The incomparable Lennie conducting (after reflecting on) the Ode to Joy... ...with the Vienna Philharmonic, possibly the finest machine ever put together by the hand and mind of man. I had thought the recording conducted by Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt leading the same orchestra was the sine qua non, but just stumbling across these Youtube bits makes me reconsider. Holy shit. Just noticed he does not even have the fucking score in front of him. Cojones. Brilliance.

Having been to Rio on multiple occasions, I have to say, I love venturing out into the wild unknown. One of my favorite places is the Rio Scenarium. It is such a cool place where you can dance and eat and relax in the midst of antiques and clocks and sofas from years gone by. The place is charming and on one visit, my friend from the USA told me it was his favorite place on earth! I'm sorry to hear of your health issues. But you are maintaining a positive and proactive stance with regard to this problem. I am hoping there will be a cure or a new treatment for your illness. Yesterday I finally took the plunge and booked my flight to Prague for early August. So I'll try and enjoy the city in the spirit of Tomcal. All the best!

Tom, as I read your poignant post, I applaud you for your sincerity, honesty, and for 'ALL' that you've rendered here. Strange: an acquaintance of mine who sent me an email today asked me if I've ever met you. This Brit met you in Rio at one point and was impressed. Also, you have been in my thoughts recently, for there haven't been any posts! Now I know and am sorry that you will be taking another road! Riosul's sentiments are mine. I wish you the utmost best in carrying on now as well as in the future despite your illness!!

I went to Soi Twilight tonight and ate at Dick's Cafe and then went to 3 bars. All the drinks are same prices as before. LOL No special prices. Dream Boys is 400 baht. I went to X-Size and they had a very nice selection of boys. Something for a bit of everyone. Drinks were 350. Boys all said it has been slow and they need money. I went to Hot Male. The place had 4 customers. More than any bar so far. They had a nice selection of boys but they all said things were slow too. A friend from the USA has a BF there and since I was in the area I thought I would drop by and buy him a drink and give him a tip. I bought him a drink and gave him 500 baht (15 US) as I know things are slow for all the boys now in Bangkok. All bars and the boys were saying they will be open till 12 midnight. They said there were there last night till the same time. The Soi was very slow and quiet. I sat at Dick's for one hour and saw one customer go into Dream Boys. I took a Tuk Tuk back and he said he was told the 12 AM curfew is in place and he is staying out to work. Just a bit of an update from the Soi Twilight gay bar area.
