To Wayout's most excellent list, I'll add one more reason people might not come to the defense of someone in a flame war on an anonymous website: It's ineffective at best, and incendiary at worst. In a decade of infesting these sites, I've never once seen a response to a troublemaker, directly or indirectly, bring anything but more trouble. The only thing I've ever seen work is complete indifference to the miscreant. There's just nothing worse for someone looking to stir the pot than to find the pot completely empty. So I find it a bit puzzling that folks still think the way to end a flame war is to add a few more flames, if not their own then some borrowed from a so-called defender. If someone can link to a single thread where that approach has worked, I'll gladly admit the error of my ways. I can find threads, lots of them, where someone who's been attacked turns around and attacks the attacker. That's fine, but it serves a different purpose from bringing an end to the conflict. It may make the counter-attacker feel more powerful, it may release some testosterone, and it may provide some entertainment for those who enjoy a train wreck. But it won't end the kerfuffle. Not permanently, anyway, though it will for the duration of the inevitable time out. Personally, if someone gets a kick out of prolonging a state of war on a website, I'm not about to get in his way. In my earlier days, I tried suggesting disengagement as a way to end the hostilities, but I can't think of a single case when the advice was taken. So, rather than turn into a nudge, I figure benign bemusement remains my best bet.3 points

My best friend's ex is being a great host. Had two days of regular tourist activity, one of them is an all day beach trip. While Rio's beaches are easy on the eyes, they are mostly for walking and people watching, not great for swimming due to pollution, strong currents and waves. We went to two rather deserted beaches 2.5 hours drive from São Paulo, finally had a couple swims in the ocean. Today is a free day, after 3 days break, looking forward to visiting saunas again. Hit Fragata around 5:15 as I remember the place starts a little early than Lagoa. It's still pretty quiet, a dozen boys inside, none stands out. Sat at a good spot watching boy parade, not much happens until 6pm, still rather slow. And the body search for boys is still in place, they would go in a curtained out area to get searched by a big black dude. I started to think perhaps I should bail at 6:30 and go to Lagoa instead. Still slow at 6:30, but as I got up to check out, a pair of decent looking boys walked in, not exactly must have good looking, but good enough to get my hopes up again. Decided to stay. About 7 now, the parade picks up pace a little, in walking a very nice looking light skinned boy, curly hair, slim, compact and gorgeous face. Glad I stayed. Caught the boy's eyes later after he checked in and changed. He had some spots on his lips, and apologizes for can't French kiss. I probably should have given up then, but his hugs and little touches are endearing, the completely smooth body overpowered my instinct. After he confirmed he would go passivo, I decided to go with him anyways, he only asked for 80. Got a suite, rather looking forward to the fun time. Turns out the boy probably is desperate for money and overstated his versatility. His ass is so tight, he can't even take a finger all the way. He admitted sheepishly after we tried several times unsuccessfully that he doesn't like to get fucked. So this is a rather disappointing encounter. Well, so cheap anyways. As I went to take shower, I noticed a new cute dark boy went into the steam room, would totally check him out if I haven't finished tonight. Walked around a little before leaving, there were more new faces since I went upstairs. Another dark boy is also quite interesting. Not a bad night. got a dinner party to go to tomorrow, I consider it the price to pay for two wonderful days with my paulista friend. probably can't hit sauna again until Sunday. Fragata is having a party on Sunday. So I likely won't get to Lagoa until next week. Wonder what I have missed.2 points

Wow. Martha Stewart's Gingerbread 'Downton Abbey' https://www.yahoo.com/diy/changing-the-gingerbread-game-the-gingerbread-105534501290.html http://www.marthastewart.com/1096452/behind-scenes-gingerbread-abbey?xsc=synd_ydiy_article_gingerbreadabbey1 point

I've always enjoyed Martha Stewart and can't think of anyone else who would tackle a gingerbread Downton. Gum paste aside, it was fun to fantasize foraging the facade from foyer to finials. That is, until I read that she attached the latter with wire. Feh! Julia Child sure wouldn't have done it. I've been through The Joy of Cooking cover-to-cover and never saw 'wire' listed as an ingredient. Wine, certainly. Even woodchuck. But not wire. Definitely glad I didn't follow up on my initial impulse to ask la Stewart to whip up a mouthwatering meringue of Jimmy the Footman, complete with a luscious lobber. Lord knows what she'd have done with that.1 point

So what YOU are saying is that she uses her Pussy as a scratching post for her Cat's ? Gotta give it to that Martha, she is a clever one !1 point

While I don't participate in the other site any longer (other than being an occasional peeping tom), I think there are many reasons why people don't come to the defense of someone being bullied on that site. While none of the reasons may be very satisfying or even valid, I think it is useful to try to understand some of the dynamics and reasoning behind these types of situations. Some people actually enjoy the whole kerfuffle between the two people and are immensely entertained by it so naturally they don't want it to end and they just sit in the audience and eat their popcorn. They may also feel both parties are big boys and can handle things themselves without anyone interfering. There are those who don't even see it as cyber bullying because of specific nature of the site or that it may not raise to the level they feel meets that definition (their own definition of course). Then there are those that are fearful of providing any public support because of being attacked themselves. While difficult for some of us to understand, there are a wide range of sensitivities out there where someone really can not handle confrontation, difficult situations or being attacked (even on an relatively anonymous cyber board). Others feel that giving any public support just gives the bully exactly what he is after...attention and they refuse to "feed the troll". And then there are those that see it strictly as an owner/admin responsibility to deal with the situations and leaves it to them to handle it (or not). It should also be considered, that there may be support in ways not public that can be provided. Some may elect to use the "report post" button for those comments they feel cross the line or may even message the owner/admin to protest something written. While none of the above may be very satisfying or even useful to you at this point, it may help give some idea as to the variety of reasons why the public support wasn't what one would hope for or expect to receive.1 point

Not me. I want my hotel next to a hustler bar. But the air conditioned part is a must. Slow rotation ceiling fans are a deal breaker. "Bowled over" does seem overly aggressive, I agree. Can we all agree to substitute the phrase "sweetly seduced"? And maybe drop that resist part?1 point

Thanks for the Guardian link, AS. If you're a business owner in Russia, how can you sanely respond to this but by squireling as much capital as possible out of the reach of the Kremlin? When even a whale like Yevtushenkov can't protect himself from this kind of shit, the lesser fish have to be terrified.1 point

Colombia in November
JAYBLK reacted to episevilla for a topic
Hi, my friends. I spent four weeks in Colombia, mainly in Medellín but I visited again Cali and Manizales. As always, one have only to start Grindr, Scruff and those apps to get a lot of messages of (usually) young men eager to meet an older gentleman. Being hairy seems to be a plus. Some of them offer their services more or less openly. Many are just gay guys looking for older people, as it happens in the baths as well. A few ones are ready to accept a couple of pesos to pay the cab, or to have dinner with their newly found friend. Some especial guy, of course, is open to be treated very well... The guys I met there covered all these categories... I rented an appartment in a nice quarter: Laureles (there are to main residential, safe areas in Medellín, Laureles and El Poblado). I paid around 650 euros, which is (locally) quite expensive, but the place was for me OK (with cleanning and fresh sheets and towels every two days). A little bit noisy, since the building is close to an important avenue, but it is located in a very green area, with a big shopping mall at a very short walk. Lots of amt teller everywhere (it is the better way to get cash). By the way, at every supermarket there is a drugstore where Viagra is sale free... I mean, without any prescription. This trip I discovered Fercho Masajes... A male brothel pratically, with good looking young guys for every taste (at 70.000 COP = 29 USD). This is the most similar place to a Brazilian sauna. I add some pics of guys offering their services for $$ #1: masseur at Toby Bath House #2: Alfonso (Prepago Medellín at Hornet) #3: Oswaldo (Fercho Masajes) #4: Andrés (freelance Masseur) But this is just a short selection... Many guys I met are freebies1 point -
The Guardian said this back in September: "...Analysts said the moves against Vladimir Yevtushenkov this week looked like a raid on his business by Kremlin-connected forces, and were a sign of an intensifying battle for a "shrinking pie" of resources." http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/sep/17/oligarch-yevtushenkov-arrest-deepens-fears-russian-economy Guardian or some other paper speculated much as you did, MsGuy, that this new danger to those on the inside could eventually, maybe not too far off either, be a big factor in Putin's undoing, if it comes to that.1 point

Adam's link mentions that a certain Vladimir Evtushenkov has been cleared of charges. This has been one of the odder stories coming out of Russia this year. I suspect if it weren't for the Ukraine blow-up and the fall out from that, it would have gotten more coverage. The odd part is that Evtushenkov is one of the loyal, regime friendly oligarchs that form a critical pillar of support for Putin. While he wasn't one of the top tier super-oligarchs. he was a solid 2nd tier multi-billionaire and clearly a player in the Kremlin. Then suddenly he was not. As I understand the story, another faction of the Kremlin elite coveted his controlling interest Bashneft, a middle rank oil producer (& good source of hard currency earnings). They made a low ball bid, he turn them down and, presto, the police crashed his door, Bashneft was seized by the state (to be sold for pennies on the dollar to guess who) and Evtushenkov was held virtually incommunicado until he agreed to let bygones be bygones and acquiesce to the loss of his company, (After all he still has several billion bucks worth of assets still under his control.) All this came down in a period of 3 or 4 months. Now a Russian oligarch taking it in the neck ain't nothing new but before now it's always been some knot head who thought he could cock a snoot at the regime. But Mr. Evtushenkov was loyal regime insider. And grifters in Russia elbow their way into successful private businesses all the time. But regime insiders are supposed to be immune from all that shit. What the fuck happened here? Granted that Russia under Putin is a lot like a group of Mafia bosses trying to govern a country, but still, when the individual bosses start making each other 'offers you can't refuse', that shit can go south really fast. Even the Italian Cosa Nostra in America learned that internal gut fighting was not good for business. Remember these guys have still got to run the country. I would think that right now keeping the state functioning is a difficult enough task w/o having to fend off a dagger in the back every time you go to the office. Personally I took the Evtushenkov episode as the canary in the mine showing that the situation inside the Kremlin is a lot more fragile (& even more dis-functional) than it appears on the outside. Just my 2 cents worth. That and $1.65 will get you a cup of weak coffee at my local truck stop. Tip not included. And sorry for wandering off topic.1 point

And cute, shirtless young hitch hikers anxious to practice their English. Don't forget the hitch hikers. More seriously, your unpleasant friend is echoing a lot of people. As cracks open in the exile block (& Obama demonstrated exactly how to hit its fracture lines), other interests are finding room to push forward more forcibly.1 point

It is no fun getting lost in any city, especially a city like Sao Paulo. For other readers who might visit Fragata or if you use the Metro again (instead of the bus), and if you get lost, just ask any Brazilian you pass while walking "where is MacDonald's?" That is a landmark often used to locate less known places (like Fragata). Also, in addition to the tall MacDonald's sign, there is another large and tall sign for Banco Itau (the bank with the large ugly orange painted building) which is another landmark very close to Fragata. Both MacDonald's and Bank Itau are near the corner of Reboucas and Enrique Schaumann. From there, Fragata is just a little walk. If you locate either one of these landmarks, getting to Fragata is easy. Here is a link to the map that shows the aerial view of the metro station in relation to the location of Fragata. https://www.google.com.br/maps/place...c8e1977879a092 This information will be helpful for future visits to Fragata. -1 point

I am back from Brazil and thought I would give a report of my last couple of night while there and also report on an unexpected and unusual occurrence while at the airport, leaving Brazil. Lagoa was, as usual, not busy on Monday night. There were only a few clients and garotos. I really did not expect much because of the day of the week. There is always next visit to Brazil to see Lagoa on a Wednesday and Friday when it is usually busy and fun. I enjoyed the short visit at Lagoa, somewhat, then decided to make another visit to Fragata. Fragata was about the same as Lagoa in that Monday was not a busy night to visit. I stayed there a short while then went to dinner. Tomcal mentioned in his recent post about the new airport Terminal 3 in Sao Paulo. I agree. The terminal is quite modern, with lots of shops and lots of restaurants. Everything is nice and shiny and cheerful. An extraordinary thing happened while I was checking in for my flight. I heard a male voice call out my name in the funny way my name is pronounced in Brazil. I looked up and saw a former sauna rent boy, I used to know, working behind the counter checking in passengers. I was surprised to see him working at the airline and quite hesitant to say anything to him considering how we knew each other. However, since he spoke to me first (by calling me by my funny sounding name in Portuguese), I thought it okay to talk and acknowledge him from a different venue. His face lit up and I knew that he was very pleased to see me. After checking me in for the flight (in Brazil Americans cannot check in on line and get a boarding pass), he reminded me that my flight was not due to leave for almost two hours. He then said he could take a break if I would meet him in one of the new fancy restaurants in the new terminal. Of course, I agreed. This particular guy had been one of my favorite sauna guys until I lost contact with him about six years ago. Before we lost contact with each other, I saw him often and once took him to Buenos Aires. That trip was his first time on an airplane. He is now married and has a child. He did not want anything and did not ask for anything. He just wanted to talk. I am very happy that he got out of the sauna business and now has a family and appears to be happy. We exchanged phone numbers and email addresses before I went out to the gate to catch my plane. I already received text messages from him and an e-mail. He was not just a simple encounter in the sauna. He was special from most garotos in a sauna. Brazil can create such fond memories, if you allow them to happen.1 point
