Tealady hope you will enjoy a lot this trip... the saunas are quite lively (with lots of boys in need of extra money) lately - at least here in SP. On a side note about warnings, as the boys are eager to get more money, most will try harder to please the clients... but one or another can try to take advantage of you - so always be crystal clear about you want from the boy and how much you will pay for it. For the first time in 4-5 years one got me... After a programa with a very persistent boy, he made a scene and his price is R$ 500... I could have talked to the manager and get away paying the usual R$100, but since he pointed that I had not asked him how much it would cost (and he was right) I paid it...

I was waiting for a taxi today and I was looking for a credentialed or credenciado and was having a heck of a time finding one. Almost all of the taxis had lights on top and few had their locations on the rear quarter panels. I hadn't been aware of the changes taking place in the taxi business. This afternoon for lunch I took a friend via taxi from Copa to Ipa. We were talking in the cab and I asked the driver about the lack of credentialed cabs this morning. He told me that the drivers are going to apps on cell phones. I've heard of Uber but never used them on my infrequent visits to the States. He informed me that Uber has been banned in both Rio and Sao Paulo. But most of the drivers here are going away from the credenciado stands and using a site called EASYTAXI.COM It is downloadable from GooglePlay. And it shows you the three closest cabs available to where you are at. It has all of the driver's information on file. My friend has it and uses it when in Sao Paulo where he spend about half his time. Also when he was in Porto Alegre this past April. When I was in PoA in April, we had waits at times both at Mezanninu and back at the Qualty Hotel. This App would have certainly come in handy.

You did not say which sauna in Sao Paulo this event occurred. If this happened at Lagoa and if you are there again and that same garoto is present, you should tell the owner, Rodolfo, of the scam pulled on you. If you let Rodolfo know what happened, the garoto will be expelled from the sauna and will not be allowed to return until Rodolfo decides when he can return. Even if you believe the garoto's argument was valid in that you did not agree on a price in advance, it was not reasonable for the garoto to insist on being paid five times the normal rate. That is why Rodolfo should know what the garoto did to you, a client at his sauna. If it happened at Fragata, you don't have much recourse as that place is not run the same way as is Lagoa.

Since a medical doctor was killed by minors with knife wound at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, two weeks ago, there have been more reports of robbery at knife point - including a young man inside a train in Rio's center just 2 days ago. I don't know if there is a statistical raise in such incidents or the media is just enjoying the higher audience these kind of reports have now. I think the US. Gov recommendation on Health insurance copy is that for in case of a traumatic injury you can be rescued or transferred later to a private hospital (possible better - but not always) instead of staying in a public hospital (always overcrowded); Just as a illustration the risk of death by transport accidents in Brazil is almost equal as the one for homicides.
