I probably have mentioned before when a beaver flew me in a Beaver in Alaska. A Beaver being a de Havilland bush aircraft (pun intended). The other beaver being a female type pilot. I managed to annoy her a bit. I offered to help but she pointedly told me no. Oh, well. I really didn't care if she was trimmed or not. Best regards, RA12 points

For anyone who's feeling overinformed and underarmed, here's a look at places where gun dealers outnumber museums and libraries. The rest of us are stuck in the states at the top of the list.1 point

I just googled "Ed Chenel" and, inter alia, found the this analysis of his email by snopes.com. Their analysis reads reasonably enough to me but then several NRA types have commented that the snopes folks are known liberal pinkos of the worse sort so maybe further research is in order. PS Mr. Chenel's email was first posted in 2001 so, if we project the murder rate percentage increase forward to the present, the entire Australian state of Victoria would be depopulated by now and there would few, if any, oldsters left in the whole of Australia. Do we have an Australian poster on Boytoy that can verify this for us? RA1, have you had occasion to fly Down Under in the last few years? Seems like some Aussie would have mentioned to you the mass slaughter going on, at least in passing.1 point

I should have made clear that Uber cannot come to GIG to pick up a customer. I did use Uber from GRU though. No Uber in Salvador, yet.1 point

I don't travel quite as much as you do. But, i have had taxis refuse to pick me up in enough cities to get a special glee every time I open my Uber app. It's like giving the finger to every NY, Chicago, Paris, Brussels, Beijing cabbie who drove past me. I did summon Uber via an app and it worked in precisely the same way as it does in the states. I could put in the exact address or have them come to where the GPS indicated that the phone was. Keep in mind that I had a Brazilian simcard/phone while I was there. My average wait for a car in the middle of Agenda Atlantica was 5 minutes. More than one, the car as waiting for me before I could get downstairs. Several times, there were two or three Uber cars picking up other guests. Leaving Saunas in SP and Rio, I occasionally stood around for a few minutes after settling the bill to wait for the Uber to arrive. TomCal mentions Easy Taxi, which I also downloaded an used in SP a couple of times. I like the convenience of not having to exchange cash that Uber offers. So I only used Easy Taxi on the occasions in SP where the Uber was more than 10 minutes away.1 point

Best method to get to Copacabana from GIG?
lookin reacted to SolaceSoul for a topic
If you have 45 minutes to an hour to spare, and you want to save money, then take the Real Airport Bus from GIG to Copa. It only costs about $6 USD a person. It is very comfortable and air conditioned, usually not very crowded and typically rides down Avenida Atlantica, or Rua Barata Ribeiro, a parallel street two blocks away, depending on the day. It will stop at the corner that your hotel or apartment is located if you ask the driver. It also picks up at the domestic airport Santos Dumont as well, for a cheaper rate. You catch the Real bus right outside baggage claim, the same area you'd catch the other buses or vans. Just look for bus signs and a sign for the Real bus to Copa. On my last trip there, I along with 3 other traveling friends took the Real bus instead of a taxi because we had way too much luggage for all 4 of us to fit in one car, and since we all arrived before 9 a, and couldn't check in until around noon, it made sense for us to take the scenic route on the bus. It was very convenient, and we used the extra reais we saved on the garotos at the sauna that night.1 point -
Thanks for the comment about Uber. Even though I travel more than two hundred thousand air miles each year and visit many different countries, I have never used Uber. Did you summon Uber while in Rio using an AP? Do they obtain your location via GPS or do you speak with an operator of sorts? If one were to be staying on Avenida Atlantica in Copacabana, how long is a typical wait for an Uber driver? Uber is obviously doing something right, considering the constant increase in the number of customer is has as well as the frequent compliments about the service. There is no logical reason I have rejected the idea of using Uber except that habits are hard to break.1 point

Oz, I applaud every word of yours in the above. You were candid, succinct, and logical! If one does not care for the photos posted in a particular thread, ignore and go elsewhere! I, too, "hate nasty negativity" and DO NOT participate here as well as at any of the sites {few as they are} that I frequent!1 point

...reminds me of this very, very hard, hot and handsome taxi driver in Salvador-- {Bahia} Brasil who came over during the afternoon, showered, and during our play offered up his hard, hot ass to receive a "sizzling rimming." During those times that aspect of sex did not appeal to me, so I failed to give him what he'd desired! Today I have a different "take" on this activity! These guys certainly possess some hard, hot crossed buns! Enticing indeed!1 point

I am confident that members from this forum who visit Rio have no plans to participate in the Olympics. I am also confident that no one from this forum plans to swim in Rio's Guanabara Bay. Therefore, although the information posted above concerning polluted water in Rio is interesting, the polluted water should not have a negative affect on forum members. As to the tap water being unclean, it depends on which report one reads. Some reports claim the tap water is unclean while other reports claim otherwise. To be safe, I plan to omit adding ice to drinking water or to drinks. I expect to continue visiting Brazil without any health issues related to polluted water from Guanabara Bay, in Rio de Janeiro.1 point
