which is the reason I was looking at it. Getting too old for those 26 hour trips to Thailand more then once a year. Luckily the $ has been extremely strong so 17 pesos to the dollar was the rate. Airport is definitely old but clean. I was first off the airplane so short line through immigration and customs. They have like 4 taxi companies where you buy in advance in the terminal. The rates vary greatly. Not sure why probably because of size of car etc. I choose the cheapest at 225 pesos $13.00. No waiting , small car but clean. About 20 minutes to the Hotel. I am staying at the LeMeridien on points. An all suite hotel and the rate if you pay is about $100 so it would appear nice Hotels are very fairly priced. For future trips I did look on Airbnb and found many nice apartments at $70 or less in good locations. This is a big city so you need to know where you will be staying so as not have trouble getting boys etc. The Hotel has had no problem with guests but need key for elevator so I meet them out front. I have had a couple of real nice meals in sit down restaurants where I could not finish the plates and the prices were reasonable. Did not find Gayromeo much use and Hornet way better then Jack'd or Grindr. I do not like Saunas so did not bother looking for info but I understand there are 1 or 2. I love the apps but it is more challenging here because I speak little Spanish and the boys are not used to using translations on their phone. I would say 20% speak some English. I am looking for Twink Bottoms and I would have to say the majority of boys interested in money are Tops but there are so many boys , it is not a problem finding Bottoms. I forgot to mention that I failed to check the altitude before this trip and was worried when I realized it is over 7000 ft ASL. Bogota was 8700 ft ASL and it took me 24 hours to be able to walk to the corner. I have had only a little problem here of being tired from walking sooner then normal. I forgot to mention, my kind of weather , in the 50's at night and the 70's during the day. No rain in the forecast .

Your request is not as easy to fulfill, as one might think. Finding a one-on-one guide for Rio who speaks English and knows the sauna scene is next to impossible. You will be able to find a general tour guide but most will not know the sauna scene and most will not know English. More than ten years ago I was aware of ONE Brazilian guide in Rio who guided as you seek. His name is Danilo. To my knowledge, he no longer acts as a guide. One person who might know how to reach Danilo (who could ask him for a referral for you) would be OZ, the owner of this site. You can give it a try. On the other hand, based on my many trips to Brazil, you will not need a guide for Rio. What you need is to read the posts on this site and copy the posts that contain names and addresses of places in Rio you will want to visit. There is a wealth of information on this site concerning Brazil and places that interest those of our persuasion. I realize it is overwhelming to visit a huge foreign city for the first time while not knowing the local language and not being sure of how to maneuver your way around. Unless you are an extraordinarily fearful person, I can guaranty that you will not need a guide if you read the material I suggested above. If you have any specific questions, not covered on the site, ask away. I and several other frequent travelers to Brazil most likely know the answer to any question you might have. You said you don't speak Portuguese. Here is your first lesson in Portugese: Tenha uma boa viagem - which simply means, have a good trip. -

A good meal at a trendy restaurant sure sounds nice. But I hope this Mr. John speaks Portugese, otherwise it would be just a silent meal, or a lot of silly baby talk.

HUSTLER BARS seem to be yet another industry disrupted by the Internet. The web offers a larger and more private market for buyers and for sellers. Sadly, the same may happen to the saunas. All agree that these places exist because of the locals, not for us. The worsening economic conditions in Brazil and the inevitable loss of clientele to Grinder, Romeo etc, may mean that the saunas as we have known them won't survive the recession.

If any travelers to Brazil want to try something different away from Rio, there is a nightclub/hustler bar in Sao Paulo that has become increasingly popular over the past few months. I mentioned this place last year or so in another thread. The place is called Bar Fama. It has been at its current location for several years. Recently, there has been a marked increase in garotos and their admirers. I assume, like many establishments, there are busy nights and fewer busy nights. I know that the three nights I was there recently, the place was fun and busy and exciting (except for the drag shows that I do not care for). Some of the garotos at Bar Fama are the same garotos that one sees at the saunas. While other garotos are those who do not visit saunas. There is a large selection of garotos not otherwise seen except for at this place. One negative factor about the bar is that it does not open until late, after the saunas generally close or die out, or around midnight or so. As mentioned above, there are live drag shows on premises. Considering that the place is a hustler bar, I suspect that most customers are not motivated to visit Bar Fama to see drag shows, although the shows do attract a large crowd. If anyone chooses to visit Bar Fama, due to the late opening hours, I recommend using a taxi to and from. The Metro is several blocks from the bar. Unless you know the area, it is too easy to lose your way in the dark. Furthermore, it is potentially dangerous to be walking around late at night in Sao Paulo, although the area is no more dangerous than many areas of Rio. I don't think a tour guide is really needed in Thailand. It is easy to get around and go places and do things. But, if you want companionship, I suggest hiring a guide that is cute and gay. There was a recent thread on GayThailand about that. For me, I would have loved this on my first few trips. The cost is about 30-40 USD per day and I am sure it would be well worth it. Or, just go and find a guy you like that speaks English and have him stay with you the entire trip. Don't do like I have done and find one guy (or two in my case) and keep them for 10 years. That shit gets really expensive. I know you will love Thailand.
