I will add something to give you an idea of the range of boys here in Thailand. I refer to myself as a Butterfly. Which the boys understand means I will not become their BF and I will see other boys. Not to mean that I don't repeat because I have 1/2 dozen boys that I see over and over again. My first 7 or 8 years my trips were limited to 2 weeks - month and so I resolved I would not fall in love and have all the resulting entanglements. 10,000 miles between people is not a good recipe for success . And I did not want to be getting emails for money all the time. By the time I moved here and lived 90% of my time in Thailand , I had become pretty set in my ways and continued my Butterfly living. I no longer live here but spend 4 one month trips every year. The last 2 years I have become a great fan of GayRomeo because in Thailand any time and I do mean any time of the day there are 40-50 boys who want to come to my room. Yes 90% of them are money boys but who cares. I still go out to the Bars etc but they are only open 830pm-1am. Anyways 2 days ago I saw a new listing on GayRomeo and sent him a message. I could tell by his reply that his English might be better then most because his replies did not sound like google translates. He had been in town 4 months and worked at an Internet shop. Immediate bonus points for me . He did not come into town and take the easy way out and go work in a bar or just look for paid sex on GayRomeo. He works 830pm-830am 6 days a week for my guess about 7000 baht a month which is $250. He can survive on that by living with other boys etc but it is a hard life. I made a date with him and with great anticipation I waited for him to arrive. I just had an inkling this one could be special. No mention of money had been made by him although I will always give money even if not asked for. The amount $30-$40 is fairly meaningless to me and makes a difference in their lives. Special he was. Excellent English including idioms and everything in bed if I designed the boy myself. hehe His work shifts do not allow for as much time together as I would like but I have a feeling that my Butterfly days may be reduced somewhat because this one has potential to get my heart. He is Gay, masculine , fully versatile although I am a top only but maybe we can add another boy for him to play with. Based on the hard on he had from start to finish , I am sure he will be a great Top also. I include 1 photo for you and by the way he is 20 years old.

Being in my mid-50's now and having the blessing of being able to travel broadly from my late 30's until my early 50's, it may seem strange but I had never attended a Gay Pride Celebration. I even had a BF in Chicago during this time and never got to Chicago Gay Pride which has one of the largest Gay Pride parades in the world when we were together. Well that has finally changed this year. I was able to attend Chicago Gay Pride in June and attend the parade that had always been on my to do list. I must admit I did feel much pride as I noted the politicans, Local TV coverage and local celebraties in the parade. The major corporations (even Walmart) as sponsors or having floats in the parade. My pride came from realizing how far we as Gay people have progressed from the time of my youth until today. I also found that pride lost upon my younger 20 something companions who could not seem to appreciate anything beyond the Party aspect of our trip. I found myself, as one who has always loved history anyway, lecturing them with stories of Gay History such as NYC's Stonewall Riots, and how 30 years ago it was common to be arrested for just entering a Gay Bar in our own city. Sure they still see some Gay bias and discrimination but their starting point in their view is so far down the scale of the past. Atlanta has changed their Gay Pride Celebration to the fall, this coming weekend, and again my 20 something companions will travel with me to my second Pride event. One has even been asked to march in Sunday's Parade. So as I again feel a great sense of pride at attending the South's Gay Celebration, an area were Gay Sex was still illegal just a decade or so ago, my friends will have to put up with my lectures again. This as I put up with their all night parting,hang-overs and stories of the hot guys they chased all weekend and maybe the couple of guys they actually caught. LOL.

Today is a national holiday to Brazil's patron saint. Nossa Senhora/Our Lady of Aparecida. Brasil has built the second largest basilica in the world to it's patron saint holding 45000 worshipers. That is the reason Centro is empty. Most everyone took off from work early yesterday for a near 4-day weekend. Keep in mind for everyone that the area around Meio Mundo is very safe. With the activities until 9 and 10 at night at BancoBrasilCC, Universidade Candido Mendes, Fundacao Getulio Vargas, Seguros Souza Cruz and ElectroBras directly across from the sauna the area stays very busy EXCEPT on holidays and Saturdays. Ditto with tons of bars and restaurants on the Ruas Mercado, Comercio, Ouvidor and Rosario.

It's 10.12.12. I've just made arrangements to do this same trip next May 2013, for almost a month. :smile:

Yes, you DEFINITELY "will have to come back again." I do not know your interests, but I hope they go beyond the saunas. I wrote a long message here below yours before I read your last three sentences. Decided to delete and write here. [brasil is MORE THAN its hot men, but if that is all that you prefer, then who am I to make alternative suggestions? I've been accused of being a "sexual tourist," which is far from the case, and can cite guides for travelers beyond the sauna scene. I've written at TripAdvisor as well as at Fordors and Formmers in there particular guides, but I mentioned nothing about the saunas. - Hope your trip was adventurous as well as enlightening. I might return to Brasil in 2013 with friends, my 9th trip since 2002.

Friday, cloudy all morning and raining around 2pm. Found a restaurant run by Asian people close by Gloria metro, noodles fried with shrimp + a beer costs 14R. Much better than the stake and fries dinner to my taste. Food actually is comparable with São Paulo, if comparing street corner shops. But SP praca republica area has more choices. Went to MM again around 5:30 hoping Lukas will be there tonight. Funny thing with MM and logoa for new visitors, to orient yourself out of metro, just look out for big church and walk in that direction While MM is right by a well lit major ave in centro, feel perfectly safe during weekdays as there are tons of street vendors and customers. Today is a holiday here and it's mostly deserted. No street vendors, dark and rainy, a few homeless people here and there. They are not bothering people at all, but I made a note to myself to make a short stay tonight. Not very busy inside, they are having a sort of party tonight. A quick walk around, disappointed Lukas is still not there. Quite a few new boys tonight, a couple with cute boyish faces. Before heading to 117 last night, we had a very nice lunch at a "por quilo" for 2Reais/100grams -including churrasco of alcatara, fraldinha, filet with garlic, beef/chicken sausages and chicken hearts. I think when it comes to restaurants in Rio de Janeiro, you really need to know where to go or for a foreigner, how to order. A bit difficult without knowledge of the language. Restaurants almost always have pratos executivo or feito. For 10Reais or less usually. Besides many with a full galeto special. Right now for around 17-19. Depends what one is looking for. You can also easily find fancier por quilos with prices in the 4.50-5.50/100gram range. I've posted here before that in my opinion, the best cheap meal in Rio is the full kafta meal as Rotiseria Sirio-Libanesa on the Largo do Machado either before or after a visit to 117. And around the corner is authentic, pure acai at a lanche that only features products from Para.
