  3. Whew..... For a moment, without my glasses on, all I saw was a blurry "Farewell Readers", and Adam smith.... My heart was racing with excitement as I thought, "could it be, could it Really be" ???? That crazy perverted Bitch is leaving the Boytoy realm ???? I immediately started to think about HOW I would redecorate her vacant Avatar spot, and what I would wear to assume the position of TOP (not in that sense) pussy Here ! But then as my glasses settled on my face I saw it, Alan Rusbridger...... Who the fuck is THAT ????? and WHO cares if he is leaving the Guardian ??? I didnt even know he Worked for that condom company anyway. Well Adam, welcome back ! I'll take down the gold lame' curtains from your avatar real soon.....

    Santiago, Chille

You might search for a previous thread on Santiago to which I contributed a few years ago. I spent a little time there on 4 or 5 journeys. Chile is a much more conservative society. I once travelled there with a younger boyfriend and while nothing was said, I noticed a somewhat chilly attitude in the hotel.

  6. HA! I called it! I so wanted to cut to the chase in my original post and discard the possibility of a female dalliance. Sadly I let my misguided sense of political correctness overwhelm my intuition. "Surely," says I to myself, "it's neither fair nor balanced just to assume any sexual scandal involving a prominent Republican is necessarily going to feature a teen aged boy somewhere under the sheets." Just goes to show you shouldn't second guess yourself w/o a good solid reason.

  7. It would support me dividing my time among NYC and Berlin and Tokyo for at least a year. Assuming I did not finally visit Thailand and disappear to the world.

    How you'll die on Mars

According to something I heard recently, the Egyptians were able to desalinize the sea water, grow veggies and live fairly comfortably on their voyages to such as South America (long before all those European Johnny Come Latelys started "finding" North America). Best regards, RA1

  10. ...The indictment, in US district court in Illinois, notes that between 1965 and 1981, Hastert worked as a high school teacher and coach in Yorkville, Illinois. The indictment then notes that Individual A, whom he is alleged to have paid, has known Hastert most of Individual A's life. In or about 2010, the indictment says, Hastert met with this person and discussed past misconduct by [Hastert] that had occurred years earlier. The indictment alleges that Hastert then agreed to provide this person $3.5m in order to compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct against them. http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/may/28/former-house-speaker-dennis-hastert-indicted "...a dead girl or a live boy." -- Edwin Edwards

  11. "if you want to have guests, you should know that they charge 100 Reais for every visitor." Thanks Meteor9876 for this warning. In fact, it represents a liberalisation in policy by the hotel! I stayed at the Ipanema Plaza Hotel (Golden Tulip Ipanema Plaza) about 6 years ago. The modernised rooms on the upper floors were extremely nice and the house-keeping service by a young man was very good. At that time, the hotel permitted no visitors to rooms whatsoever. This ban applied equally to male and female visitors. I noticed that the security staff intervened if a guest tried to take a local from the beach into the lobby and lifts. I had planned ahead and brought with me on holiday a young blond Argentine muscleboy-bottom so I wasn't bothered by the policy, tho I witnessed a presumably heterosexual man protesting volubly at his younger female friend being excluded.

    How you'll die on Mars

Probably what separates folks like you and folks like me. I had a friend who wanted to go to the moon (not Alice Kramden, though there were some similarities) and I couldn't see why she would want to live surrounded by a bunch of rocks. Guess I was fussier than she was about the nature of the adventure that lay ahead. Now if you told me there was some alien tail out there waiting to orbit me around a blue moon somewhere, I'd be strapping on a booster and racing you to the launch pad.

  15. I visited Rio two weeks ago. I stayed in the Ipanema Plaza Hotel (Golden Tulip Ipanema Plaza). It was ok, although I personally think it is too expensive for what you get. But if you want to have guests, you should know that they charge 100 Reais for every visitor. I booked a double room, but that didn´t help. I booked a guy, when he arrived, he had to show ID, I had to come down and they escorted me and the guy to my room. I had the impression that they don´t want to have a guest, so they make it really embarrassing for you. Sorry for the mistakes, my English is not so good, but I thought it might be interesting for other people here.

  16. Is this place still used by many posters to the forums? I stayed there more than ten years ago and it was only tolerable because of the liberal visitor policy. In the interim, all one needs do is read the reviews of this hotel on Tripadvisor. According to most reviews, the place is nasty and is in terrible disrepair. Some guests reported that their belongings were stolen by employees of the hotel. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g303506-d307969-Reviews-Atlantico_Copacabana_Hotel-Rio_de_Janeiro_State_of_Rio_de_Janeiro.html/BackUrl#REVIEWS When I visit Rio I stay at a different hotel. Every now and again I pass by the Atlantico Hotel. At night, one-third of the lights showing the name of the hotel are burned out. The burned out lights tell a lot about this run down hotel.

  17. 100 USD is a great deal. I still think a shitty hotel. But, I judge mainly based on Internet and when I was there, it sucked. Has it improved over the years? How are the other hotels in the area doing? All going down as well?
