I'm trying to pick apart whether they just seem safer (which certainly they do to me too...) or if they really are safer. Certainly they are safer with regard to what various possessions you might have in a hotel or airbnb. But as far as your personal safety, immeasurably more valuable. That's something that they wouldn't leave until they were sure you were ok. I wonder what would happen after many hours, a shift change etc. and James was nowhere to be found if they would hold him there. I'm curious how James's assailants dragged him passed reception, out onto the street and into a car. One of the few motels I've been to in Costa Rica had the garage attached to the room (for discretion); a kidnapping couldn't have been easier. In some ways, rather than a motel, it seems a cheap hotel at which you are not staying (with paper thin walls) would be a better choice. On a long layover in Bogota (on my way to Brazil, I confess...) I met 2 guys (separately) at a hotel within walking distance of the airport (Estadio El Dorado, 130k cop for 4 people). ALthough it was early afternoon and few guests were in the hotel, I would think that in the evening the small room with shared bathroom would either inhibit violence or quickly reveal it. (Granted it would also reveal any moans of pleasure so perhaps the shy or inhibited may not like the idea....) Just an idea... -
I am not that familiar with this particular incident, but something certainly seems off about his defense. If the effect of the magic mushrooms had worn off within 10 hours, his explanation about dreaming is indefensible. The fact he now admits he is alcoholic is even more scary, as you have said. To think of all the hours he was in the cockpit while under the influence...what did his co-workers know and what did they hide about his addiction. Seems like a substantial jail sentence is definitely warranted in this case from my perspective. -

The GLP-1 injections (e.g. ozempic) passed into a tighter category earlier in the year; before that, I would get them without a prescription (and later I had an American prescription but it attracted little interest). -
Having visited China many dozens of times, I do not agree at all with @KeepItReal's comments. There are plenty of places for gay men to meet up and the apps can be humming, even for older western guys. -
Waiting for @Olddaddy to open his 'different' bar, no doubt. How often did we hear that in the old days of Soi Twight!
