    Bangkok in August

Saturday night turned out to be a lot of fun. Not in a sexual kind of fun night, but a night where everyone just seemed to be in very good moods. I was really concerned about rain at this time of the year, but it hasn't happened yet. A 2 minute shower twice. So Saturday night I was surprised to see so many people out. Lots of traffic, restaurants doing ok, very busy for low season. I went to Soi Twilight to hang with my friends. Low season also brings lower temperatures. It has been really pleasant at night to hang at the outdoor bars. I don't usually go to the shows because I have seen then so often and drinks are expensive. But with the Govt crackdown , they have had to take out the fuck part of the shows. Hot Male is doing 3 shows a night, because they are shorter now. Most other clubs are still 2 shows. I understand upstair show clubs have to be closed at 1am, so noticed some shows are now midnight rather 12:30. I decided to go to the 10:30 show at Hot Male. It started off with a couple of traditional Thai dances. Boys wearing thongs with little wrap around skirts. Then they had hot wax show, fluorescent painted boys dance. They did a number with 2 boys wearing jeans and vest. Like each other , undress, suck each other off. So yes, there is full nudity. Big cock show. So much for little Asian theory. Then of course they had the obligatory drag queen. Not usually my thing, but as I said earlier, people were in good moods. She found a few Taiwanese boys to lock in on, and it was hilarious. My best friend manages things at the bar downstairs and half way through the show, he came up and sat with me. So I got a lot of translation. Drinks were 320 compared to 100 outside. When my friend sat down, he ordered a beer. They didn't put slip in the bin. I thought that's good, because I would have had to pay for it. When the show was over. We were talking to a Mamasan that I am friends with, and the bin disappeared. Free is rare in Thailand, but it was appreciated. After the show, I went down to Dicks for a bite to eat. Other shows going on, so I was the only customer. Fast service. They were busier after shows got out. Went back to Hot Male to hang for awhile . Good crowd. I've seen less in high season. The boys were just all in very good moods. They were playful, seductive, putting on their best, I need to make some money tonight faces. Again it amazes how these boys remember things from past trips. I had 2 boys ask me "where is your American friend." That being TotallyOz. We hung there a couple of times this past summer. Oz you do make an impression with these boys wish I could be as playful. Midnight is usually the end of the evening for me, but ended up staying till 2. Just a lot of laughs being had. They stay open till 3am on weekends and usually little earlier weekdays. Another, how do they remember. Went to get taxi back to my apt. Driver walks up and says, I will take you. You live at xxxx. I said yes. He said he took me a couple times this past summers then he asked me were my Vietnamese friend was. Wow. I still use the, I don't remember what I had for breakfast line. It's 6:30am Monday as I type. Just a beautiful sunrise. I have a top floor, corner apt. Great view of sunrise, and sunset. But starting cloudless, which means hot. So I guess it's off to the pool, some shopping and a massage.

    Prague ... July 31.

Just back from a weekend in Prague. Great time! Visited Temple on Thursday and Friday night. It seemed very quiet on Thursday night, but it was the week after pride, so we didn't stay long. Busier on Friday night. Couple of cute guys. Although some seemed pre-booked by customers who didn't arrive until later in the night? Saturday in Escape. Great time. Cute new boys and shows all night.

  6. S.J. in Wikiquotes... I have Bright's disease and he has mine.A patient confronts his doctor, in a cartoon printed in Judge magazine (November 16, 1929) "Great-grandfather died under strange circumstances. He opened a vein in his bath." "I never knew baths had veins," protested Gabrilowitsch." "I never knew his great-grandfather had a ba—" began Falcovsky derisively."The Idol's Eye", The Most of S. J. "Aw, now, Moms," I comforted her, "it’s no worse than playing the piano in a call house.""Strictly from Hunger", The Most of S. J. Perelman (1992) p. 45 The worst disgrace that can befall a producer is an unkind notice from a New York reviewer. When this happens, the producer becomes a pariah in Hollywood. He is shunned by his friends, thrown into bankruptcy, and like a Japanese electing hara-kiri, he commits suttee."Strictly from Hunger", The Most of S. J. Perelman (1992) p. 47 Only the scenario writers are exempt. These are tied between the tails of two spirited Caucasian ponies, which are then driven off in opposite directions. This custom is called "a conference"."Strictly from Hunger", The Most of S. J. Perelman (1992) pp. 47-48 I guess I’m just an old mad scientist at bottom. Give me an underground laboratory, half a dozen atom-smashers, and a beautiful girl in a diaphanous veil waiting to be turned into a chimpanzee, and I care not who writes the nation’s laws."Captain Future, Block That Kick!", The Most of S. J. Perelman (1992) p. 71 In pulp fiction it is a rigid convention that the hero’s shoulders and the heroine’s balcon constantly threaten to burst their bonds, a possibility which keeps the audience in a state of tense expectancy. Unfortunately for the fans, however, recent tests reveal that the wisp of chiffon which stands between the publisher and the postal laws has the tensile strength of drop-forged steel."Captain Future, Block That Kick!", The Most of S. J. Perelman (1992) p. 72 Under a forehead roughly comparable to that of the Javanese or the Piltdown man are visible a pair of tiny pig eyes, lit up alternately by greed and concupiscence. His nose, broken in childhood by a self-inflicted blow with a hockey stick, has a prehensile tip, ever quick to smell out an insult; at the least suspicion of an affront, Perelman, who has the pride of a Spanish grandee, has been known to whip out his sword-cane and hide in the nearest closet. The Best of S. J. Perelman, Introduction (1947) The Introduction was written under the name "Sidney Namlerep". Before they made S J Perelman they broke the mold. The Best of S. J. The Rising Gorge (1961) p. 183 The main obligation is to amuse yourself. As quoted in I Seem to be a Verb (Bantam Books, 1970), p. 62 Button-cute, rapier-keen, wafer-thin and pauper-poor is S.J. Perelman, whose tall, stooping figure is better known to the twilit half-world of five continents than to Publishers' Row. That he possesses the power to become invisible to finance companies; that his laboratory is tooled up to manufacture Frankenstein-type monsters on an incredible scale; and that he owns one of the rare mouths in which butter has never melted are legends treasured by every schoolboy. 8. I spent 5 weeks in Cuba and 3 of them in Havana last year. I flew to Mexico City, bought a cash ticket, converted my US bills (at my bank before I left) and was on my way! Cuba is a love/hate country. There is so much potential for it to be the premier destination for the region but policies in both Cuba and the US prevent that from happening. As for guys, woooof. I've been to all 7 continents and 34 countries and no place has quite a supply of amazing looking guys as Cuba does. But, I am partial to that look. There are a few gay bars popping up in Havana now and the street scene is really active in a few locations. You do need to exercise caution though. Twice I was walking back from the bar at night and my date was stopped by security or the police and asked to see ID. Also, walking by the cruising areas I passed a glance at a couple of guys but I wasnt really interested. They followed me for a couple of blocks while I was walking home for the night and begging for a night in bed with me, and a plain clothes policeman noticed and arrested them. Planetromeo is a great option, but be aware that internet service is very expensive if you don't have access to it at your job or university. It was about $5/5CUC per hour at the two government run internet cafes. In a country that averages $30 a month in wages, internet is truly a luxury. In old town there is parque central. It is near the Capitol Building. I noticed several working boys sitting around on the benches waiting for a conversation. Also, across the street in front of the Hotel Inglaterra there is a tourist bus that can take you to Micayito Beach. Its a gay beach with LOTS of activity. Be careful of the police though. Needless to say, I was impressed by the lack of swimwear and abundance of tighy whities used for swimming trunks. The boys know what they are doing for sure when they get wet Food is an issue and unfortunately Cuba ranks as the worst place I've ever been when it comes to options and quality. Accommodations are really interesting. http://www.cuba-junky.com/, a great website to find Casa Paticulars, was where I found most of my lodging. Casas averaged $25-$30 a night. Sometimes breakfast is included, sometimes not. Be aware you are staying in people's actual homes a lot of the time. There are options that are more private though. I much preferred to stay in Vedado instead of the slightly cheaper and dirtier Centro and the overpriced and too touristy Old Havana. Vedado is where most of the cruising and gay life happens. Near Calle 23 and the Malecon, there is a bar called Humbolt 52. It is the first and I think only fully gay bar in town. I love Havana for its grittiness, yet relative safety. The scene is very young, and feels of a different age. As an American, it is very nerve wracking to carry around thousands of dollars due to lack of access to our banking system. You wait in lines EVERYWHERE it seems and the bureaucracy is apparent everywhere. If you would like to have an amazing gay tour guide, I highly recommend Luis. http://www.gaycubatourguide.com/about-me/ He is a professional and not an escort by any means. Don't use him to find boys, but his services in getting acquainted with the city, finding a gay friendly casa, and general friendship are amazing. I miss Cuba. It certainly has made an impression on me in many ways. As a tourist, it can feel that you are a walking ATM sometimes. Poor countries have this affliction and Cuba is no exception. Touts are everywhere in Old Town. I spent about $50 a day staying in decent Casas, eating at the more pricey and tastier privately owned restaurants and buying a couple of drinks at the bar. Sometimes that bumped up to $80 depending on the date for the night. The country is changing in some ways very fast, and in others, painfully slow. Give it a try.
