A bit back, there was a discussion about the price of Viagra in a different forum. I couldn't find it, so I thought I would use my new trip to Bankgok as a place to post some info. I saw a posting somewhere if you were looking for Viagra in a regular chain pharmacy, you would need doctors prescription, but if you went to a small neighborhood pharmacy you might find it without prescription. I asked my friend at one of the bars on Soi Twilight about this. There is a pharmacy just across the street. He said no problem. I go over and get it for customers all the time. Just give me $48.00 for 4. He was gone 2 minutes and I had a box of 4. Compared to the $42.00 each Walgreens wanted, glad I waited. Interesting sidelight, when boys see you buying it, they become very frisky...hummmm Backing up a bit, I left Ft. Lauderdale for Bangkok last Monday. With all the cold and snow in the east (60's in Fl.) time to head for the warmer climes of the massage palors of Bangkok. As I get older each trip seems to get longer. You know, MsGuy, I've been thinking the exact same thing and you have put it much more elegantly than I could express it. I would indeed feel blessed if I could someday write a sentence in which the words carried their own rhythm along with them so that everyone who read it would hear just what I did when I wrote it. Some years ago, I posted another sentence which was a verse strung together and it was so awkward that no one realized what it was. Or, at least, were too kind to mention it.

Well it started out as a verse: He abjured the serial comma And it wasn't hard to see That sooner more than later A frisson would come to be For I had some things to say to him And no doubt he to me But if punctuation had no role It would drive me up a tree. And then I thought I'd take you up on your earlier challenge: So I turned it into a sentence that lacked a serial comma and, since I wasn't sure what a serial comma was, I left out all the commas one after the other. I thought perhaps it would be understandable without any commas at all. Clearly it was unclear. Its awkwardness and lack of intelligibility has given me a new respect for commas so I plan to go back to using them, liberally, serially, and, perhaps, in places, where I did not, before. And thanks for indulging some antics.

I'm off to Habana, Cuba next Saturday the 28th of February 2015, on my People-to-People program. Although I'll be involved in most of the prescribed itinerary, I will have time to venture out on my own and to do what I desire. The only caveat is that I can't play the tourist role and go to beaches or purchase the usual "touristy items," etc. On my first trip sometime in the 90s, the small group of us did go to the beach for a day and was free to roam and play during our time there. We were free after 2 or 3 P.M. each day as well. Too bad that I did not take advantage of this: I was at a very "different place" when it came to scouting out in foreign lands. Ah but, lookin, if you recite your sentence aloud in a normal speaking voice you'll find that you automatically insert pauses and changes of emphasis and rhythm that clarify its meaning for your listener. For these natural verbal changes of rhythm, etc., the comma and the rest of our inventory of written indicators, are the poorest of substitutes. I'm told that even the convention of inserting a blank space between written words is a medieval invention to help semi-literate monks read their Latin texts.
