    Bloom County 2015!!!

'Bloom County 2015': Berkeley Breathed Revives Comic StripFans of the well-loved comic strip Bloom County are celebrating this morning, after cartoonist Berkeley Breathed issued the first panels of his satirical strip in decades. Breathed won a Pulitzer Prize for his work on Bloom County back in 1987; two years later, he quit producing it. On Sunday, he posted a photo of himself to Facebook in which he sat in front of a computer screen with an empty cartoon template titled Bloom County 2015. "A return after 25 years. Feels like going home," he wrote. And on Monday, one of Breathed's central characters, Opus, awoke from his long slumber with a question: "That was some nap!! How long was I out, Milo?" "25 years." Breathed released the new strip via Facebook. The most popular comment on his post seems to sum up many fans' response: "And suddenly the world is back in alignment. Thank you Sir." Fans of Bloom County had been anticipating the strip's return — particularly after Breathed responded to a commenter's request for new material last week by writing, "Watch this space." The strip's return promises to reunite readers with Opus, Bill the Cat and other characters that were previously seen just in Breathed's two Sunday-only strips, Outland (1989-1995) and Opus (2003-2008). They're likely to have plenty to talk about: Bloom County, whose small-town characters often found absurdity in America's cultural and political life, returns as the country heads into a new presidential election season. It's unclear whether Breathed will syndicate his new work in newspapers; he recently recalled how an editorial dispute with a publisher had a direct role in his decision to quit cartooning in 2008. His Facebook postings, Breathed said earlier this month, are "nicely out of reach of nervous newspaper editors, the PC humor police now rampant across the web ... and ISIS." When Bloom County went idle in 1989, it was one of several clever and inventive comic strips, such as Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side, that were beloved by fans and yet were also comparatively short-lived. Today, devoted fans are treating its return as a small miracle. "As every day there's some part of my childhood dying off, this morning I awoke to see one part be brought back to life," a reader named John Lowry wrote on Facebook. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart Mr. Breathed, you made my day!" http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/07/13/422545636/bloom-county-2015-berkeley-breathed-revives-comic-strip

  5. A couple of months back, tomcal posted a link to an excellent video of gay history in the U.S. and how gays in American attained certain rights. For those who might be interested in worse horrors that gays had to face in England during the same time period, check out this video: After watching the above linked video, I believe most will be left with a feeling of disbelief at the way gays were treated and imprisoned in the U.K., a country that was supposedly a country of civilized people.

  6. Daesh (ISIS) tosses queers off rooftops and posts pro quality videos. Dentist shoots a lion and posts snapshot. Which causes media hoorah and internet meltdown? Dentist should have gone hunting Arab queers, I guess. Cheaper too. Don't need a US$50,000 game tag for that.

  7. Agree absolutely. The commentariat and public opinion fasten on this one guy and overlook that he is just a tiny illustration of the larger lesson about humankind's predation on everything. I posted this before: Earth has lost half of its wildlife in the past 40 years, says WWF Species across land, rivers and seas decimated as humans kill for food in unsustainable numbers and destroy habitats http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/sep/29/earth-lost-50-wildlife-in-40-years-wwf

    MH370 still a mystery

I think they've concluded there's only one missing 777, and that's Malaysian MH370. It looks like the number they've pulled is a maintenance number rather than a serial number but, as AdamSmith says, it should be unique to MH370. We'll know soon enough. If the piece they found is from MH370, it will confirm that they've been looking in the right place. Still plenty of ocean to search but, if they can tease any info at all from the flaperon and its location, along with ocean currents and any barnacles snagged en route, the search area may get narrowed a little bit. I've been impressed by how well they've used their snippets of data so far, and am hopeful they'll mine this one thoroughly as well.

    Madrid

OK. I returned to Black and White last night prepared to play. I ended up going to a nearby hostel (30 euros) with two boys -- yes TWO -- both Romanian (50 euro each). Beautiful boys, but the sex was very lackluster. No problem. My mistake is that I then returned to the bar to keep drinking with them. When I finally said good night and went to leave, one of the two followed me down the block imploring me to go with him again to the hostel. When I said no, he pushed me against a wall and reached into my pocket taking my cash and cards. I pushed back and wrestled him to the ground. Luckily, within seconds a taxi pulled up filled with under-cover cops and they restrained him and got my stuff back. I had to go to the police station to file a report -- very drunk and tired -- but I am happy it was not worse. Needless to say, I will not go back to B&W. Den of thieves and lousy sex. Stick to Sauna Adan. Safer and much better sex.

    Medellin

The guys on F4F, CB, C4 etc are all from Medellin and Cali. The hottest are from Cali. (believe me I asked!) None from Bogota. I don't speak any Spanish. I leave to go back to Bogota for 2 more days in the morning and if anyone has any suggestions there I'd appreciate them. My first couple days there were fruitless. Evidently Delta is starting daily non-stop service to Medellin and Cartagenia from Atlanta. They already have flights to Bogota. An open-jaw would be good to see both Medellin & Bogota or Cartagenia as one-ways between them are only @ $85.

  11. I just returned from a last minute 3-day work trip to Lisbon. The escort scene on gayromeo was thriving and very reasonable. I met up with a hot brazilian twink for 65 euros and a very hot polish masseur for 60 euros. The overnights were not expensive at all and may consider doing one next time i'm in lisbon. Was able to communicate very well via whatsapp or gayromeo online.
