OMG, NYC has been invaded by hoards of Bears.... And not only bears, they brought Cubs and Otters with them.... WHY you may ask ???? Well it seems that its URBAN BEAR WEEK here in NYC, and these bears appear Hungry and Horny...... Grandma has stocked herself with toothpicks and dental floss for her sudden, clandestine encounters. How do you tell the species apart ? Here is a little cheat sheet should you encounter one: BEAR: Any large, hairy man, usually self-identified as part of the Gay subculture, often found in Metropolitan areas. MUSCLEBEAR: a Bear sub-species defined by a fit and toned body, and usually appearing "shirtless" in public.. They appear to be Alpha males but are often Belly-floppers.... POLAR BEAR: A white or silver-haired Bear CUB: A young, or young-looking member of the Bear community. Usually the passive half of a Bear couple OTTER: A ":fuzzy" guy, too skinny to be a Bear but still a regular fixture at Bear bars and events2 points

Too many years of watching the sun rise in the east and set in the west. I am now a permanent squinter. Best regards, RA12 points

RA1's posts usually make sense. Sometimes though, it helps if you look at them sideways and squint real hard.2 points

For those who visit Rio and like the convenience of the Metro over taxis, here is good news. Of course, there could be another delay (there have been many) between now and next month when Line 4 is scheduled for completion. http://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/rio-real-estate/rio-de-janeiros-new-metro-line-4-on-track/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRioTimes+%28The+Rio+Times%291 point

I think that his comment makes sense. He indirectly commented on earlier posts (made by me and by others) wherein it was discussed that there isn't enough work for the garotos to keep them employed in ordinary jobs, hence the sauna work. The idiom he quoted also means garotos (or all persons) need to keep busy so that they will not be "idle" and possibly get into trouble. His point totally coincides with this thread1 point

For me, I'll always have a good time here. It's no different than in the U.S. When the police decide it's time to do a vice crack down. I just feel bad for the guys trying to make a living. $20 to you or me doesn't mean much, but to them it means eating for a few days. This stuff happens here in cycles. Next it will be the ladyboy clubs and then the girlie clubs. It will be back to normal soon enough. It's interesting with the smuggling situation. I watch a lot of CNN and BBC and see more on this subject than I do on Thai TV. It is showing up in the Bangkok Post. But it's a lot like the religious issues in the south of Thailand, it's a long way from Bangkok and locals don't get worked up about it.1 point

The two guys in your photo are supposed to be twin brothers. There are lots of photos of them throughout the internet. I wonder if they really are twins. They do not look alike, in my opinion. They perform in various cities in the world. Here is another link to one of many found on the internet. http://thenewsgayper.com/2014/07/25/ohalley-brothers/ "The Brazilian twin brothers, Bachir Mendez Maroff and Fabiano Mendez Maroff known under their DJ/Producer moniker the O’Halley Brothers have become rising stars in the House and Circuit club scene around the world. Their consistency in maintaining a “Peak Hour” house sound throughout their performances give the audiences exactly what they want. In addition to performing at World Pride in Toronto, Canada, they’ve also performed in London, Zurich, Milan, Amsterdam, Ireland, Prague, Greece, Turkey, Kiev and throughout Russia numerous times. Currently based in Moscow, Russia the twins are getting ready to make their US debut in the fall. They recently signed an overall management deal with Nader Group International in Los Angeles, California. With their talent, showmanship, remixes and original productions the sky is the limit for these Brothers, but they’ll always remain humble."1 point

I also hope things swing around and you are able to enjoy your visit. Best regards, RA11 point

Planetime, there's something of an international flap going on right now about huge numbers of Muslim refugees/economic migrants from northeastern Burma & Bangladesh heading toward Australia. Some are using Thailand as a transit route to Indonesia. The government in Bangkok is coming under pressure to stop 'overlooking' human trafficking. I understand the authorities have sacked a number of low level to mid-level police and army commanders for negligence/complicity and is making a show of clamping down. Possibly the out of the ordinary police attention to the goings on in the bars is a by product of police commanders doing what they can to demonstrate they're getting on message and won't embarrass higher ups. In any case, I hope things settle down soon enough for you to enjoy the remainder of your stay.1 point

This is true. I personally know several garotos who make only 50 to 75 reais per day after 8 - 10 hours of hard labor. If the labor involves outdoor construction or other outdoor work, the garotos get no work for that day, if it rains. And, the garotos do not get paid for the day. Going back to the idiom, "half a loaf is better than none" applies to garotos and the saunas.1 point
