My only claim to fame is writing letters to various authors telling them about their factual errors regarding aviation. So far, everyone has written in reply. I suppose they "take it" more gracefully than some posters or maybe I come off differently to them vs. posters. Really I don't claim to know everything about aviation but some of it has rubbed off after all these years and thousands of hours of flying, etc. Best regards, RA12 points

Called in sick to go see The Rolling Stones. Did not realize that when I was in the parking lot pregaming, standing on top of my car drinking champagne from the bottle that a photographer from the largest newspaper in the state was taking my picture - which ran on the front page of the paper the next day. That day at work did not go over well.2 points -
A cross-dressing, meth selling priest in Connecticut, who used to go to Broadway musicals with Cardinal Timothy Egan, is in jail. He allegedly sold up to $9000 a week in meth. It was the selling to feds that seems to have stopped him. The priest also owned an adult video store that sold sex toys, many of which were discovered in the rectory. The Land of Oz sex store was supposedly used to launder the profits from the drug business. Apparently the priest had a boyfriend who lived in a house down the street. The 61-monsignor worried rectory employees with his long absences and odd-looking visitors. I'd heard something about that too, but don't believe it's medically approved yet. Maybe like all the other weight loss miracles that never actually became available... But I also heard that your fecal flora changes on it's own over time, if you work to get healthy you'll develop the flora of a skinny guy. Meanwhile:1 point

Sadly, I'm fairly sure there are no city fathers losing sleep at night over how to keep the porn industry. Maybe one or two city councilmen from the valley are indifferent at best, everybody else would prefer to never think about/deal with porn production again. Sure, *we* all know it's become a lot less seedy lately and employes a lot of people, but that doesn't change the perspective most have of it, and there are still people who regularly encourage that bad reputation. Maybe the writing's been on the wall for LA county since AIM Healthcare was driven out of business... And I can think of no place waiting with open arms for the industry to move in, either. With its porn convention(s), massive indigenous stripper and "more" population, and generally low prices/underemployment Vegas would seem the best fit. But tourists miss that the state is actually fairly conservative with a strong Mormon bent. So going big and on the books like mainstream production is in LA may quickly run into the same obstacles--or stronger. Of course many under the radar productions currently happen there, and have tainted the view of Vegas for industry workers. And while it is at least close to LA, there's little to no local production support/talent/spaces/equipment/etc. Almost everything else I've heard proposed is laughable because the city in question is far more expensive and probably already thinking they don't want porn in their town... the separately incorporated areas of LA like Pasadena, uber-conservative Orange or San Diego counties... That leaves San Fransisco or maybe West Hollywood. Both are much more expensive than the SFV (at a time porn makes less and less money the old fashioned ways). And both might have a substantial population that has a knee-jerk reaction to encourage condom use in all porn because of its importance in gay porn. There are some very poor counties around Los Angeles county where people desperately need work, Kern County, Riverside / Inland Empire, possibly parts of San Bernandino or Ventura... But most have conservative leanings and are likely to react poorly to a large above-board buildup by the adult industry in their community--if anybody in the industry wanted to live in the desolate desert. So a fractured mish-mash with different studios going different places, some trying to do it on the fly/cheap, destroying the safety and even (to us few at least) respectability that has been built up over the years seems most likely to me. Which would seem the inevitable trajectory anyway, because it's hard to imagine big-studio type porn ever being anywhere near as profitable as it once was. Who here has paid for porn in the last two years? Maybe some websites with their own content make some money, but they were never a part of the Vivid/big studio system we're wringing our hands about here... My $0.02.1 point

Mine have alas been confined to professional talks given to the likes of the Society of Automotive Engineers or the American Council of Engineering Companies or IHEEP (the International Highway Engineering Exchange Program, no less) or else webinars for the devoted readerships of Aviation Week, Off-Highway Engineering, Offshore Engineer, MIT Technology Review and similar electrifying titles. I do occasionally get quoted in WSJ, Financial Times, NYT, South China Morning Post, Fortune, Newsweek, etc. But those predictably bring in no business leads, in contrast to the dull but profitable citations in the unglamorous trade rags. (First touched the hem of greatness when, fresh out of college and working for a periodical called -- wait for it -- Industrial Water Engineering, I landed a phone interview with the CEO of reactor maker Babcock & Wilcox. Which became the highlight of that year's Boiler Feedwater Corrosion Control issue. Second in popularity with our advertisers only to the annual Sewage & Sludge Pumping number.)1 point

Which city for a weekend of sex?

I live in Europe and I'll be happy to give you guys fresh ideas once you visit Montpellier, which is one of the best cities in the world for gay vacations. An inexpensive, warm city where one third of the male population is gay - yet, no matter how often Oz and I talk about it nobody goes.1 point -
I had time today to sit down and chat with the lawyers who are representing the Free Speech Coalition. Perfect being at the right place at the right time. It was a great discussion and they told me the basis of the case as they are seeking an injunction to stop the law from taking effect. There were many points they went over but the interesting ones were that they were negotiating with the OSHA for new guidelines when all this started. They said the industry was already very strictly monitored and the new laws would require a public health inspector to be present at EVERY shooting in order to make sure the condoms were placed on appropriately etc. Needless to say, that will be costly. Also it was interesting that the group that got this pushed through spent over 6 million dollars. Amazing that a 3rd party group is so interested right? Guess what else that group has purposed? That every gay bar be required by law to give condoms to their customers. Another one, they want to close down the bathhouses and saunas in West Hollywood and if they can't get them closed, they want to have a monitor in place to make sure things are done safely. Lastly, I just happened to have access to 24 porn stars today. All of them were in the straight industry and none in gay films. But, I asked them how often they were tested for HIV. 3 of the said once per month. The other 19 said 2 times per month. It sounds to me like they are intelligent and cautious individuals. Their job does put them at more risk to get STD's than other jobs for sure but I think coal miners also have more risk for certain diseases that the majority of the population. Just an observation.1 point

I read somewhere if you want to lose weight, get poop infusions from somebody that's skinny. Seems like fat guys and skinny guys have very different populations of intestinal flora and that, at least in part, accounts for why they process food differently.1 point

my understanding is that if you tweak your FB setting so that some friends can't see other friends (unless they are mutual friends (there is no way of hiding mutual friends from each other)) then all your friends will only be able to see mutual friends. In other words, if you want to hide your "naughty" friends, all friends will be unable to see each other unless they are mutual friends. It makes things easier if you can just say to one friend, "Tom is one of my FB friends, so just find him in my profile and message him, he knows more about Brazil than I do." even if friend one and Tom aren't mutual friends. Tom, have you found another way? Because I've long wanted to friend escorts, but not if in order to make their friendship secret, I'd have to deny my friends in general from seeing each other (unless they are mutual). p.s. WOOF photos, BTW1 point

I have to think rimchair is gloats. How did you enjoy your trip in a non-existent 650 when there were none delivered yet? The 787 definitely has a vendor problem which I would like to think would be solved by using entirely or more US vendors but that seems to be not PC. Boeing will take some economic and PR hits over this but the 787 is no Comet, to quote a poster from the "other" MB. The issues are not huge and not unmanageable. They will be fixed and soon. LOT has also grounded the 787 to be up to date. Grounding just means fix it before further flight which might be today or very, very soon. The Apollo flights likely should have been grounded but then we never would have gone to the moon, would we? Airline travel is nowhere nearly as dangerous. It just is not perfect and never will be. Are you willing to drive to the mall? That is VERY dangerous, statistically speaking. Best regards, RA11 point
