I'm sure your heart is in the right place, as it usually is, but I can't get behind the above statement. In my opinion, respect for others is the default position and disrespect should follow only when it is earned. It would sure make the world more pleasant. Ojibear makes some very good points. It's no burden at all for me to call folks what they'd like to be called, and not call them what they don't like to be called. Why wouldn't I respect such a request?2 points

I'm a Native North American (Anishinaabe) and given the history of abuse of Native Americans, broken treaties, poverty, and stereotyping of "Indians", reducing us to caricatures adds insult to injury. There are no sport teams called the New York Jews or the San Francisco Chinamen. I don't think it's overly PC, just a sign of respect.2 points

Personally, I don't care. I believe the acceptance of gays in mainstream society took place so fast because of Hollywood and the TV industry. They kept showing loveable gay characters and their ratings didn't go down so they kept pushing the envelop. I think the more ads the world sees the better. I think the more gay characters on TV, the better. I think Ellen has done a lot for the gay rights movement. I wish I had more gay characters on TV when I was a kid. I do remember Dynasty and the gay son. I thought, "wow, there are others." Honestly, I wasn't so sure there were others till I saw him. I remember watching the show and just dying to see a scene with him in it. They disappointed as he wasn't a big character on there and his gay life was not discussed very much. But, I loved seeing him.2 points

Spain died. Chile killed them 2-0 with even 6 minutes of stoppage time in the second half. One of the biggest shockers in WC history in the opinion of the announcers. La Furia Roja were more tranquil and calm than a fury. And as far as the red, the must be the figurative blood of their side that they left on the green pitch of the Maracana. Fireworks here as one of Brasil's prime challengers is out of the competition with 2 straight losses. I think Germany still has the strongest team in the Cup, but we'll see.1 point

I'm pretty sure I missed out on a couple of wonderful opportunities in high school from a fear of exactly this happening. (sigh)1 point

As anyone might imagine, I love engines or most anything with moving parts (that includes some of my favorite escorts). The steam engine captured my attention as a small boy and I even had a working model that used electricity to heat the water but the steam made the "wheel" go around. Obviously, the biggest drawback to the steam engine is the enormous amounts of water it uses. The fuel use is pretty economical. Bill Lear experimented with a replacement product that he called Learium which basically was a liquid product that could be used, condensed and then used again in a never ending cycle. Sorry to say they never overcame the technical problems. As a side note, a classmate of mine's father was one of the test recipients of the 1967 Plymouth that had a turbine engine. I was not old enough to drive when he showed it to anyone with interest at our school but I do remember hearing it run (fairly quiet in the grand scheme of things) but it could hardly get out of sight without needing more fuel, like all turbines today (so far). Best regards, RA11 point

Allstate Insurance has new "gay" ad
boiworship reacted to MsGuy for a topic
It isn't just teener boys Allstate doesn't like. After my grandfather retired, he took up selling Allstate part time to keep busy. After a few warnings, Allstate pulled his franchise because he kept issuing policies to (qualified) black folks instead of shifting them over to much more expensive assigned risk companies. Not saying Granddaddy wasn't racist but he knew crap when he smelled it. He just refused to go with the flow even if it cost him his business. LOL, I guess the take-away here is that Gays are more profitable customers than teenage boys and African Americans.1 point -
McDonald's: America's Least Favorite Major Fast Food Chain

Interesting. Odd that McD's comes in below KFC, which I believe must put out competitive bids for chickens with the lowest meat-to-bone ratio. Lots more flesh on Popeye's or Bojangle's chicken by comparison. Also agree Starbuck's coffee always tastes burnt. From buying their beans in the past, my theory is they over-roast them in order to be able to buy variable-quality beans, to put it nicely, and mask the substandard quality. Concur that Caribou and Peet's tend to be much better.1 point
