The day started out very nice and cooled down and then it rained...And rained..And RAINED.... All good...I got to get over to Impanema before the rain him and met up with my very Brazilian friend who is going to take me to a Samba school and some gay club in the suburbs later....Let's see how that goes... I got to 117 around 4-4:30...Already a lot of action, there were definitely more clients than boys but I knew that would change before the night was over because of the weather.... Sao Paulo saunas = (1) Lagoa (usually and depending on what type guy you like), this place often has extremely great nights with lots of garotos. I have been to Brazil many times and I get to know the garotos fairly well. I have developed a sort of "sixth sense" about who is trustworthy for spending the night and who is not. If you were to invite a garoto you do not know well to spend the night with you, you could very well be disappointed, or more. On the other hand, if you are adventurous, you could have a great time. Another factor about taking a garoto to your hotel is that most Brazilian hotels do not allow visitors to a guests' room. There are ways around this. A somewhat different take here, as I welcome the side trips these threads often lead to. Some of my favorite excursions have been to places I wasn't planning to go. So thanks guys and I do hope you'll continue sharing your experiences and insights as the spirit moves.

Suggestion: Next time you venture out to a country, read what has been posted on this and other sites. A lot has been written about hotels allowing, and for the most part, not allowing guests. The Copacabana Atlantico for almost eight or nine years would allow locals in the rooms of the guests. A few years later, the administration began to charge a fee. Currently, I do not know its policy. But, as far as hotels in general, guests are not allowed. I write based on my previous reading of threads here which are now in the archives. The best way to avoid the hassle of having guests is to rent an apartment. I've done this in Berlin, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, and during my last visit to Rio de janeiro in 2011, my good friend and I rented and shared, and I had a couple of guests without any difficulties at all. Again, ask before leaving the States, and someone or many ones will respond. I know I've asked and have received, and I have given salient advice as well. Continue to enjoy yourself; continue to keep your "big head" and remain "SAFE!"

I have been fortunate to a few weekends in Bangkok over the last four months. I am a fan of Thailand and asian boys, and find the city easy to navigate and enjoy even in the hot humid summer. Hallo, gentlemen! Here I am, in Curitiba, Paraná -- Brazil. I arrived on Aug. the 27th, to attend a conference... also not a lot of time to go around. Anyway, here it is my report. (English is a foreing, too foreing languague for me: so excuse bad spelling, vocabulary and sintax). Hotel: I'm staying at the Hotel Mabú, at Praça Santos de Andrade. Very nice and central, very good service and facilities; a 5 stars hotel. And I had no problems recieving guests. Since my hosts provided the hotel, I do not know very much about prices: 200-150 € x day? It is not very cheap, sure. (Everything around here are at European price levels: books, clothing, restaurants...) City: pretty safe and clean by Latinamerican standards (I'm quoting a Brazilian colleague from Sao Paulo, now at Florianipolis). A nice, but small old town. Someting to see: beatiful Botanic Garden, the great Niemeyer bulding so called Museo do Oculo (Eye-museum, from the eye-shaped tower), Opera de Arame... nice, but nothing so special to justify a touristic visit. The must in Parana are the Iguaçu Waterfalls, in Foz do Iguaçu (one hour flight from Curitiba). The Mabu Hotels have a (good) resort there. Weather: some days winter cold (7º Celsius), some days Springtime (in the twenties range). The traveller should bring something hot if visiting this state in late August (Curitiba lays ca. 900 mts above sea level and it is far from the Equador). Food and drinks: as usual in Brazil, they like beef, and churrascos are good; I had a very tasty picanha. Fish meals are mediocre -- at least for an Spanish taste. Since Italian inmigrants are a significant share of the Paranaense population, Italian food is quite popular. There are a local, acceptable production of red wines... far below the Argentinian and Chilean (or, let us say, the Rivera del Duero or Rioja in Spain) wines. People: I have no problems in meeting local (young) people at Manhunt; as you may know, Brazilians like older men (at lest in my 50's). I read that I should probably NOT visit Meio after the point....I had already gone.... HATED IT....Too far out of the way for tourists...If I was a businessman who worked in downtown Rio, I would probably love it to go get a nut before heading home to the suburbs to the wife and kids...as a tourist, I personally don't understand why anybody would go past two perfectly good saunas to go to this one.... Most of the black guys are at the predominantly black clubs in Atlanta. If you went to a club in Atlanta that only had several of them, then you didn't go to one of these. Most of the clubs, gay and straight, are fairly (voluntarily) segregated that way. I own several properties in Atlanta and go there for business quite often. The club and bar scene there for Afrcian-Americans is not what it used to be, unfortunately. There used to be tons of masculine, well-built black men all in the club and bar scene, and the predominantly black clubs were a place to hear amazing music and see hot masculine men. Now? Thank you so much! Can you tell me more about getting around the prohibition on guests at hotels? I wasnt thinking about an overnight stay. Rather I had in mind a brief encounter in a more comfortable and controlled setting.

As someone pointed out in another thread, the cars are not expensive and I would normally hire a driver for the day or the night. I'd have them tour me around and spend time with me and take me wherever I wanted. In my thread here on Salvador, I think I listed my driver information but it has been a few years. I truly loved Salvador. I'm easily identifiable as a tourist as well. The drive did not mind waiting and when I didn't find a guy, he would ask if I wanted to try another one. He knew what I was looking for.

Lagoa is the one in Sao Paulo and it is great. The other one is also very good. In Salvador, there are some saunas but they are a bit more similar to Meio Mundo in appearance and in very rough parts of town. I would suggest that the guide goes with you. I know others will not agree but I felt better having my driver wait for me.

I think it was a very long weekend. My memory fades of the events other than his saying: "Present. Please. Present." Over and over and over again. His zero English and my zero Portuguese made for an interesting few days. As normal, I was on the phone with my Brazilian lady friend in NYC and she interpreted the conversations for us. But, the sex was great and I enjoyed him a great deal. I lost contact with him (name was Christian) and I have never seen him advertise again. I found him on one of the gay escort websites from Sao Paulo. My favorite time with him was a disco as he met up with all his friends and they were adorable as well. Of course, I wanted them all but he was not going to have that.
