Why Gay Men Are Dumping Russian Vodka
axiom2001 reacted to TampaYankee for a topic
Why Gay Men Are Dumping Russian Vodka Alexander Abad-Santos In a gay man's life, there are few things more cherished than vodka. That's why its hugely problematic that Russia — the supposed birthplace of "the little water" — has passed one anti-gay bill after another, effectively making being gay or even telling a child that gay people exist a punishable offensive. And now, Russian vodka companies could pay the price. See the full article at: http://news.yahoo.com/why-gay-men-dumping-russian-vodka-184639931.html1 point -
The Time Hillary Was Right About Obama in 2008 Elspeth Reeve 11:01 AM ET The Atlantic Wire Some people wondered why Hillary Clinton failed to inspired voters in the 2008 presidential campaign with an explicitly cynical message. Mocking then-Sen. Barack Obama, Clinton said, "I could stand up here and say: let’s just get everybody together, let’s get unified… The sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing, and everyone will know that we should do the right thing, and the world would be perfect." Get real, she said. She'd lived through the 90s. "Maybe I’ve just lived a little long, but I have no illusions about how hard this will be. You are not going to wave a magic wand…" She did not win the Democratic nomination. But, Politico's Glenn Thrush points out, history has proved her right. Even Obama admits his speeches don't work like magic on House Republicans. Obama himself has explicitly endorsed the no-magic-wands view. "I wish I had a magic wand and could make this all happen on my own," Obama said of congressional inaction on the DREAM Act in 2011. Earlier this year, he complained, "Even though most people agree that I'm being reasonable; that most people agree I'm presenting a fair deal; the fact they don't take it means I should somehow do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what's right." I told you so, Clinton adviser James Carville says. "His message was 'I can transcend Washington' — her message was 'I can bend it, I can cut through it,'" Carville told Politico. "Guess which one turned out to be right?" Many commentators have urged Obama to show leadership by somehow transcending partisan politics. The New York Times' Maureen Dowd, for example, has pointed to the leadership shown in the movie The American President. But she's also suggested Obama could learn from the Clintons' experience in the '90s. "The Clintons have emerged stronger on the back end of their scandals," Dowd said. "America’s ultimate survivors are now truly potent or dangerous, depending on how you look at it, because Americans love them Bridget Jones-style, just the way they are, warts and all." In fact, Clinton learned so much as first lady that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid thinks she'd be able to top Bill Clinton's performance. "I think that they’re a pretty good team, but she’ll handle things probably even better than he did," Reid told PBS. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2013/08/time-hillary-was-right-about-obama-2008/67862/1 point

Adam, it is quite funny that every taxi drive I meet in Thailand that knows how to speak English talks about Bill and Hillary. They say she is going to be a great President. I agree with them. I can't wait till she gets into office and starts busting some balls.1 point

I don't think going full guns blazing into a relationship is ever a good idea. There must be more than a cute face. But, what attracts Lucky and others is not what attracts me. I like a bad boy. The badder the better. I want to be able to have someone who will protect me should I ever need it and someone who can beat the shit out of anyone who fucks with me. OK, that has not happened too often but there have been a few cases. With my current Thai boyfriend, he has been with me for 9 years. We were at a disco about 8 years back and were with a group of 4 other Thai boys and 4 or 5 ladyboys. We were all enjoying ourselves when some guys from the Middle East kept hitting on the ladyboys. The ladyboys were the lovers of the boys. They were out to have a good time together. I was tired of their constant oogling and flirtations so I put my hand on the chair beside me basically cutting them off from our table. They kept on. One of them pushed up against me to say something crude to one of the girls and I turned around and said, "Please don't push me and leave the ladies alone. They are with their dates." It was Pattaya, Thailand and the city is known for the working girls and boys but tonight, they were all off just relaxing. I turned back around to my group and in less than one minute one of the guys behind me intentionally pushed up against me again. I started to stand and turn to face them. Before I could even stand up, the BF had broken his beer bottle, made his way over 3 of our group and had the bottle on the throat of the guy behind me. When the other boys saw this, they all did the same and the group had bottles ready to cut anyone who moved. Security saw this across the vast Hollywood Disco and they were running over to the area. I told the guys that were causing trouble that they just fucked with the wrong group. I told them this was not their country and hitting on the guys girlfriends was a bad idea. I also told them to pay their bill and leave before they were in serious trouble. I told them there was no way to win this fight as the boys would win. The group of foreigners all looked around, and decided it was time to leave. They did. The boys were all ready to kill them for pushing into me so hard. Sorry, long story, but that is the kind of thing that attracts me. Two of those boys are still with me to this day. The BF and the first guy behind him with another bottle. While that may not be attraction based on looks, I think I did pretty well in picking hotties as well. Both are perfect for me. But, many of you would not find them attractive in the least. Give me a guy with a big dick, a few tattoos, a gun in his pants and a fighting spirit, and I'm in love! Give me a boring hot guy who is a great fuck but no personality, and I'll enjoy the fuck, but that is about it.1 point

As it is the case with everybody-I-can-think-of's articles. If you can find an article anywhere that's complete, balanced, and gives a full picture, I'd be grateful if you'd post a link. In the meantime, I guess we'll just have to keep reading as widely as we can and doing our own critical thinking. Or not.1 point

You missed the Baton Show Lounge. How could you? Or did I miss the listing. Miss Chilli Pepper is an instituition. And I am proud to say that on one special night I had the distinct honor of having her throw a drink in my face.1 point

At Lincoln Park Zoo, the Primate House and the restored Rookery are not to be missed. For culture, the Cloud Gate/Bean, I believe might attract more visitors than the Crown Fountain. However, anyone visiting Millenium Park needs to cross the Renzo Piano bridge to the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago. Forget about the "L" and grab the 22, 36 and 151 buses, which will take you everywhere along the Lakefront, Loop and neighborhoods mentioned in the article. The article failed to mention the Museum Campus created next to the Toilet Bowl, Field Museum of Natural History with Sue, Shedd Aquarium with their Belugas and the Adler Planetarium and SkyShow.1 point

Up to a point you make a good argument but what about self satisfaction? Can you be happy not doing your very best? Personally I trace some of this type of situation back to the Viet Nam conflict. Many colleges and universities were passing any young guy so they would not lose their education deferment and be drafted, regardless of the quality of work performed. Perhaps a reasonable result but not a good plan of action which might be having negative results even today. As you mentioned there are several jobs or careers where it does matter how well you did in school, meaning what you know. The person who graduates last in his medical school class is still called "doctor" but do you want this individual doing brain surgery on you or doing a heart transplant for you? I don't. Pilots like to think that paying attention to details is important, although I agree no one yet has asked me what grade I got on the various written examinations I have taken. They do ask if I got a "Pro" card when I went through re-current training. Best regards, RA11 point
