I'll just give my 2 cents.... TotallyOz, you know I like to thrive on danger and the dangerous types, lol.... God knows I've had my share of problems in Mexico, Cuba and Brasil. But MDE, was a little different. Many Taxi schemes you need to be aware of, I was almost kidnapped for ransom by an SUV with 4 guys trying to find out if I was European or American, Thank goodness I went into my best Cuban speaking Spanish accent telling them I just arrived and was looking for work... they were then uninterested, because what's the chances anyone would pay for me,lol.... but was a scary experience, hair raising, literally . Then I met, what seemed to be a nice guy but ended up getting my experience somehow, don't remember all the details with "Devils Breath" Scopolamine I guess is the medical name.... woke up after like 24-48 hrs of sleep to an almost empty hotel room. Hotel security showed me the video of who I entered with and he said I was very lucid, telling him that I knew these 3 people for a long time. You become very open to suggestions I guess and they left with my wallet, laptop, clothes .... but luckily those things can be replaced. I've only heard/read of stories of worse things happening, not only here but in Brasil as well. I'm not a nervous Nelly nor has it stopped my travels..... I still had a good time with some guys in MDE at the Sauna and some other bars.... but was enough to say...ummmm, there are other places to go, 2 bad experiences within a few days was enough, lol I'm not here to piss on anyones parade... I love Mexico City, many people think it is too dangerous.... to each their own. Just thought I'd pass on my experience.

To sum up this trip...It was amazing.... Day 1- I decided to take the bus to Copa versus a taxi....very nice, air conditioned bus....much cheaper than taxi....Just longer....It took me about an hour and a half After showering, I hit the beach....weather was beautiful....got an amazing $14 massage and saw some eye candy... Interesting. I have visited Bogota and Medellin twice and never experienced any of those problems. Although to be honest I stuck to more upscale neighborhoods. Certainly I would feel the same way. Wonder how long ago those visits were?

I have a friend visiting me from the United States. Yesterday he went to withdraw money and his transaction was blocked. We called back to the bank in the US to find out what was going on. An unauthorized charge was made on his card in the US while he was in Brasil. He only uses this card for debit withdrawals. This was a red flag for the bank. The immediately cancelled the card. He has only been using the card since Monday. And sometime Thursday or Friday it was cancelled. I asked him if he could remember anything strange. He had gone into the HSBC branch on Rua de Assembleia in Centro the previous day at about 10:20AM. Just after the branch opened. No security guards. And when he inserted the card it was a bit difficult to slide in. (NOT AT ALL LIKE HIS VERY WELL USED LOVE CANAL THIS TRIP) And he pulled out the card before typing in his pin number. I wasn't with him unfortunately. This is the same thing that has happened to me twice over the years. Once at HSBC and once at Santander. I think there was a thin paper with a magnetic strip in the slot to copy the data. Once more, stick to well attended branches. Banco do Brasil normally has guards on duty at the entrance. Try to stick to business hours. Extra Supermarket has machines. So does Santos Dumont. Go somewhere where there are other customers in the branch. And definitely check the slots on the machines that they all look consistent.

Giving the legal right to marry is not the same as a full anti-discrimination law. There are differences. I do think the SCOTUS will eventually go that route but it is a process. I was very disappointed in Houston. I guess people were really worried gay men would be in women's restrooms. Very odd. As a gay man, I abhor women's restrooms.
